Wait, wasn't everyone saying that Newegg was just a webshop owned by Links?

Nah, the Newegg guys were just handling parts for 👍

So, I stay far away from sketchy shops whenever possible.

I went with the Thermaltake power supply because of the long cables and the 3-year warranty. Thanks for the help! Regarding Newegg, I've had some pretty terrible experiences there in the past.

My PC build:

FX 8350
ASrock 970 Pro r2.0
MSI 750ti
8GB RAM
1 hard drive
CD/DVD drive
Sound card

I was thinking about picking up a Corsair CX Modular Series CX430M, 430 watt

but according to the Cooler Master PSU calculator, I only need about 370w.

Right now, I'm running some random 600w unit that honestly doesn't feel right. It's constantly running hot, and sometimes there's this weird smell coming from it—you know, like that strange scent a hair dryer gives off after it's been running for a while?

Look, man $134. What do you actually think W pulled in?

That setup will pull roughly 200W under full load. Honestly, even a decent 400W unit would handle that PC build just fine, like a Fortron Hexa 400W or an Antec VP400PC 400W.

If you want to stay around $133, grab the XFX TS 430 W—it’s a step up in quality, plus you get a 5-year warranty. Or, if you're looking for more raw power up to , go with the LC6560GP3$133. But if you want to play it safe, definitely check out $167-- http://www.newegg.com/products/detail...550sgren/91312.

Grab that one if you're planning on upgrading your GPU down the road.

Well, what's your take on the Corsair CX Modular Series CX430M?

That power supply is actually pretty solid—it should handle everything without any issues.

It should be plenty. If you're dead set on a modular unit, the selection isn't actually that massive. Personally, I'd lean toward the EVGA 550w just to have some breathing room in case you decide to drop in a more power-hungry GPU down the road. It's better to have that extra headroom for the next five years or so.

I'm out of ideas here, so I'll let you guys decide 🙈...between these three (Antec, Fortron, SuperFlower). The prices are basically identical and the warranties are the same. Which one would you pick for this PC build? (Keep in mind I'm planning to add two more fans to the case, and by the end of the year, I want to swap the HD7850 for a GTX 970):
CPU: Intel I5-4690K @ 3.5 GHz
MBO: Asrock Z-97 Pro4
RAM: 2X8 GB DDR3-1866
GPU: XFX HD 7850 2GB DD
PSU: CORSAIR 650HX
CASE: ANTEC 300 (two fans)
SSD1: 120 GB Samsung EVO
HDD2: 500 GB Seagate 7200 SATA
HDD3: 1 TB Samsung 7200 SATA
HDD4: 1 TB WD My Passport - external
MONITOR: Samsung S23A350H, 23" LED

I'm not worried about the fans regarding power draw, just concerned about how many cables come with the PSU 😉

If I had to put money on it, I’d bet on the Antec or the SuperFlower; I’d definitely cut the Fortron Raider out of that lineup.

If you can stretch it just a bit more $33:

Basically the same thing as this:

Except the Fractal is semi-modular, while the Seasonic is fully modular (though it’s pretty much the same deal since those fixed cables are mandatory anyway).

That would probably go a long way in helping you prevent cable clutter inside the case... 😉

Man... SuperFlower, Antec, Fractal Edison, Seasonic G...

The Fortron Raider isn't even my first choice. 😱

The world offer... what a cute little dilemma to have... 🤷

Fractal and Seasonic are definitely hitting my wallet harder than I’d like, so I guess I'll be scraping together some extra cash like TNG suggested ☕.

...but now I'm stuck: should I go with Antec as the main focus or just keep it as an afterthought? 😬.

I'm torn between two power supplies:

http://www.newegg.com/products/detail...020097us/85003

http://www.newegg.com/products/detail...550sgren/91312

At first, I was looking at getting a Fortron Hexa or maybe a Hyper, but then I read some stuff saying those series aren't really all that great, so I'm leaning towards one of these two instead.

My current PC build has an Intel I3 3220 and an MSI 270 x card, plus an HDD, DVD/RW drive, keyboard, mouse, webcam, a USB TV tuner, and an external HDD. Right now, I'm running a Xilence Redwing 450 w, but I definitely want to beef things up a bit.

Thx.

The Corsair VS is honestly worse than both the Hexe and the Hyper... In my opinion, the XFX TS is much higher quality than all of them. Though, you probably don't even need to worry about it since your PC build will barely pull 250W under full load. That Xilence unit—which is a bit better than the Corsair VS—should handle it easily, even if you decided to swap in an i7 later on.

Thanks for getting back to me. I keep getting hit with the Blue Screen of Death every once in a while while I'm using Google Chrome or playing Witcher 3 (it only happens when I'm hanging out in the game menus). I've already messed around with both old and new drivers, but man, nothing seems to fix it.

My PC doesn't really shut down or restart on its own or anything, but my GPU is currently hooked up with one 6-pin connector, and I'm using a Molex adapter for the second 6-pin.

So, I figured I might as well just swap out the power supply since I was gonna have to upgrade it eventually anyway. I've decided to go with the XFX 👍
