crimsonstag84 said:From what I can gather, the HD 6750 and 6770 were released back in January specifically for the OEM market, and they seem to be little more than rebranded versions of the HD 5750 and 5770; essentially, they offer identical performance, though perhaps there is some marginal improvement in power consumption and thermal management 😉

The HD 6850 is definitely the better path forward 👍

If my memory serves me correctly, the HD67xx series actually boasts higher bandwidth than the 57xx line, complemented by a 256-bit bus.

However, judging by this article from CNET: http://www.hardwarebase.net/vijesti/...u-oem-kanalima it looks like they won't be hitting retail shelves anytime soon. As for the OEM versions, they have been available for quite some time now, I believe.

Guess I'm passing on that then 😬
The HD6850 was my first choice too. I honestly melt a little whenever I see one with just a single 6-pin connector 😍
But I'm kind of itching to upgrade. How big would the price gap actually be for a used one? Mine has a Musashi, obviously 😁

I remember being quite taken with the 6850 myself back in the day. I still find myself getting a bit worked up whenever I see one running on just a single 6-pin connector 😍
Still, the idea of upgrading is nagging at me. I can't help but wonder how much of a difference it would actually make if I picked up a used unit? Mine features a Musashi, naturally 😁

You could certainly expect to get at least $300 for yours, though I highly doubt that having Musashi will drive the price up significantly, considering there's an HD4890 listed on Craigslist with it for roughly $300 😁

What's the verdict on the ATI Radeon HD5770, 1GB? I'm looking at it for newer games.

I reckon it should hold up okay... what do you guys think?

In my opinion, it should perform well enough. What is your take on this?

What are the rest of your specs?

Alright, my rig finally showed up. Here’s the breakdown of what I'm working with:😁

AMD Dual Core 945 Processor, 3.5 GB Memory, ATI Radeon HD 5700, 500W Power Supply
980 GB SATA
Is this any good?

Jose Ruiz2 As Bryan Evans77 once remarked:
My computer finally arrived today. I suppose I should sit down and provide you all with a detailed breakdown of exactly what I’ve managed to acquire.😁

I am currently looking at an AMD Athlon X2 945 Processor paired with 3.5 GB of Memory, an ATI Radeon HD 5700, and a 500W power supply.
I find myself staring at this 980 GB SATA drive, contemplating the sheer transience of modern storage. It sits there, a silent monolith of silicon and spinning platters, promising nearly a terabyte of space, yet I cannot help but feel a sense of impending obsolescence. I remember back when we were struggling to squeeze even forty gigabytes out of those clunky old drives, feeling like kings of the digital realm, only to realize how quickly that perceived abundance becomes nothing more than a relic of a bygone era. One wonders if we are simply building ever larger digital graveyards.
I find myself wondering if this is actually a sound decision, or perhaps just another fleeting moment of misplaced optimism.

The Processor is actually quite decent.

The memory capacity seems sufficient—though I can't quite wrap my head around what genius decided that exactly 3.5GB was the magic number to aim for, but I suppose it serves its purpose well enough.

I have a 1TB hard drive sitting here, though I can't for the life of me recall which manufacturer produced it or even what specific model it is—let’s just assume it’s decent enough to get the job done.

I would estimate there is perhaps a thirty percent chance that we are dealing with a substandard power supply unit here—though, to be perfectly honest, I haven't the slightest clue which manufacturer or specific model is actually sitting inside that chassis.

Graphics card—here we go again. For the umpteenth time, we are left guessing at the actual model because "57xx" refers to an entire series of cards rather than a specific unit. If my memory serves me correctly, you’re likely holding an ATI Radeon HD5770, which, quite frankly, is nothing more than mediocre.

If you truly want an accurate assessment, I suggest you download Speccy, CPU-Z, or Everest and provide us with the specific technical data from those tools. Without the hard numbers, any attempt at a precise evaluation would be nothing more than mere guesswork. 👍

Alright, I'm about to download this... just gotta check with the guy who set up my PC first. He mentioned that running Windows XP on this machine might be a bit weak. He thinks I’d be better off switching to Windows 7, or if sticking with XP is actually fine enough.🤷

Jose Ruiz2 said:I am just about to begin the download. Before I pull the trigger, however, I need to consult with the technician who handled my previous installations. He suggested that running Windows XP on this particular machine might be a bit underwhelming—essentially leaving far too much performance on the table. I find myself wondering if he’s right; would it have been more prudent to opt for Windows 7 from the start, or is there still some practical value in sticking with XP?🤷

It is simply impossible for Windows XP to be considered "too weak" for any modern computer. I recall sitting in my home office back in the early 2000s, watching hardware evolve at a dizzying pace, and it became clear then that the software's requirements were practically negligible compared to the sheer brute force of even mid-range machines at the time. To suggest that such a lightweight operating system could struggle to run on contemporary hardware is, quite frankly, an absurdity that ignores the fundamental reality of how computing resources have scaled over the decades.
What he was attempting to convey is that this particular configuration possesses more than enough horsepower to handle Windows 7, which, in my estimation, is a far more robust and sophisticated operating system than the aging XP. 😉

I find myself in agreement with his suggestion; it would be wise to simply move over to Windows 7.

The drive's solid (that 7200.12 series), 4GB of RAM at 1333 MHz with great latencies (888-24), motherboard's fine, processor is good... actually, it's pretty beefy. You can still squeeze a lot out of that rig. As for the GPU, we're still a bit in the dark since it's from the 5770 line—could be an HD 5770 or an HD 5750, though you mentioned it's an HD 5770

Bottom line? For your resolution (1152x864), any card from that series will do just fine 🙂
I'm running the exact same card at twice your resolution 👍

Everything looks alright... just enjoy the gaming while you can, simple as that

Not sure what you're looking for from us here. A stamp of approval saying everything's okay? 😁 (You know what they say: no use crying over spilled milk 😬—same deal here) 👍

The PC is solid enough.. now I just have to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows 7 because this XP setup is total garbage.

Look, you clearly don't know 😁

And hey, install Windows 7 64-bit if you actually want it to recognize all 4GB of RAM...

Just one more thing: could I actually run GTA IV and Crysis on this rig at max settings?🤷

So, I'm looking into getting a new graphics card. Something that actually lasts, you know? I’m planning on dropping it into a brand-new rig I’ll probably be building this summer.
Ideally, I was thinking maybe something with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.

My power supply is sitting around 400W.
Budget-wise, I want to stay under about one $500 more or less.
