New official data regarding Jules's accident.

He hit the tractor head-on with an impact force of 254G (!) while the car itself absorbed 60G. Jules lost control of the car at 124 miles mph, and by the time he hit the tractor, his speed had reached 78 miles mph. At the moment of impact, the force exerted on Jules's brain was roughly equivalent to 381kg (due to that 254G force).Link.That kind of impact killed him instantly; there is just no surviving something like that. Technically, he was in a coma for nine months—what remained of his brain function was barely being sustained by machines just to keep Jules breathing and his heart beating regularly.
On Friday, July 17th, his brain could no longer sustain even those basic functions, marking the definitive end. If he had stayed in that state any longer, his body would have started to fail completely.
My God, no matter how safe NASCAR becomes, it just can't account for these rare, freak accidents. I really hope seeing a Safety Car deployed marks the end of tragedies like this.

So why put on that nine-month charade? Was it all for Bernie? Just to protect the money? Is there even a logical answer to that question?

No.

Dammit, he just had the misfortune of taking a direct hit to the head from the barrier. If that wall had been even slightly higher, the rollbar might have caught him instead, or if it were lower, he might have taken it on the nose of the car... given the luck he had, Danica Patrick would be racing in NASCAR today.

The family was holding onto hope for a recovery. For a moment, there was even a glimmer of it when Jules took his first breath on his own. But we all knew deep down that more wasn't coming. He was never going to wake up. 😢

Hmm... it’s a bit like how they could have kept Ayrton Senna or Roland Ratzenberger on life support for weeks before officially calling it.
All in all, it feels strange to me that they didn't declare him gone sooner, regardless of those small signs of life...
If the reports are true and he took a 254G impact to the head, then any sign of breathing isn't a sign of recovery—it's just biology. As you pointed out, he would have been gone instantly. The fact that it wasn't reported that way feels like pure damage control.

It makes you wonder, too, how much of the truth we really know about someone like Michael Schumacher. You see what I mean?

And honestly, I’ve still got him right there on my avatar, unlike those people who just scrubbed him away immediately—because Jules shouldn't be forgotten, period.

I mean, I’ve got him as my profile picture on Facebook, and honestly, I don't even have a photo of myself up there. So then you get all these XYZ people hitting me up like, "Who is that guy?" It makes me want to sit them down and give them a whole lecture... 😬
