Aha, thanks 🙂 I wasn't really following things last year, so I had no clue 😉

edit: in that case, I'm voting for Arctic Monkeys and The Dead Weather 😉

Honestly, I don't think there's much of a connection—unless they actually believe bands like Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica, or Radiohead are ever going to play a show at Central Park.

I only heard about Radiohead.

They might have low media exposure, but they’re definitely worth checking out. 😁 Honestly, if people were lining up last year for shows like Art Brut, The Go! Team, Sons and Daughters, !!!, or The Hold Steady, I’m pretty sure they’d be just as stoked to catch these acts too. It's basically the same crowd.

, Yo La Tengo, Wilco…

I have to agree... honestly, I nearly died of pure boredom listening to Editors (even though I do enjoy them sometimes), so maybe it would be the same with Interpolom-al, who knows.
But anyway, I think I'd add a few more names to that list: Sigur Rós (man, if you can book them, I'll buy you a whole case of beer), Explosions in the Sky, Iron & Wine, M. Ward, Calexico, Ry Cooder, and then a few "commercial" ones—Kings of Leon, The Killers, Coldplay, Muse (though I've already seen The Killers, Muse, and Sigur live, but it doesn't matter much)...

Mercury Rev too!

Arthur Morgan5 said:Yeah, it would be awesome if they brought out acts like LCD Soundsystem, Dan Deacon, The Juan MacLean, or Justice...

I don't get why everyone is obsessing over Justice—they're just a standard house/electro duo, honestly. It's funny how the "indie" crowd usually looks down on house music, yet they treat Digitalism and Justice like gods. 🤷

LCD Soundsystem, Dan Deacon 👍

My pick would be My Bloody Valentine—I already suggested them for Lollapalooza, and besides, The Pier is dropping a new album in a year or so...😍

What a pile of nonsense... 😂

Anyway, if the organizers actually cared about profitability, brand image, or popularity, their number one picks should have been PLACEBO and SLAYER.

Yeah, Placebo has already proven they are a total money maker... 😁

There’s a real chance Bob Dylan might make his way to the States..."North American Summer tour including shows in Denver, Austin, Washington, D.C., Salt Lake City, Czech Republic (Prague), the US and Mexico part is almost 100% sure"

Word is he’ll be hitting the big festivals too (like Coachella or Glastonbury this June). Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up headlining Coachella...

rise against the machine 🙂

Most of what you guys listed aren't even true festival acts... it would be just like having Lily Allen headline last year. Honestly, it’s pretty pathetic. If you want to see bands like Wilco, maybe go find a dive bar in some small town and marvel at those American hipsters 😍

What we actually need here is someone like Moby—someone nobody actually likes, but everyone ends up having a great time with...

They’ve built up a pretty solid fanbase, so I suppose it would be a total slam dunk.

I'm not so sure. I think they were already huge back when they played in Berlin for the second time alongside two other "big" bands. Even then, they barely pulled in 3,000 people. And back in 2001, they only had about 1,500 at the arena...

The real heavy hitters are always the old school legends... guys like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Van Morrison. Those icons can pull a crowd of at least 5,000 to 6,000 people anywhere they go, no questions asked.

I feel like deciding whether a band is "festival material" or not is just totally arbitrary. Like, I don't even get it—what makes Wilco not a festival band? Or Pavement? Or The Flaming Lips? Or... anyone, really? I guess it’s all just vibes, which is kind of annoying.

Lily Allen’s set wasn't exactly a total disaster or anything—it was actually pretty fun. I mean, she was a little disappointing (at least for some people, I guess)... 😵 I mean, honestly—the whole seven-day casino vibe at Lollapalooza was actually pretty incredible. It’s just how things go, I guess.

I honestly think like eighty percent of the people on this forum who want to see Wilco would much rather catch them at a spot like Madison Square Garden or a dive bar run by a local rock band than deal with a massive festival—and yeah, I’m definitely one of those people. That doesn't mean they wouldn't be a killer choice for Coachella, some big rock group, or any other festival in the city or around here, though.

The third time 😉

Honestly, 5,000–6,000 is a pretty small turnout for acts with that kind of $$$ price tag.

Kyle Wilson74 said:In my opinion, labeling a band as "festival material" or "not festival material" is a wildly arbitrary distinction.

Some bands just don't care for the festival circuit. Others are simply too big for it. Take Pavement, for instance—they’ll happily play some snobby festival like Coachella if you're willing to pay them five times their usual club gig fee.

I was just talking about the bare minimum. Bob Dylan pulled 20,000 people at a show in Austin, and he’s actually cheaper than most of the headliners we've seen at Coachella so far.😉

I have no idea what the booking fees are for Neil Young or Van Morrison, but I'm betting they're a lot more expensive...

I don't know what Young or Morrison charge, but I bet they're way more expensive...

Look, I love Dylan too, but let's not get carried away and double the numbers. In that small town, most estimates put the crowd closer to ten thousand.😉

Besides, I wouldn't want to see him at a festival again. I'd much rather catch him in a smaller venue.🙂
