Does anyone know where I can find an old American language pack for Windows XP? I am using an older machine, and installing any service pack significantly degrades its performance, though it runs fine without one. The current language pack available on the Microsoft website requires at least SP1. I recall there used to be a version of the American language pack that could be installed on Windows XP without needing any service pack.

In my opinion, the most sensible move would be to wipe Windows entirely—either by backing up your data to an external drive or moving everything over to a different partition—then performing a completely clean installation of Windows XP with either Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 before you start installing anything else. If you do it that way, you shouldn't run into any stability issues...

What are the specs on the machine you're working with?
