Samsung is faster, but Intel offers a better warranty.

Just depends on what you care about more.😁

I’d personally go with the Samsung, it’s got better speed and you can't beat having three years of warranty protection. 🙂

Or if you want to go a bit further $33, maybe something even faster than a Samsung 840 with a 5-year warranty 😁

Check this one out!

What do you guys think about these two?

I’m leaning toward XFX myself.

Hmph, Fortron holds a silver certification while XFX is rated bronze, but XFX actually packs more punch (45A vs 42A). They’re both pretty close, and since they both offer a 3-year warranty, it's a toss-up. I might give a slight edge to XFX, though... I just like the look of 😬
better.

5 stars. They’re available at both locations

My math. 60 months = 60 months / 20 = 3 years.😬

I’d probably just stick with the Fortron, since it actually comes with a power cord 🤣

Despite any potential backlash (though I'm not entirely sure if the new Team Red fans will make a fuss, or if they even do), I’d honestly take that XFX model over the others any day.

Can anyone toss me some suggestions for a PSU and a case? Nothing crazy expensive, looking to stay under $233.
Here’s what I’m working with:

MB: Asrock Z97 Anniversary (1150)
CPU: i3 4330 3500Mhz or i3 4360 3700Mhz
SSD: Samsung 256GB 850 pro
HDD: WD 20EZRX 2TB
WD 5000AAKX 500GB
MEM: DDR3 16GB 1866MHz (2x8) HyperX Beast KIN
GPU: ASUS GTX650-E-2GD5
CD/DVD writer

It’s a pretty low-demand build, so I figured a 450W power supply should cut it just fine.

I was checking out these options online (stuff available locally near me in Columbus, so I don't have to deal with shipping from NYC):

PSU 550W, LC POWER Silent Giant GREEN POWER, ATX2 v 2.2, 140mm fan $133
PSU 450W, ANTEC VPF450, ATX v2.4, 120mm fan, 80+ Bronze $143

Case ANTEC VSK-4000B, MIDI, black, no PSU $76
Case LC POWER Pro-925B, MIDI, black, no PSU $83
Case LC POWER Pro-927B Dark Purity, MIDI, USB 3.0, black, no PSU $110

Thanks.

Please tell me you didn't actually buy that 😁 ...it would probably be much easier to put together. Are you picking it up from Best Buy because of the financing plan? Or is it just a budget thing?

I haven't picked up a case or a power supply yet. I've been browsing Best Buy since there aren't a ton of tech shops around here in rural Ohio, but if there's a better deal out in Chicago, I'm more than happy to make the drive. Just hit me with some recommendations 🙂

I mean, seriously, who put this together? It feels like it was slapped together by someone who barely knows their way around a motherboard 👎—everything is technically compatible, sure, but we're looking at a Z97 chipset paired with an i3 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a graphics card that isn't even built for gaming... why even go that route?

In that case, the EVGA should be fine.

Look, nobody ever said this rig was built for hardcore gaming. I already had some parts lying around, and for the stuff I actually had to buy (pre-tax, obviously), my options were pretty limited, so this is just what ended up on the desk.
Specifically, I’ve had this GPU sitting around for a year—never even touched it—so I figured, why not use this instead of that crappy integrated graphics on the motherboard?
The whole setup is mostly for coding and doing some light video and photo editing, which is why I went with 16GB of RAM and an SSD.
I’m definitely not touching my current case or power supply since they’re ancient—we're talking 7 or 8 years old. I might be able to squeeze the case out of retirement, but the PSU? No way. That's why I'm hitting you guys up for some solid recommendations on a new case and a reliable power supply.
Thanks for the help, everyone.

Hey, just dropping this question here so I don't clutter things up with a new thread.

I've got this power supply from the photo

http://postimg.org/image/93r1l4x8f/

Running an i3 Sandy Bridge setup with two GeForce GTX 660s in SLI (overclocked to 900MHz).

Supposedly this PSU is dual rail, so I thought I'd be clever. Instead of pulling both PCI-E connectors from the same cable, I used a SATA adapter for the second card.

The thing is, all the PCI-E (6+6+2) leads are on one cable—not saying "rail" because I wouldn't bet money that this thing actually is dual rail.

All the SATA connectors are on one cable, so basically just two cables total.
Right now, one card is on the PCI-E lead and the other is running off the SATA adapter.

Looking at how the current is laid out in the picture above, did I screw this up?
Does anyone know which rail handles the motherboard + CPU?

12V(1) is 25A, 12V(2) is 20A... how does that split between the CPU and two GPUs?

BTW, everything seems fine for now. The cards have been hammering away at SETI@home at 100% for about 10 hours and nothing has blown up yet.

Based on reviews of some similar Corsair models, one rail was dedicated to the PCI Express connectors and the 24-pin motherboard plug, while the other handled the CPU, SATA, and peripheral power.

12V1 rail (solid yellow wire): powers the motherboard and graphics card
12V2 rail (yellow with black stripe wire): covers the EPS12V (CPU), SATA, and SATA/peripheral cables

Yeah, honestly, it all comes down to the quality of your power supply unit.

Do you even have a motherboard that actually supports SLI properly? You'd need one with an extra PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot to handle it—those are usually the higher-end models.

thanks!

So it’s actually better to pair the second card with the CPU rather than running 2xPCI-E?
25A isn't enough for SLI.
I was honestly skeptical, thinking these weren't two actual independent rails.
