They aren't even scars, really. Just some faint lines from where scabs fell off—you can barely see them!

And how much longer am I supposed to just sit here and "wait for time" to do its thing? Is there anything actually available to speed this up? I need to see some progress, otherwise, I’m honestly starting to spiral into a bit of a panic. 😢

Maybe try using a steel brush and some wet sandpaper...

Douglas Ortiz94, please don't stress out; you aren't going to be left with scars.
No matter how much skin you nicked with that sister, it’s still an injury, and it’s just going to take some time for everything to settle down, right? So just try to relax and stop overthinking it.

To give you an example, I once had some pretty nasty scratches on my hands from my dog during playtime—some were even bleeding. At the time, I was absolutely certain they would leave permanent marks, but enough time passed—maybe six months or a year—and they completely vanished. So, really, there's no need to worry.

I've also known guys who expressed their affection toward their girlfriends in similar ways,🙄 and they didn't end up with any scarring either. Just breathe.

Yeah, just change your name to John lol. Then you can claim you love signing things (crazy names are everywhere)...
Haha, I totally get it. I actually did the same thing—not just once, either, but like, a whole phase... You know that high school era? I was going through this total punk phase, haha, and out of pure boredom, I grabbed a metal file and carved "PUNK" and "A.C.A.B." right into my hand. I thought it looked so cool at the time that I kept doing it lol... Yeah, I was definitely out of my mind. Fast forward six years and lol, there isn't even a trace left... hahaha. But hey, I won't scare you anymore! It stayed on my skin for about a month, and I didn't even put anything on it to make it stick.

Thinking about it, a female name feels even stupider because it makes me look soft. 😁

Anyway, I don't want either. If anyone has advice on how to get rid of redness, please let me know.

Soft or gay—that’s the real question.
Maybe try some oil and massage the area. Just watch where you're doing it; imagine if someone walks in while you're massaging your chest with "John" tattooed on it.
There are plenty of Johns out there: John the Terrible, John Paul II, John Visnjic... impossible to tell which John you were thinking of. Could even be your dead rabbit that was named John. I know you're panicking, but just wait it out; maybe most of the marks will fade. Maybe some microdermabrasion would help?

?

Okay, okay, settle down, drama queen...

But seriously... it’ll clear up soon. Stop rubbing alcohol on it. Just grab some decent skin balm or maybe some Floyd or something similar from the drugstore... those things actually work wonders for redness.

Honestly, you don't even need to put anything on it. Maybe just a tiny bit of alcohol to disinfect or wash it with water... it won't leave a scar. The name might be visible for a little while, but it'll fade away on its own... leaving absolutely no trace...

Thanks for all the advice, everyone.
Some of you say wait, some say go ahead and use some ointment... I think I’ll just try to be patient and hold off on the topical stuff for at least a few more weeks before making a call.

Growing up, I was basically a magnet for injuries—way worse than these little scratches—and they always seemed to heal in like, a blink of an eye. That’s why I’m low-key freaking out a little here.
I mean, this part already closed up in a couple of days, but this redness just refuses to budge! It's being stubborn.

Anyway, I'm gonna play the waiting game and I'll definitely check back in with you guys in a few weeks. (Assuming I don't spiral into another panic attack before then, lol)

Man, you worry too much! Seriously, it’ll fade and leave zero trace... if you really want to, you could use some Aquaphor, though you don't really need it. Just keep it clean and use some antiseptic... and that's it.😁

Alright... there’s really no need to overanalyze it anymore. The wound isn't open, so we're past that stage. Now it’s just about dealing with the redness, and honestly, you've got two ways to play it: the quick fix or the slow burn. The fast way is just to slather on some ointment or lotion. The long way? Just stick to regular showers and let time do its thing—it'll fade eventually. Either way, it's totally safe, and that redness is definitely going to clear up.

Look, I don't really mind waiting a bit... I mean, there's plenty of time before summer hits again. 😁

But since we're talking ointments, which one actually works? You mentioned Floyd earlier. From what I'm seeing online, that stuff seems more for skin irritation. But honestly, it doesn't feel like this is just irritation... because that initial bright red look (right after I did it) went away pretty fast. To me, it feels more like dried blood under the surface... since it isn't bright red anymore, it’s more like this lighter reddish-purple color...

Alright, so is this just some redness, or is there actually blood under the skin? Haha... maybe toss up a photo so we can finally solve the mystery of this red patch... plus, I'd love to get a good look at those legendary marks of honor and bravery you're sporting. 🙂

It’s not irritation, not inflamed or anything like that. Actual redness happened the first day, maybe two at most, and then it cleared up. It stung a little back then, so that was definitely inflammation. But that was two weeks ago. To me, this is strictly blood under the skin because the color isn't even bright red—it's more like a dark, muddy crimson, kind of like how blood looks when it clots, which I'm pretty sure is what's happening here.
If I stretch the skin, it turns lighter, probably because the blood is spreading out or whatever. I don't think that would happen if it were just some surface irritation. Besides, it wouldn't be stinging or anything...

So, yeah, definitely blood under the skin if you ask me!

hmm... is it possible there’s some clotted blood trapped under that healed skin? If that's the case, you might actually need to have it cleared out... but honestly, I'm wondering... just how deep did you actually cut yourself?

Look, at the very least, I'm telling you there wasn't any bleeding—not externally, anyway. Not even a little bit. So yeah, it was totally superficial.

So how am I supposed to "clear it out"?

Look, I’m telling you, I need to see what we're actually dealing with first... or just head straight to the doctor... though they'll probably just end up digging it out with a needle anyway...

Oh, come on, what kind of needle are we even talking about here? 😲
Fine, I'll try to snap a photo in a day or two if I can get the lighting right, then you can take a look. 🙂
From what I can tell, posting pics isn't allowed on this board, so unless you have an email or something...

There is zero chance I'm going to the clinic:
1) because honestly, it doesn't even bother me right now (aside from how it looks)
2) because I'll just end up looking like a total idiot

I mean, this is probably just superficial stuff, right? There’s gotta be some cream or ointment or something for this...

Okay... look, if it’s actually under the skin, then we aren't just talking about a surface scratch here. I mean, I don't know... it probably won't kill you on its own, but that clotted blood needs to get out of your system. If it stays trapped, you're looking at a potential infection down the road. There isn't some magic cream you can just rub on to fix that; if it's sub-dermal, it has to drain. You can post photos here if you want—plenty of people do—but if you're feeling a bit shy about it, just hit me up via DM or email at dvasilj@gmail.com...
I suppose some people go through life walking around with actual bullets lodged in them, so I guess you'll survive a little internal bruising, too.

Whatever... everyone deserves a little comfort now and then. It might seem trivial to you, but for someone else, it could be the one thing keeping them afloat...

Look, I already said it twice—it’s going to fade. There won't be any permanent mark left behind. I've been there myself, totally losing it and cutting things into my skin back in the day... depending on how big the lettering is, in about a month and a half, it'll be gone. Seriously, there is zero reason to worry. Everything is going to be fine! My comment wasn't meant to be hurtful, I just wanted to stop the panic... peace 🙂
