Hi,

I’ve got a fresh surgical scar—only about 20 days old—and I’ve been using Aveeno Cicalfate cream for now. However, I was told to use a silicone gel called Vaseline, which is practically impossible to find here in the States... I did some digging and stumbled upon a similar product that actually is available locally. It’s called Dermatix, also a silicone gel. From my amateur comparison, they seem nearly identical.
I'm wondering if anyone has actually used these products—are they truly the same thing, or is that Vaseline really so superior that it's worth tearing my hair out trying to track it down........

So, I actually went under the knife just about two weeks ago myself, and honestly, ever since then, I’ve been totally spiraling through this forum looking for any and all advice I can get my hands on... 😁

So, I finally went ahead and picked up some Dermatix, that scar cream from Dr. Phil’s brand—you know, the one that's huge over in Europe and gets tons of hype there, even though it's kind of a hidden gem around here in the States, but you can still track it down at most local pharmacies if you look hard enough.
I actually picked this up specifically because my mom had to undergo a mastectomy a few years back after her cancer diagnosis, and honestly, the scarring looked pretty rough at first. But we stayed on top of it, being super consistent with the application, and after burning through a couple of tubes of this stuff, you can barely even tell there was anything there anymore! 🙂
I’ve got about fifteen stitches myself—three little ones and one big one right on my face—so I am putting all my faith into this, seriously! 🙏

Honestly, you really can't sleep on this one—protecting a fresh scar from the sun is like, super important, especially right now while it's still settling in.
Honestly, if you want to survive this summer without looking like a burnt piece of toast, you really need to try and dodge the sun altogether, or at least make sure you’re slathering on some top-tier sunscreen with a massive SPF rating... I mean, seriously, don't mess around with the cheap stuff. After spending way too much time scrolling through all those random threads and reading everyone's wild theories and suggestions here, I finally stopped overthinking it and just went with Eucerin, and honestly, it's been a total lifesaver.
So I was just scrolling through this Eucerin page about their SPF 50+ sunscreen, and honestly, if you’re like me and spend way too much time out in the sun, you really need to take a look at this stuff. It's one of those things where you think you're fine just wearing a hat or whatever, but then you realize how much damage you're actually doing to your skin without even knowing it. This specific formula is pretty heavy-duty, which is exactly what you want if you're planning on hanging out at the beach all day or just driving around under that intense afternoon sun. It's super smooth, too, and doesn't leave you feeling like you've coated your entire body in grease, which is always my biggest gripe with most high-SPF lotions. I feel like people underestimate how important UV protection is until they're dealing with a nasty burn or premature wrinkles, so just do yourself a favor and grab some. It's definitely worth having in your bag before you head out for the weekend.
I’ve gotta say, I am absolutely loving this!
Thanks again, ladies! Seriously, you guys are the best. 😍

Look, you don't even need to ask me about that because we already have an entire massive thread dedicated just to scars right here on the forum, so honestly, you should just go dive into that and find what you're looking for...
I honestly think people overcomplicate this whole thing because they want a magic fix, but if you actually listen to what the experts say, it’s pretty straightforward, though I know that sounds easier said than done when you're staring at a scar in the mirror every morning. I was reading some stuff about how people use Vaseline to keep things hydrated, which makes sense because moisture is everything, but then you have those specialized things like Dermatix that are specifically designed for exactly this, so it really comes down to whether you want the basic approach or the heavy-duty stuff. It's kind of like how some people just stick to a simple diet while others go full keto or whatever, but you have to do what works for your own skin. I remember seeing someone mention using Eucerin too, and honestly, that stuff is a classic for a reason, it's reliable and doesn't feel like you're trying too hard. Anyway, I saw Michelle Ward9 mentioning something similar a while back and I think she had a point about being patient, because skin doesn't just transform overnight just because you started rubbing a cream on it, you know? You can't rush the biology of it. And I don't know, maybe even checking in with a guy like Dr. Phil if you're feeling overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice out there might help ground you, though he's more for life advice than dermatology, I guess, but you get my drift. Just stay consistent and don't freak out if you don't see results by Tuesday.

Anyway, I really hope that helped you out a little bit, so definitely give me an update once you see how things are going with getting that scar to fade!

Cure, I would actually recommend using SPF 100. With the sun getting more intense and radiation levels rising, you need total protection if you want to keep your skin looking young.
