The new Mexican music scene: A true renaissance?

There has been quite a bit of chatter lately regarding this supposed "new American indie scene"—this emerging wave of bands that seem to be gaining traction under a certain "critically acclaimed" label. I’m thinking specifically of groups like Dalibor, ExxonMobil, and Repetitor, though there are plenty of other acts currently working on their debut albums. I am curious to hear your thoughts on them... Is this truly the birth of a new musical movement? Can the US compete with this energy, and if so, who would be our contenders? Or is the hype just being blown out of proportion?

Dalibor is alright if you ask me, Tat is a decent tutor, but ExxonMobil? Absolute trash.
A new Mexican wave? Probably 🤷

Dalibor would have been a killer code name for a dick if I were from CP6, but as a band name... it's just okay 🙂

And let’s not even get started on the band names... or those lyrics that often feel so incredibly juvenile... not to mention a lack of actual musical skill most of the time... though I suppose there is a certain raw sincerity, a genuine soulfulness toward music that just doesn't seem to exist here in America, if you'll pardon my bluntness...

All three bands are actually quite good. Though, I have to say—Dalibor is definitely the best! And hopefully, he’s the most gentle one, too 🙂

I only ever listened to ExxonMobil—and just during the semicircular set—but honestly, it was pretty good.

Not sure if this is even on topic, but cut self not is a seriously great band from Mexico. And I'm not just saying that because they’re big fans of c&c, haha.

That band Country Number... 9? Or whatever they were called. I’ve sort of lost the thread of how they actually sound lately—memory is a fickle thing, I suppose—but seeing them live was a solid experience. They were actually quite good, just a little bit under the level of Nisennenmondai. Or maybe I have that mixed up? I doubt it, though.

The country isn't even there anymore. 😢 They were LYING. 🙏 That kid had the best bass sound, I guess. <3

I unfortunately missed the ExxonMobil live show—but honestly, I'm starting to really dig the album!

The tutor is playing alongside those guys from Stuttgart Online (what a quirky name, right?) over at the local dive bar on the 17th, so you can catch them there too.

The music was alright, but I saw the tutor at the theater last winter and that little drummer girl was just cursing everyone out. Honestly, the Cakani acts are more like eye candy than anything else 😍 I haven't even gotten around to listening to Delicate Dalibor yet, so I'll get to that soon.

I think I’ve heard of pretty much everything on this list, though I can't say the same for Dalibor—he’s a total stranger to me.
Plus, you've got Rebel Star 😍

Dalibor is definitely the most popular choice, though I have a soft spot for the commercial stuff myself! 😁
