I caught mono back in mid-August... I had all the classic symptoms, plus that nasty rash from taking Amoxicillin, but by late September, everything seemed to have cleared up. My labs were fine, my lymph nodes were back to a normal size, and everything looked solid. Now, suddenly, over the last few days, my lymph nodes have swollen up quite a bit again, my head is throbbing, and I’m feeling completely wiped out. Is it actually possible to catch mono all over again, especially considering my tests were totally clear just a month ago?

I went through this exact same thing a few years ago, so I know exactly what you're going through.
It isn't that the mono came back; it's more likely that you still haven't fully kicked it. Even if your lab results look clean, the virus lingers in your system for a while. You might feel like you're "over the hump," but you aren't quite in the clear yet.
As you probably already know, there isn't a specific cure for mononucleosis. All you can really do is rest and manage the symptoms. It usually takes about six months, sometimes even longer, to completely recover. For me, the aftermath involved a swollen spleen, issues with my liver, and a seriously weakened immune system.
You really need to take it easy for a while—maybe a month or two of actual rest. Then, for the next year, stay away from alcohol and don't go pushing yourself too hard. No heavy sports, running, or anything high-impact. Your immune system is vulnerable right now, which means you'll pick up every little cold or flu going around if you aren't careful.
To be honest, I didn't listen to my doctors when they gave me those warnings, and I paid for it later. 🙄
The bottom line is that the mono is still hanging on. Please take care of yourself. And definitely talk to your doctor about it! 🙂

honestly, just go see a doctor... get some blood work done and have them check your liver enzymes. It’s totally possible you never actually cleared the infection and the virus is just flaring up again. And yeah, the reality is EBV stays tucked away in your system forever, just like all those other herpes viruses. comforting, isn't it...
