I’ve been reading through this forum, and it seems like everyone is telling me I should be taking folic acid to deal with HPV. Now, I know Centrum multivitamins have some folic acid in them, but I’m wondering if there's actually a standalone supplement out there... just straight-up folic acid tablets?

Thanks

They exist, just ask at a local pharmacy—there are plenty of different brands out there

I've been sticking with Centrum's Folate. It’s got five times more folate than those other random supplements out there, so you really only need to pop one tablet a day to get it done. Usually, you'd need a prescription for stuff this potent, but honestly, most pharmacies just let you grab it over the counter without any hassle. 🙂

Do they actually give you trouble at the pharmacy if I don't have a prescription for Folate?🙄

I’ve been taking Folic Acid Plus lately—you can just grab it at any local CVS or Walgreens without needing a prescription.

They wouldn't give me the Folate without a prescription—so I just grabbed some Twinlab Folic Acid caps instead. Honestly, there’s a dozen different brands of folic acid out there anyway.

Centrum is technically classified as a prescription drug because a single pill packs five times the folic acid found in standard supplements. That’s why doctors prescribe it; my doctor actually tried to push it on me, but honestly, it just depends on which pharmacist you end up dealing with at the drugstore...

The other stuff is just labeled as a "dietary supplement" since the folic acid content is way lower, so you can just grab them off the shelf like any other vitamin.

I originally picked up a bottle of Twinlab Folic with 100 tablets and was taking five of them every single day. I eventually switched over to Centrum so I could get that same massive dose from just one pill. Those Twinlab ones were about $17, while the Centrum $6.25 bottle with 20 tablets goes for
.
I basically set my own dosage based on what some girl on this forum suggested, since apparently you need huge amounts if you're dealing with HPV, and besides, your body just flushes out whatever it doesn't need anyway. Plus, it's way more convenient to pop one pill a day instead of juggling five when I'm already taking a bunch of other immune support stuff 🙄

At the end of the day, one pill is better than five...
Like you said, it’s not just about this one supplement. I’ve been trying my best to stay on top of my immune health, but I really don't think I need to be swallowing five extra tablets every single day. It feels excessive.

I could probably get my doctor to write me a prescription if I asked... but then there's the hassle of ordering it, waiting two weeks for delivery, and who knows if she'd even bother? Every time you try to get a straight answer out of them, they just stall and give you the runaround...

My aunts are being absolute pains and won't let me touch any Folate—and honestly, I’m not exactly itching to deal with a doctor just to get a prescription. Between the endless waiting rooms and the constant arguing, it's just not worth the headache. So, how did you guys figure out your dosage if you're taking it for HPV? Right now, I'm just popping one or two Twinlab tablets, but it feels like I'm barely doing anything. Does anyone actually know what the recommended daily amount of folic acid should be for us?

For HPV, you’re looking at a dose of 5-10 mg—basically one or two Nature Made Folic Acid tablets—but some sources even suggest up to 20 mg when dealing with HPV. I was just reading about this on a wellness site yesterday... They say you can't really overdo it, since if you take too much, your body just flushes the excess out anyway.

I'm sticking with Nature Made Folic Acid. Just one pill gives me everything I need for the day, plus you can just grab it over the counter without needing a doctor's note.

Besides taking supplements, try loading up on green veggies and legumes. And since it’s orange season right now, eat as many as you can... they’re actually one of the best natural sources of folic acid, just like leafy greens. I also read somewhere that if you take really high doses of 👍 , like anywhere from 5 to 20 mg a day, you might see those Pap results start to improve in as little as a month... Just try to stay positive. Don't let the HPV diagnosis stress you out too much; you're going to get through this 😉

Listen, ladies, if you’re currently dealing with HPV... I’m giving you some heartfelt advice based on my own journey: make it your absolute mission to build up and protect your immune system. For about six months, I was drinking liquid aloe vera three times a day—it tastes absolutely revolting, but it’s incredibly potent and it works. I also brewed various homemade herbal teas to detox my system, and of course, I stayed consistent with Nature Made Folic Acid in B-complex tablet form. I was diagnosed with CIN III and had to undergo surgery, but now, a full year later, my Pap smear results are completely clear. I feel fantastic; I can’t even remember the last time I so much as sneezed. The bottom line is that you have to be completely dedicated to your own recovery, because it truly pays off. Good luck, girls!
