Look, I wasn't saying they were bad or anything. It's just... maybe they would've worked better in a smaller venue? I don't know. Honestly, it might have just been the sound quality coming from the other stage, which I really couldn't stand.

Does anyone happen to have a recording of the Crips and Marakeesh?

Man, I didn't even mean that you knew he'd already played three times before the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, or that he's coming back this fall...🤷

Alright, let's go through this step by step, day two...

Pitchfork - I listened to one of their albums a few years back, and honestly, nothing really stuck with me... it felt pretty much the same way about this set. The first track was definitely the highlight (someone please remind me which one it was). There were moments where it sounded really cool and polished, but then the sax just kind of breaks the vibe :) It’s still daytime and the sun is out, giving off such a positive energy... but then I realized my attention span starts slipping halfway through every song :/ The vocalist reminds me a bit of the guy from Band of Horses.😬

Caribou - ******** 🙏 🙏 🙏
They used to play outdoor shows before, and it wasn't shoulder-to-shoulder crowded like those sets in Seattle; you actually had space to dance. The lighting really added to the whole experience, there was a nice little breeze here and there, and then that sun hits you... 😵 pure trance. That's just what Caribou does—they pull people into a trance. For me, it was 😍 the best performance, strictly looking at the quality from the very start to the end of the set.👍

I only caught the last few bits of The Flaming Lips... nothing special... I've listened to their album a few times and it never really clicked for me, idk. All that nonsense with the balloons and the hands—fine, it looked decent enough... but when I hear all these stories about hippie nonsense : rigo:
Caribou > The Flaming Lips
We're talking about music, right? If you stripped away all that colorful spectacle, would it even be that great? :/

New Young Pony Club - At first, I couldn't wrap my head around how this was supposed to be a reincarnation of Indietracks on a stage. And like Charles James9 said, why do they force us to shout "yeah!" and "make some noise" and all that stuff? *No thanks, I'm not into being forced.
But then, they either leveled up or just relaxed, started playing tracks from their old album—which still somehow can't touch the first one—and something just clicked The most fun, most danceable set of the bunch. Total chaos and jumping around in the front rows.👋

Massive Attack - Same as The Flaming Lips, I think I only heard the last twenty minutes. But man, what I did hear :S such powerful sound. 😲 Hats off to them. But coming straight after NYPC, that melancholy hit me pretty hard. You really need to listen to them in a quiet setting... though I'm sure they'll be back... it's not like it's their first time.🙂

Pitchfork—I listened to one of their albums a few years back and nothing really stuck. This set was pretty much the same deal. The first track was the best part (someone tell me which one that was). It sounded cool at times, they have a good sound, but then that sax player just totally kills the vibe :)

Like I said, it's basically the American version of Guster 😁 The only bummer is that back then, Guster was actually touring, so there wasn't really any way to avoid them 😁

here is my report.

I really liked the coverage on The Flaming Lips. 👍
Personally, I was totally let down by that whole anti-Bush rant they pulled. Why does it have to be like that? You have one of the most original, incredible performances ever, just pure positive vibes being sent to the crowd, and then they have to wrap it up in something so pathetic and cheap. 🤮 And where did they even get the idea that everyone in the crowd shares those shallow political views? (That’s just a rhetorical question, obviously). You want to believe in the magic and the power of music, but when you see how many people act like mindless sheep or fanatics, the whole thing feels like a soap bubble ready to burst. It's honestly kind of gross.

P.S.: Also, why on earth did it smell so much like urine right in front of the stage? 😕

Pitchfork 👍 👍

The Flaming Lips 👍

Flogging Molly 🙏 🙏 🙏 😍

I don't really have the energy to get into all the nitty-gritty details right now—honestly, I haven't caught a wink of sleep since yesterday morning. 🤣

The smell of urine was even stronger near the stages, mixed with some kind of decay where the mud was.
It rained for a few days, then you had all the human trash—food scraps, spilled beer, whatever—all getting trampled. Add some intense sun and heat to that mix, let it sit and fester for a few days, and you've got a recipe for disaster.
And oh boy! By the last day, you're basically pulling a tray out of an oven. You get this massive stench from the semi-solidified sludge of bacteria and micro-organisms. 👍
Baked filth. Bon appétit!

lol. I just realized that this guy from Pitchfork was actually in the video, and he ended up waiting behind me in line for like 45 minutes for pancakes. He actually managed to talk me into just grabbing two so we could both get through the line faster 🙂

feraltrucker5 said:Don't give me that crap like you were actually at that show instead of seeing Against!😲 🙂

Against absolutely crushed it. 🙏 🙏 👍 The band was high-energy, the crowd was losing their minds, and there was a massive circle pit right in the middle of the mud. 🙂 :punk:

Yeah, that was probably the most expensive ticket I've dropped in the last decade, goddammit... 😠

Even though anything following them is bound to sound mediocre by comparison, I’m still honestly shocked by how much noise people can jam into their ears and how they all call this high class music. 🙂 😁

Sorry, but I just can't bring myself to say the new stuff is equal to or better than the old stuff. :/
Well, you technically can, because that's your call image
I don't know. For me, the new material keeps getting better, even if it doesn't hit quite as hard on the very first listen as that debut album did. ☕

🤣

Even though everything they play sounds terrible to me after a while, I’m still genuinely shocked by how much garbage people can cram into their ears and somehow pass off as high class. 🙂 😁

The thing is, you haven't even heard the worst of it yet. 😬

idk, the new stuff is growing on me, but it doesn't hit quite as hard as the first album on the very first listen ☕

Chaos is actually great on the new record! Most of it actually clicked for me live during the first set. That one unusually mellow track was pretty solid too. Hmda, they're a good band image

No way. It literally cannot get any worse than e-cigarettes being peddled under the guise of being "alternative." It just can't. 😁

I don't know, I guess... to me, the new material keeps getting better and better, though it doesn't quite hit that same level as the first time you sit down and listen to the classics ☕

🤷 I think I finally get what you meant—that mental click hits you just like a microwave. I’m not entirely sure what you were trying to get at there, though?*
