Maybe if they just repeated last year's lineup

Too true... That was basically the only reason anyone showed up..😁
I’m feeling pretty skeptical now, but I guess I'll hold out hope until they finally drop the full lineup...

Seriously, how have I never heard of New Young Pony Club? Has someone been keeping them hidden from me or what?? 😁
I'm actually asking because if anyone knows anything about them, please let me know—I can't face diving into their whole discography all at once right now! 😳

I totally agree that this lineup is easily the best one yet. I mean, The Flaming Lips, Massive Attack, and Broken Social Scene are easily in my top 30 favorite bands of all time ^^ plus I love Caribou and !!! will definitely crush it again. Honestly, having been to this festival before, I don't even know what parallel universe previous lineups were living in to think they could compete with this! In the past, the only names with this kind of massive scale and quality were Kraftwerk and Sonic Youth, but hey, I won't keep rambling—just know I'm stoked! 😍 And I bet there’s going to be a million people there again. I hope it's easier for you guys when you arrive and have to explain to everyone that, musically speaking, the previous lineups were total garbage to us "unrefined" music lovers. It might even be easier if you just look back at the lineups from before 2009. 🙄

Oh, and The Stooges were on there too, but they aren't really my thing 😳. I've caught them live a few times, and while Mike Watt is obviously incredible 😁, I've never actually sat through a full set of theirs. 😬

Should I be laughing or crying at this?...😂☕

There’s honestly quite a bit of electronic music on here 🙂
Now I'm just waiting on The Black Keys on the 22nd and then The Crooked Vultures on June 23rd, and then life will be good 😉

🙄

To me, this year's lineup feels pretty much the same as the ones before... It’s all got plenty of solid, great bands, sure, but last year they had Kraftwerk (and let's be real, it's hard to find anything that grabs my attention more than them), and back in '06, it was Morrissey. 😁 It's a similar vibe to when Sonic Youth played, though I didn't make it out that year. 😳 My absolute worst experience was that year when Nick Cave was on the bill...

You’re being a bit narrow-minded now. What about Nick Cave, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, New York Dolls, Happy Mondays, Stereo MC's, The Prodigy, Asian Dub Foundation, or Moby? They’re all just as massive, if not more so, than The Flaming Lips. And as for discussing musical "quality"... let's not go there. I think everyone has finally realized that "quality music" is usually just code for "music I happen to like."🙄

Okay, let's not even get into the quality debate, but aside from The Prodigy (I mean, come on, is anyone actually going to argue they were on the same level as Nick Cave or Franz Ferdinand before that Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival?? 😠 :-), everyone else after Franz Ferdinand seems way smaller to me than The Flaming Lips. But hey, that's just my take! (And don't get me wrong, I love some of them—like the New York Dolls—and I still think it was such a shame they overlapped with Sonic Youth 😢 )
+I always forget that the festival used to be held in Split too! 😬

I'm not sure how you'd measure this precisely, but I just remembered we could look at Last.fm stats, sorted by listener count:
The Flaming Lips
27,521,220 plays (1,047,474 listeners)
Asian Dub Foundation
4,900,927 plays (283,646 listeners)
Stereo MC's
1,724,961 plays (224,521 listeners)
New York Dolls
1,903,238 plays (196,666 listeners)
Happy Mondays
2,015,109 plays (191,127 listeners)

I totally blanked on Moby, I have to admit! 😳

I know Last.fm isn't the perfect snapshot of the population, especially here in America, but if you want to estimate who's actually showing up to a concert, it's a much better gauge than Facebook, right? 😁

I honestly think the Coachella Stage was the best part, even without any world music acts on it👋

Adam Moore said:Honestly, I’ve gotta say it: the Coachella Stage is at its absolute peak when they ditch those whole "world music" acts entirely. It just works better that way. 👋

I was honestly banking on seeing some truly wild, interesting music at the festival—you know, something with that gritty, high-energy edge like Gogol Bordello or maybe even some Rundek if he ever made his way over here. Just something with a bit more soul and chaos than the usual radio hits.

Honestly, the rest of this lineup is just total filler. I only pulled the trigger on a ticket because Rise Against and Flogging Molly are playing, and that’s about it. Now, I’d absolutely love to catch Massive Attack if they show up, and hopefully, whatever is happening over at the Coachella Stage won't be a complete disaster—fingers crossed, anyway. 🙂 )

I haven't really sat down to listen to most of the other bands on this list, to be honest, but when I take a quick peek at their stats on Last.fm, it looks like they’re just some big, messy cocktail of electronic, indie rock, alternative, dance, disco, and punk. 🤣 If anyone’s actually looking for something, here you go—don't all rush at once.

Man, if they hit me with one more massive headliner like that, I’m going to lose it—I am absolutely stoked! It honestly becomes a bit of a problem when the lineup gets too stacked, though, because you end up with way too many acts you actually want to see, and before you know it, you're just standing there stressed out, wondering how on earth you're supposed to catch everyone without missing half the damn show. 😂

This lineup is a total joke. If The Flaming Lips and Massive Attack weren't on there, I wouldn't even bother going.

It looks to me like the alternative scene in the US is about to implode from all the posers. 🤷 People have become just like those San Francisco new-age types driving hybrid cars and sniffing their own farts out of wine glasses ( kind of like South Park, right?).

There’s just something about those high-strung guitar fascists and their loud, obnoxious concert energy that I absolutely live for...😍

I’m absolutely glued to the Budweiser stage 😁 at least I won't have any overlapping sets to worry about
Every single year, the lineup is going to be a hit for some people and a total miss for others—that's just how the music industry rolls, isn't it? You can't please everyone, and frankly, I don't think anyone can. Personally, I feel like I've run out of things to complain about this year. This lineup is actually incredible ^^

I hope that wasn't directed at me. I'm a hipster. 🙂

Didn't realize there was a rule against having an opinion. This year's lineup is packed with garbage. At least in my view. 🤷 I don't like it.

That’s all you get from an "annoyed guitar fascist and a tin can." ☕

Faking Fatboy Slim in Monterey... what a joke—honestly, it’s a damn shame they didn't book him for the T-Mobile set 😁
