I might have stumbled upon another possibility here. It seems like things started acting up right around the time my laptop began sharing its Wi-Fi card for internet access. Once I've had a chance to run a few more tests and see what sticks, I think I’ll just go ahead and uninstall the program entirely before attempting a fresh reinstall.

Oh, so you're just mentioning that now? That could easily be your issue; there is a high probability it's the cause.
Jesus...

How massive are we talking? It didn't really strike me as a viable option until I started messing around with the calendar and realized the dates actually align up quite nicely 🙂

I just wanted to drop a quick note and let you all know that I went ahead and uninstalled that software we were talking about, and honestly, everything seems to be running smoothly now. Even booting up Linux from a USB drive is working without any hiccups, which is a relief. I’m going to keep a close eye on things over the next few days just to make sure the stability holds up, but so far, so good.

Thanks so much to everyone for jumping in with all those suggestions and ideas. 🙂

I just wanted to check in and let you all know that I think I’ve finally tracked down what was causing all that trouble. A huge thanks to B.B. King for pointing me toward the right path; I really appreciate the nudge. 🙂

My laptop froze up on me again today, but after I went through the hassle of restarting everything, I took a look at the logs in the Event Viewer and found these entries:

The IPv6 failed to configure IPv6 stack.
The IPv6 was unable to allocate bytes of memory. This may indicate that the system is low on virtual memory, or that the memory manager has encountered an internal error.
The DNS proxy agent was unable to allocate 0 bytes of memory. This may indicate that the system is low on virtual memory, or that the memory manager has encountered an internal error.

After doing a bit of digging on Google to see if anyone else was dealing with this, I stumbled upon a ton of people running into the exact same headaches I was. It turns out the culprit is actually Internet Connection Sharing—you know, the feature I had enabled to share my LAN connection via the Wi-Fi card so my phone could get online. So, I went ahead and disabled the service and turned off the sharing entirely... now we just wait and see if that keeps things stable.

Thanks again to everyone for all the help 🙂
