What's the best Final Destination movie? (2000-2011)

As for my top "FD" picks, I went with the first one and the fifth. My reasons: 1. It completely reinvented the genre by introducing a concept we hadn't seen before—the premise itself is just brilliant. 👍 I’ll admit, certain scenes actually gave me a physical jolt—it’s the only entry that truly rattled me (not to mention that excellent, chilly and creepy soundtrack); the others leaned much more heavily on pure gore. Even so, the death sequences in the subsequent films always left me 😲. I mean, what kind of twisted mind comes up with that? Not in a bad way, obviously—haha—but you have to admire the creativity required. 😬 🙏 Plus, the original has this uniquely dark, brooding atmosphere that feels distinct.

I almost included the second one because it’s fantastic too, but since the poll limits us to two, I stuck with the fifth. That highway pile-up is such a great sequence—pure adrenaline. And it works so well as a direct follow-up to the first.

The third one is alright—solid enough. The accident on the roller coaster was also very well executed.

The fourth one is actually my weakest pick, even though it's the only one I saw in theaters. I wouldn't call it bad, per se—more of a guilty pleasure given how much I love the "FD" franchise.

The fifth really blew me away, primarily because of that plot twist at the end. It turns out it’s effectively a prequel to the original. 😲 🙏 I should have realized something was off when Sam and Molly were boarding that plane. Once we see Alex and the rest of the group getting kicked off/exiting the aircraft, I was just 😲. Of course, the bridge collapse scene was genius again, even if the CGI looked a little cheap when that metal rod goes through the guy's eye. 😛 But still... the soundtrack is killer here too, especially the opening and closing themes.

All in all, I absolutely love this franchise.

I truly didn't see that twist coming in the fifth installment when I watched it for the first time, but you know how I am—I started sensing something was off while I was watching. 😁 Specifically, something felt genuinely weird: in almost every single modern film, whenever characters are on their phones, they're using iPhone's, Samsung Galaxy devices, or similar touchscreen novelties—and usually, those phones represent the absolute cutting edge of technology for that film's setting. So, in the fifth movie, I found it bizarre that there was zero sign of that; when someone actually used a phone, they looked like an old lady. I found myself wondering what on earth they were even using those handsets for, but I pushed the thought aside to focus on the movie. Then, lo and behold... it turns out we're looking at the year 2000 😁

Seriously? I didn't really pay attention to that since I hadn't read any spoilers and wasn't expecting a twist like that. 🙏 Well, now I'm definitely going to rewatch it. Do you happen to remember exactly which scene it was?

The guy with glasses who ends up in that Chinese sauna right before that old woman starts messing with him during the massage 😁—in that specific scene, he’s using one of those old-school flip phones, you know, the kind that feels totally dated even then... 😁 And then, right when Death makes its move, the phone starts vibrating, and they give you this full-on product shot of the device 🙂

Man, I’ve officially dived headfirst into this franchise! Honestly, the whole concept just hooked me immediately, and I ended up powering through the first movie all by myself tonight. I was totally ready to jump straight into the second one, but man, exhaustion finally caught up with me... so I'm gonna pick up right where I left off tonight.

Honestly, who knows how much truth there is to that—it sounds a bit far-fetched to me. This is actually the first I’ve heard about any potential sequels. 🤷

The first one is clearly the best. Someone already pointed out it has a cool soundtrack, plus the atmosphere is unmatched. Honestly, parts 2 and 3 were decent enough, but those last two? Total garbage.

I hope the mods don't give me grief for reviving this thread again; I just rewatched the first one and the fifth one yesterday—the first one for maybe the tenth time now, and the fifth for the third—and look, I'm just saying... I'm definitely a fan of this franchise.

The first one is easily my favorite.

The second one is alright—mostly just because Ali Larter was in it. Honestly, kind of sucks they killed her off since she actually made it out alive in the first movie.

Third one's fine too.

As for the fourth and fifth... they're watchable, I guess. The fifth is better than the fourth.

The first one is definitely the best. I can still remember the first time I sat down to watch it. I don't know the exact year—it’s been at least a decade by now—but I was just bored, there was nothing on TV, and I wasn't really feeling this either. But then, the whole plane sequence started getting interesting. Watching the panic set in right before the plane explodes... man, it was such a "wow" moment. I honestly had no idea what I was getting into. After the explosion, I wasn't expecting a movie like this at all; I kind of thought it was going to be some standard drama. But as the plot unfolded, it just kept getting more intense. That's how I stumbled upon a completely new genre that I hadn't really explored before. 😁

The first one was the gold standard. The second? Just a bigger budget version of the first. You might get some value out of the third, but honestly, I can't even remember the recent ones anymore. Complete waste of time.

I’m with you on that. I can get through the second and third ones, but I recently sat down to watch 4. The Final Destination and man, it was just bad. The actors' reactions to all the tragic stuff happening around them are almost non-existent. There's zero emotion, no real response—it's like everything going down is just totally normal to them. Every single death is brutal in its own way, I'll give them that; they definitely put effort into the gore. But for me, it felt way too over the top. In the first movie, there was actual feeling; the actors' reactions when that plane explodes are great. The lead actor looks genuinely terrified, constantly sweating and shaken by every vision he has. In the fourth one, though? Nothing. The cast is just completely cold-blooded. That's why I think that movie fails.
