It depends on which GPU you're running... I doubt everything will just fail at once...

I think the first one will happen this month. I saw some talk about it online.

According to Wikipedia, the HD 6750 and HD 6770 are coming out tomorrow. 😉

Great 😁 I'm really looking forward to seeing the reviews.

But honestly, the whole thing feels a bit off. There’s talk about rebranding the 57xx series into this lower tier, which would mean the 6850 and 6870 actually perform worse than the old 58xx cards. Apparently, we won't see the true high-end stuff until the 69xx series finally drops.

Expect some rebranding, new chips, and all sorts of shuffling around... basically, they'll turn a 5750 into a 6850 just to mess with people who don't follow hardware closely, while a 5770 might just become a 6770 with a tiny performance bump, ofc...
but we won't really know anything until the cards actually hit the shelves and the reviews and those lame little benchmarks start dropping. 👍

You mean 5770 to 6870. 😉

Nah, I was thinking 5770 > 6770, but some sites say one thing and others say 6870..
I mean, you see all kinds of nonsense on these forums... I was just using that as an example of how messy everything gets...

Best to just wait and see. Everything else is just people talking out of their asses on the internet...

Let’s be honest—it’s all just guesswork at this point.
Right now, we're basically operating on assumptions—like how the high-end tier (which used to be the 58*0 series) is supposedly shifting toward the 69*0 range. Or how the 68*0 is meant to be the successor to the 57*0 line... and so on.
My logic is pretty simple: if the 6870 eventually drops in price—once that initial "early adopter" premium fades away—and lands somewhere near what the 5770 costs, while actually delivering specs that sit right between the 5850 and the 5870... then I'll finally know exactly which card is going to replace my aging 4850. 🙂

So, word on the street is that the high-end tier—you know, like the old 58*0 models—is shifting to the 69*0 series now. And apparently, the 68*0 is just taking over for the 57*0 line? Or something like that.
If that 6870 finally drops down to the level of a 5770—but packs the specs of a 5850 or 5870—then I know exactly what's finally replacing my ancient 4850. 🙂

Maybe we should actually learn a thing or two about these cartridges? Specifically the 6850 and 6870 models.
Click.

Austin Rodriguez41...
So the 5770 and 5750 didn't exactly transform into 6870s and 6850s? Really? 👍

I was just catching up on some deep-dive reviews over at Bit-Tech—really interesting stuff. I guess we’ll just have to wait until they finally hit the shelves here in the States and the market prices settle down a bit a little more. 🙂

Based on these benchmarks, it looks like the HD6850 might land right next to the GeForce GTX 460 768, while the 6870 will probably edge out the 5850. I expect pricing to follow that same hierarchy. Honestly? I think I’ll just skip this entire generation. My 4890 still holds its own, and the jump here doesn't seem worth the headache—especially since we all know the 69xx series is going to cost an absolute fortune once it hits the shelves.

Honestly? I think I’ll just skip this whole generation. My 4890 is still holding its own, and there's no way the jump is big enough to justify the massive price tag they'll slap on the 69xx series.

No point in upgrading..
Don't overthink it... my 4890 still handles everything easily. Sure, these new cards are better, but not "pay double the money" better...

I've got a 5770 and I'm sticking with it for a long time...
And when I finally do decide to upgrade? I'll just toss in another 5770 and call it a day. 👍

Things will shift once I hit around the $1,000 mark—$500I might actually see double the performance at that point, but I'll be waiting a long time for that to happen. 😁

9990 😬

I honestly think a 6990 could give it a run for its money. Not quite double, but pretty close 👍

In maybe a month or two, once the prices for the HD6850 and the GTX 460 finally settle down, picking up a pair of cards for CF or SLI would be an absolute steal for anyone rocking a decent motherboard paired with an i5 or an i7 processor...

but with those old x4 B50 processors?😛
we're basically smelling smoke here.😁

If you don't have the budget for a top-tier processor, then honestly, there’s absolutely no point in even looking at dual GPUs... 😛 I'm just kidding, of course, though I suppose what I really mean is that if you're lacking raw horsepower, you won't see much of a benefit from jumping into SLI or Crossfire anyway...

Just wait until I hit the jackpot and grab an Intel chip. 🤣

Haha, you’ve got a point there, I definitely don't have two separate monitors just dedicated to the CPU, though I know plenty of folks out there who absolutely do... 😁

But then again, you see these people dropping $1,500 on a high-end rig, only to stare at a tiny 19-inch TN panel for $300... it just doesn't make any sense, really... 😁

And look, I don't want this whole thread to turn into a complete mess of off-topic chatter, so here is a quick image for you all to check out. 🙂

* GeForce GTX 460 768MB - $169.99
