Basically, we're seeing the 285s starting to pop up at the $250 mark following the release of the Pro and Sapphire models. This is likely that window everyone anticipates during a generational shift, where rebranded versions might end up retailing for around $275-$$600 😬
But let’s be real, new GPUs are always overpriced. This could just be a sign that eventually everything will settle down to $500. And we're talking about Strix and Link models here! Some of the priciest hardware out there from one of the most expensive retailers

Some folks would rather trade their last dollar for a computer or a car just to end up starving later.👎

Have you guys noticed how Links has actually bumped up their prices lately—in a good way—especially when you ignore the online sticker price?

Sure, if you consider their current stock total garbage

Their selection is pretty weak when it comes to graphics cards, and maybe a few sockets over at Micro Center too.
But honestly, it’s becoming a solid option for people living in places like Indianapolis who don't want to trek into New York City because they're worried about warranties. Plus, those installment plans are actually decent. 🙂

Exactly. With prices set this high, I doubt anyone would even consider a payment plan at this point.
#168 ·
Honestly, if they don't drop those prices soon, I might just drive down there and pick it up myself rather than dealing with the headache of waiting on a webshop delivery 😁

FX 8300 at a few shops below $333 😵
I mean, the drop isn't massive, but seeing those three digits hit a certain level just has a stronger psychological impact.
As that CPU gets older, its price is going to bottom out, especially once Broadwell and Skylake start hitting the market...
The FX 6300 is starting to lose its value proposition; I have no idea why the price isn't dropping faster.🤷
BTW, has anyone else noticed the A10 7850K is also hovering around $333? (If I recall correctly, it was around 1200-$433 just a couple of weeks ago)
DDR3 prices are sliding, and DDR4 is dropping even faster—it’s almost reaching parity with DDR3 costs now.

I was actually telling a buddy yesterday that now might be a pretty decent time to pick up a new PC
#171 ·
Well, the kid actually went and surprised me by pulling a passing grade, so now I find myself duty-bound to honor my word... 😉
I’m looking for suggestions on a desktop setup—something geared toward gaming—with a budget of up to $2000.
The only way I can handle the payment is via credit card installments through 😢, provided that
.
Alternatively, I could just buy all the individual components on my card and pay some local tech prodigy in cash to handle the actual planning and assembly of the rig.
Thanks for the links, everyone.

I mean, why wouldn't a prodigy need it? That’s just how retail works... How old is the kid anyway? It's about the library of games he'll be running; you have to pick a GPU that actually keeps up. And let's face it, you need the whole setup—monitor, keyboard, mouse, decent speakers... Plus, everyone uses credit cards or financing these days, it's standard practice.
Anyway, congrats to the kid. It's a hell of a surprise. 😁

Almost every retailer north of $667 offers free assembly on select components. Which specific graphics card are you looking at, and what kind of financing terms are they offering? Also, are you planning to shop online or go into a physical store? That’ll definitely influence which shop I'd recommend.

According to the TechPowerUp review, this thing actually runs 11°C cooler than the Noctua NH-D14. 🐔
Here is a decent, budget-friendly full build spec

Wooooo
That hardware is worth like $12k, but he's offering the whole setup for 6, and it's still under warranty. I don't know, sounds even more insane than my G502 I grabbed for 😲 on eBay $40 😬

You're just gonna end up with a pile of broken junk 😬

Look, there's a massive difference between someone trying to flip something worth $167 for 130, and someone selling a 12 or 13 million dollar asset for half price. So, please excuse me, 😬 🙂

I wasn't even talking about the PC here; I was talking about your rodent 🙂
