Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007)

Robbie, Robbie, what gives? Seriously? Look, House of 1000 Corpses is total garbage. The Devil's Rejects is a slight step up, I guess, but still not scary. Now I'm actually worried about what he did to John Carpenter's Halloween. I read somewhere that Michael Myers killed Dr. Loomis, which makes zero sense since the guy shows up in five out of the eight original movies. He probably could've just taken out Laurie Strode right in the first one. Robbie, man... 🙂 things will get better... 🙂 (not!)

Not sure how you guys feel about his stuff, but for me, 1000 Corpses is way better than Devils Rejects—I actually tapped out halfway through the latter...

Anyway, I respect John Carpenter's work, so I try to check out whatever Zombie puts out... if it looks decent, obviously.

Just finished watching the 2007 Halloween. It actually hit the spot for me—definitely his best work so far, even if it leans more toward a psycho-thriller than pure horror...
What some people were arguing about earlier in this thread is actually where he nailed it—the atmosphere. The movie feels dark because the character's mind is so dark, and he builds that personality really well. I don't remember much of the original besides a few snapshots, but even if you think this is "disrespecting" a legend, the movie holds its own.

If you can push past the bias, you won't regret watching it.

Look, some people just don't get that his movies aren't even meant to be scary—they're supposed to be funny...
I mean, you actually have to understand this specific brand of humor
I love his trashy stuff, and what he's doing now isn't bad at all; it's just that you guys look at trash, slashers, or whatever the hell counts as horror differently

Honestly, I think this remake beats the original hands down. I really don't get why people put that first movie on such high pedestals—like, why is it considered one of the greatest horror films ever made? To me, it’s easily one of the weakest things Carpenter has ever directed. The execution is just... rough. Look, I get that they were working with a shoestring budget, but some of those scenes? A group of middle schoolers with iPhones could have shot them better. And the plot is basically non-existent. I guess the only "hook" they had going for them was setting the whole thing during Halloween.

BTW, John Carpenter's Halloween basically invented the modern slasher genre, which is why it's so famous. As far as the actual film goes, maybe it's a little overrated, but I wouldn't call it bad. The direction is solid, the score is creepy as hell, the killer is terrifying, the acting holds up, and Dr. Loomis rules 🙏 .The story is fine—don't expect any deep philosophical meaning here. Personally, I liked that they kept the killer's backstory vague; it made Michael Myers a much scarier, cooler character. Then, though, they went and ruined it later by adding that stupid subplot about him hunting down family members 😠 .

I just sat through it, and honestly, my initial gut feeling was right: the movie is garbage. The script is brainless. The dialogue is so bad it’s actually funny, and the lack of creativity is insulting—they basically just rip off scenes from the original. The characters? Total trash. Some are just irritating, others are impossible to care about, and half the cast seems to exist solely to be slaughtered. Even the kills aren't satisfying because the camerawork is shaky and distracting. That piece of crap Michael Myers gets way too much screen time, his new look isn't even spooky, and the whole idea of turning him into a Hallmark character is just retarded.
It’s a pathetic remake. It isn't scary, it isn't fun, it's uninspired, and it's incredibly stupid. If they absolutely have to keep messing with this franchise, I’d rather they just shoot Halloween 9 instead of Halloween 2.
