Btw, @wiredotter14/">@@wiredotter14

It looks like your board is pretty much throttling the second card since that second slot is just PCI Express 2.0 x4. I guess there wasn't much point in getting a second one, was there?

Timothy Kim60 said:Yeah, depends entirely on the PSU you're running.

Do you even have a motherboard that actually supports SLI properly? Usually requires a second x8 slot—those aren't your cheap budget boards.

Nope. I'm on a Z77 Motherboard, so the second slot is just PCI Express 2.0 x4.

Based on this, there shouldn't be a massive bottleneck for a GeForce GTX 660 since it's weaker than the cards in the test.

Another thing: I mainly picked up the second card for SETI@home (it was about $217 used).

Right now, I don't even have SLI enabled.

The games I play don't even support SLI anyway (World of Warships and Battlefield).

We'll see how Red Dead Redemption runs once I grab it.

You really don't need anything better than this.

It’s just one GPU.
Money isn't really the issue if I end up upgrading the PC, but I want to make sure the power supply is decent.
Is what I listed actually any good? That's why I'm asking.

It’s alright, but honestly—in that same price range—you can find way better options that come with a beefier warranty: like the EVGA SuperNOVA 550 or an XFX TS 550W 80+ Bronze.

Yeah, look, my main thing is keeping the price under $167. I'm asking if the quality is actually decent since it's got that certification, so maybe it's fine?

Nah. If you’d gone with the GP3 series, you might have been okay. This is just that older, weaker GP2 series that doesn't really bring anything to the table. Honestly, whenever you see a high watt rating for a dirt-cheap price, just run the other way.

Besides, I don't trust them because they always use these weird measurement specs that leave you guessing. They'll claim a massive amount of amps on the 12V rail that, by any basic formula, doesn't actually match the declared wattage. It means they're cutting corners somewhere...

If you absolutely have to grab something from Amazon, then this one or this one . Both will do the job, and at least with these, you know the wattage is actually a direct product of voltage and amperage 😬

Even though there’s been some confusion regarding the +12V ratings—since they seem to have several different versions floating around—if I were looking at the 560w gp3, I’d still go for it. In my experience, these units are much more rugged and reliable than anything you'll find from Apevia or Smart Tchefteca (there have even been several local reviews from sites like PCMag or Tom's Hardware that noted the same thing), and everyone who tested them was pleasantly surprised. Right now, it’s easily the strongest power supply option available $133 in most US retail stores

Man $175 for an EVGA 450, god help me from those maniacs... I recently picked up some extra 4 GB of RAM for my laptop, cost me $350, but there isn't anything smart to buy in Cleveland besides Links. You can find it at the IRS for $260. They really push it way too far...

Stock prices are a joke... In Indianapolis, they’ve basically all cleared out too—it's the same old story. Sure, you might stumble upon something decent at Chipstore or Amazon once in a blue moon, but those are rare finds...

Honestly, I don't know... he barely has anything in stock, so everything has to be ordered in. I once ordered a specific graphics card from him—we agreed on the exact model and specs, I paid upfront, and he was supposed to order it. But when my son went to pick it up, the guy just shoved some completely different random card from his shelf into his hands instead. I’ve been there twice now, and I'm done. I've got nothing against the guy personally, and maybe someone else will have better luck, but it just didn't sit right with me.

Yeah, exactly.
Some of his stuff is even pricier than Links 😳..actually, everything he has is more expensive than Links.

This one might make the cut... but it's
over your budget.$6.25 😳

This fits within your budget.😁

Maybe this is actually better than the XFX one. 🙂

For $3.00, I wouldn't go grab coffee just once. 😬

Don't even bother grabbing coffee once $3.00 😬

Coffee is easy enough 😬 but when Newegg says "available"... 🤔

I've never personally ordered from Newegg, but I know plenty of people who have. They got burned just as bad as anyone dealing with those sketchy local shops...

That's why I steer clear of shady stores like the plague.
