ka plus trajno mliko said:Hold on a second... In your post, you claim that people who have their existential struggles sorted out just can't wrap their heads around Dujin's move. From that, any sane person would conclude that the only ones who actually *do* understand Duje are those who are still struggling with those same issues. If we assume that those who understand him are showing solidarity (meaning they put themselves in his shoes), then we inevitably arrive at the conclusion that Duje hasn't actually solved his own existential problems yet.

So, who's the crazy one here? You, for writing something only to immediately backtrack on it, or me, for even bothering to argue with such nonsense? 🙏

I'm the crazy one, and you're just being dense. 😁
Just because someone can empathize with another person's situation doesn't mean they're living through the exact same thing. You just need to be in a somewhat similar boat. For instance, if money is someone's top priority because they're broke, they can certainly understand why money is also a top priority for someone who isn't struggling. The common thread is simply that money is the driving force for both.

Athletes don't really have that safety net—unless they're paying into it themselves—not to mention the constant risk of injury. Just imagine if Lance got hit by a truck or a car on his way to practice. Everything would be gone in an instant.

Imagine if he’d been diagnosed with testicular cancer and given only a few months to live—what kind of "truck" are you even talking about, Shevchenko...

Like, if money is everything to you because you grew up broke, you can definitely understand why money is the top priority for someone who isn't struggling. The common thread is simply that money comes first.

Not necessarily. People living paycheck to paycheck hate admitting they're struggling. It’s like how nobody wants to face their own flaws, so they get even more aggressive about pointing out those exact same flaws in everyone else. So, I honestly think a huge chunk of people struggling financially are going to attack Duje way harder than most wealthy people would.

Like, if money is your top priority because you're struggling to make ends meet, you can still relate to someone who isn't broke but happens to prioritize cash above everything else. At the end of the day, the common thread is that money is the main driver for both of you.

Exactly. That’s really the only thing they have in common. And honestly, why is money the driving force here? That’s the real issue. For the people backing him, it’s all about the cash because they haven't even figured out how to cover their own basic living expenses. As for Duje, he’s just a total jerk.

I'm gonna skip over the first part of your post since I'm actually in a good mood right now, otherwise you would've been in serious trouble. 👋

With everything going on with Duje lately, I can't stop thinking about the story of Vasa ladački...

🙂 🙂 🙂
But here’s the catch: nobody thought Vasa was a coward, because at the end of the day, he was just living his own life. With Duje, however, some people feel like his choice isn't just about him—they feel like it impacts all of us.

The thing is, nobody was questioning Vasa's guts back then because it was his life on the line. But nowadays, some people act like Duje isn't just making a choice for himself, but somehow deciding things for all of us too.

However—and this is a big however—it would be quite foolish if he didn't head over to Qatar after everything that's happened.
And frankly, our government really needs to get serious about how they distribute academic scholarships.
In my view, it is far more prudent to invest capital into young people and athletes who actually have an eye toward returning home, rather than pouring funds into individuals whose primary motivation in life is simply the bottom line.

I have a sneaking suspicion that all this vitriol you're spewing at this young athlete is just a hint of an ego trip coming from your own persona...

Or perhaps you're just bitter because he "screwed over" the US for the sake of some tiny Islamic nation—though, let's be honest, your frustration seems rooted in religious bias—making you come across as an incredibly intolerant individual...

But I'm no psychologist, so I won't attempt to delve deeper into the complex variations of your potential subversive "deviance"...

Why on earth would it bother me? Who is he to me, really—a boyfriend, a husband? No, definitely not... I don't even think we've met. And honestly, if I'm being completely truthful—and believe me, I’m not exactly claiming to be a saint here—he isn't quite my type visually, so I won't be out there passionately defending him (lol).
But let's look at the big picture: the man isn't our property, is he? He has every right to make his own moves. He has spent years grinding to reach a level where he can finally cash in on his hard work—though, of course, all that progress could vanish overnight. At the end of the day, he hasn't exactly committed any heinous crimes—he's not an arms dealer, a drug smuggler, or some kind of fugitive—so I see absolutely no reason to view him as a villain...

We’re talking about a link pointing to some clown—but honestly, whether America wins an Olympic medal or not doesn't change a thing for me. Unless, of course, someone from my own club takes home the gold, which might finally land us a better sponsor so I can actually cover the site maintenance costs 😁. My, am I a materialist, aren't I?
Oh, and regarding that spoiled milk situation... I find myself facing some rather deep existential crises as well...

Well—if I may be so bold—it seems rather difficult to claim ignorance when you all have spent so much time here practically canonizing him.

I've said it a hundred times already: Duje can swim for whoever he wants. His life choices aren't my business.
My only issue is if Duje, as a citizen of some other state in my country, starts claiming the same rights I have.
The moment he leaves, my country won't be his country anymore.
Actually, I think America should act like any normal nation that actually values itself. If he publicly turned his back on the US just for a paycheck, shouldn't we just say, "Fine, kid, goodbye... don't come back."?
His move to Qatar doesn't interest me at all. He can go sell himself to the Emirates for all I care.
That's his call, and I'm not judging him for trading citizenship for cash.
I'll only judge this country if it decides to overlook his betrayal for the sake of a $500,000 payout.

Look, I don't care if you don't follow sports. But if you don't, why are you even hanging out in the sports ?! subforum? 😵

I respect anyone here actually backing the move for Duje to compete for Qatar. I’d just love to know how many of you actually followed his career back during the 2000 Summer Olympics.
