stormywolf39 said:It's fine, but tell me what specs you're running. I have a feeling you could get this done for half the price.

I've got an AMD Phenom ii X3 710 2.6 GHz ATI Radeon HD 4600 512 mb
but I'm picking up a Radeon HD 5770 1GB very soon.
Running a Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 FA motherboard with 2GB of DDR2 RAM and some random 420W power supply.

In that case, you really don't need anything more powerful than that EVGA unit > suggested earlier. Even if you threw a Radeon HD 5770 into the mix, that entire configuration wouldn't even come close to pulling 400W...
I'd say take the money you'd save by not overspending on a massive Cooler Master cooler and put it toward a better graphics card when you finally go shopping...

Alright, here’s my current setup: http://img208.imageshack.us/f/97146839.png/

So, can I actually upgrade the GPU? Is this card even compatible with what I've got: the ATI Radeon HD 6870

@Jose Ruiz2/">@@Jose Ruiz2: It should work just fine—the machine is plenty powerful enough for that task, provided you’re running a solid 400 W power supply or better.

My power supply is a Cooler Master 460 W... honestly, it's nothing special.🙄

It’s certainly nothing groundbreaking, but honestly—I don't think you'll run into any real trouble with this setup 🙂

So, what kind of GPU should I grab from Newegg for the absolute $167 most bang for my buck
?

What kind of power supply and CPU are you running? Also, what resolution are you playing at?

Isn't the Palitov 450 Sonic a tiny bit better... maybe?

I think you’ve got a point there...

I kept telling myself the GeForce GTS 450 was supposed to sit just below the Radeon HD 5770 in the hierarchy—you know, clearly the weaker card—but looking at most of the benchmarks I just scrolled through? It’s either neck-and-neck or the GeForce GTS 450 actually pulls ahead slightly..

Honestly, I think the Sonic one is better—plus, if you're actually gaming, grabbing that GeForce GTS 450 makes way more sense... especially with all that Psychic stuff and whatever other gimmicks ATI tries to push. Personally, I'd just stick with Nvidia.

It’s physics, not psychic 😬

I'd say the GeForce GTS 450 is closer to the Radeon HD 5750 than it is to the Radeon HD 5770, personally. 🙂

First round of testing shows the GeForce GTS 450 takes it..

🙂
So go ahead and think what you want... you won't be too far off. I was always pulling for the Radeon HD 5770, sure, but it's not bringing anything new to the table anymore. The GeForce GTS 450 might be slightly slower on paper, but once you overclock it? Add CUDA and PhysX into the mix? Suddenly, the GeForce GTS 450 is the winner over the Radeon HD 5770..

Sure, someone might pick up a GeForce GTS 450, but honestly—why bother? You’ve got ten different manufacturers making the exact same card, yet they all perform differently... if you ask me, stick with Nvidia for gaming—ATI just isn't it 😁

Does anyone happen to know where I can pick up an MSI HD 6850 Cyclone? I need somewhere that actually ships out to a place like Miami, because unfortunately, Best Buy is completely out of stock right now.😢
