Noah Myers67 said:I said *at least*... I mean, look, Bob Dylan pulled 20,000 people to a mid-sized US city—and he’s actually cheaper than pretty much every single headliner we've seen at Coachella so far. 😉

I don't know exactly what the booking fees look like for Neil Young and Jim Morrison—honestly, who does?—but my gut tells me they’re going to be significantly more expensive than the rest of this lineup.

Ugh... you’re really overreaching with this one. It's just not true—Bob didn't pull that many people to a campus event, and let's be real, a Coachella headliner isn't exactly budget-friendly.

I think I read somewhere that there were about 20,000 people, so that's what stuck with me 😉

EDIT: I did a little digging online, and most reporters are saying it was closer to 15,000. Honestly, it doesn't even matter...

By the way, I still stand by my belief that they're cheaper than the Coachella headliners. And they're definitely the most affordable option out of all those big names...

amberranger said:Some bands just don't want to play festivals. Others are way too big for them. Like, Pavement would happily play some snobby festival (Coachella, etc.) if you pay them like 5x what they'd get for a club gig.

You're clearly not reading. 😠 The guy I was quoting was talking about how some bands put on a total disaster of a performance at festivals because they aren't "festival bands." Honestly, I think that's just nonsense.

It's true that some bands won't touch festivals, but it's also true that very few bands would actually turn down a festival if the money is right. And yeah, festival sets are more expensive than solo shows. The real question is whether it’s worth dropping like $75,000 on Belle and Sebastian :razbacujesebrojkama: just for maybe two or three thousand people to show up... or if you should just spend that cash on a bunch of cheaper bands that'll pull the same crowd and help with the "genre diversity" of the festival... 🤣

Most of those reporters are wrong, too.
And I have no idea where you're getting your info on Bob Dylan. Having looked at the numbers for both acts myself, I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Well, lay those numbers on me then. I'm curious.🙂

If you just look back at how Nerd and the Editors performed at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last year, you might find it easier to make sense of my point...

That’s just not even a fair comparison.

The Editors played at 5 PM, while Nerd didn't hit the stage until 10 PM. Obviously, the crowd was going to be way bigger for the later set. Plus, you can't really expect some mediocre British indie band—you know, those scrawny types—to draw the kind of massive crowd an American MTV hip-hop superstar pulls. And let's be honest, Pharrell Williams is one of the most overrated people in the music industry, so half the people were probably just there to see if he actually looked like he does on TV.

To’s true, they aren’t exactly in the same league. Take the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival from two years ago, when they played just as night was starting to settle in, and compare that to the YYYs set. The timing is roughly similar, and both are major players in the industry, but let’s be real—Karen organized an outdoor gig, whereas at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, people were mostly just sitting on the ground, except for the hardcore fans right up in the front row. It really comes down to whether you can command an open space or not. There are plenty of factors involved, including the genre of music, but I think these two are actually perfect for a comparison. One group absolutely kills it outdoors, while the others simply don't. Simple as that...

Are we actually talking about an outdoor concert here or a full-blown festival? Because, honestly, those two things aren't even in the same ballpark.

Sadly, I missed out on the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this year, though I’ve been hearing nothing but rave reviews everywhere... On the flip side, I checked out some tracks from the YYYs and—honestly?—they were absolutely terrible. 😛

Take, for example, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival two years ago—they played right as night was starting to settle in—versus that YYYs set. The timing is somewhat similar, and sure, both are huge names, but let's be real: Karen put together an outdoor gig where people were actually vibing, whereas at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, everyone was just sitting on the ground, except for the hardcore fans right up in the front row. It’s pretty binary: you either have that energy or you don't! There’s obviously a connection to the genre too, but I think these two are perfect for this comparison. One group absolutely kills it outdoors, and the other... well, they just don't. Simple as that.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was so intense it was almost unreal—people were mesmerized, especially since nobody was messing around with the band members or anything like that. 😍
And honestly, the YYYs' performance was such a letdown that I don't even like them much anymore. And yeah, there were millions of people crowding everywhere, but I think only about 20 of us were actually jumping around. 🙄

I thought Lily Allen was okay, but man, the crowd was really moving! Honestly, I'm getting a headache just from hearing people try to "defend" the Editors, but I can't recall anyone else who had a crowd that engaged at that time of day—and trust me, I've been to plenty of shows out there... I know everyone stands in a different spot 🙄, but it seems like a ton of people on the forums after the show were saying stuff like, "I don't get why they're even famous," so I THINK MY OPINION IS SPOT ON!!

There's no shortage of gossip to go around, is there?

He was a total joke. Who are you kidding?
Of course the die-hard fans were buzzing. I’d be losing my mind too if Joe Strummer or Moz showed up on my doorstep, but that doesn't mean the rest of us casual onlookers would remember it as a actually good show...

They’re exactly what you see on stage, and I'll admit, they probably don't win over the casual crowds easily. But having caught them in an intimate club setting in Chicago last year, I actually thought their set at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was even stronger...

I suspect the main reason the YYYs struggled was due to poor sound quality and subpar acoustics. They truly gave it their all, and even as someone who isn't exactly a huge fan, I have to admit they put in the work
