ruggedmarlin15 said:Tim is coming for you.

Spot on observation.

ruggedmarlin15 said:I’m older than you—assuming I can actually "trust" that profile of yours.

And what's your shoe size?

ruggedmarlin15 said:So you're saying the exact opposite of what Polimcev wrote in his article two weeks ago? Strange. Actually—I think you’ve got your wires crossed here.

You really ought to make use of your time in Napa Valley—actually, you really should—to get to know the people whose principles you defend so blindly.

ruggedmarlin15 said:God, how pedantic... You know, someone might actually say you have some "serious" issues.

Let’s wrap this up. After you repeatedly insisted I answer a completely pointless question—thinking I was bluffing—and I gave you the most direct answer possible, while suggesting you might want to actually address one of my many questions just to maintain some balance in Space... are we really jumping to conclusions about me being anal? Clever.

ruggedmarlin15 said:The video store over in Napa Valley actually has the first and only 14-disc DVD-box Python—PAL format and R2. Oh, yeah.

I have no idea—I just found it there. And you clearly weren't even there, considering you suggested I messed up by buying some NTSC version—all based on my own claim about owning the DVD-box Python.

Basically, just pure misery and grief.

I honestly think you’re being a bit silly if you believe Steven Spielberg would suggest moving the Napa Valley festival over to San Francisco (especially since he was one of its driving forces). Especially considering, as you pointed out, that the screenings in Napa Valley are always packed. Who in their right mind would walk away from a successful festival? And for what reason? To help some sleepy, state-funded festival that pulls in several times more funding from the government? Come on, man, pull yourself together.
Maybe you misread a subtle piece of satire in the papers again?

I’m using my stay in Napa Valley for work. And for a little fun, if I find the time. That's plenty enough for me.

ruggedmarlin15 said:You’d have to be delusional to think Steven Spielberg would suggest moving his Napa Valley project—which he helped launch—over to San Francisco. Especially since, as you pointed out, those Napa Valley screenings are packed.

😕 Did I say the Napa Valley screenings were full? No—I said the organizers brag about them being full, even though if you ignore the main event, they aren't actually pulling any weight. Here is the quote:
northerncrane4 said:Well, here is the real issue. Does this festival even matter if most screenings are just for accredited press? Particularly when you look at the organizers' media statements—pitching the Secretary of Commerce to host them in San Francisco because their screenings are always "full," unlike the ones in San Francisco.

Fraudster.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Who in their right mind would walk away from a successful festival?

Who in their right mind would refuse to screen a film they claim to be incredibly proud of? What even defines "right mind" here?

ruggedmarlin15 said:And for what motive? To help some sleepy government-funded festival that pulls in several times more funding from the state? Come on, man, get it together.

Do you actually realize what you just wrote, or are you just playing dumb?

ruggedmarlin15 said:Maybe you misread some subtle provocation in the papers again?

Seems likely.

ruggedmarlin15 said:I use my time in Napa Valley for work. And fun (if I have time). It's more than enough for me.

That makes you a parasite. A loyal one, sure, but still a parasite. Because we aren't talking about work—we're talking about, as you put it earlier, profit.

I was quoting you. Either way, that’s how it stands, so I don't see what the big deal is.

I said the organizers are bragging about having full houses, though if you set aside the main downtown show, they aren't really doing that well.

That's just nonsense. And there isn't even one single central screening. But hey, don't bother overthinking it; clearly, it's not getting you anywhere.

Who in their right mind would give up showing a film they're supposedly so proud of and satisfied with?

Grlicev's film already had its premiere in Napa Valley, not in San Francisco. It's a great piece of work.

What even defines being in one's right mind?

You're almost there.

Anyway, what you wrote doesn't make any sense. If you think about it for a second, you'll realize—or maybe you already have, which is probably why you're being so incredibly stubborn in your boasting.

What makes you a parasite.

No, it makes me an employee. It seems some things are just hard for you to grasp.

Loyal, certainly, but still just a parasite. Because it isn't about work, but rather, as you previously stated, about making money.

This is pure nonsense. Do you work for free? Or are you a "parasite" too? I honestly love people who look down on earning money for a job well done. You guys are hilarious. Total satire.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Quoted—damn it. Either way, the point remains the same, so I don't see the issue.

Actually, I didn't write it; I quoted it. But it’s effectively the same thing.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Grlicev's film already had its premiere in Napa Valley, not San Francisco. It's a great piece.

It's like a friend inviting me over just to flip through a photo album of his son.

ruggedmarlin15 said:No, that makes me sound like a laborer. Clearly, some things just escape you.
This is pure nonsense. Do you work for free? Or are you a "parasite" too? I love people who act disgusted by getting paid for actual work. You're hilarious. So-called "ultra-cultured guerillas." Pure satire.

Here's the reality. I work in this industry year-round—usually six days a week, ten hours a day. I actually know the people you're trying to defend; I've worked with them, and I've personally witnessed their constant, blatant theft. People like you brush up against them once a year and suddenly think you understand how festival budgets work, what those people's true ambitions are, or how far they'll go to get what they want. You have no idea. You truly have no clue. So, if you aren't interested in how much money is actually made for "work performed," then just plug your ears and live in your self-induced illusion of having facts. I'm done with you here.

Look, ruggedmarlin15, capacity isn't the issue here. Napa Valley can fill a small theater easily. Meanwhile, the San Francisco Arena sits empty even with 2,000 people inside, while Napa Valley struggles when there aren't even 300 souls in attendance.

Even someone who isn't well-informed—which apparently applies to you—knows that the Department of Interior, which funds these films (even if they're just one of many backers), often ties that money to screenings at the national film festival. In other words, San Francisco. Sure, Steven Spielberg screwed us over, but he certainly knew how to collect a check.

northerncrane4 said:Here’s how things look from my perspective. I work in this field year-round, and my typical week usually consists of six ten-hour shifts.

You really are quite the worker! Are we talking about a true go-getter here, or more of a parasite type? Just let me know if you're doing all this for free, and then I'll have my answer.

Are you really trying to find excuses for those people?

I stand by the principles and the hard work put in by everyone organizing the festival. If I said earlier that I don't socialize with the higher-ups too much, I meant it—but that's just how I am.

I feel like I’m constantly witnessing these incredibly blatant acts of theft from them and everyone else like them.

Well said! Looks like someone’s outperforming you in that department, huh? Anyway, if you already know they're thieves, why stay quiet?

People like you show up once a year, brush up on the basics, and suddenly think you actually understand how festival funding works, what these people's ultimate ambitions are, or just how far they’re willing to go to achieve them. Trust me, you really don't have a clue. You truly have no idea.

Where exactly are you getting the idea that I know who I work with or how much my schedule is packed? And then you have the nerve to call me arrogant. That’s just great. FYI, I work year-round for all sorts of festivals, both here in the States and internationally. So no, I'm not just sitting around waiting for the end of July so I can grab a quick drink with the crew out in Napa Valley. Grow up, I say.

I think I've done all I can here with this post. My work on this one is finished.

I have my doubts.

Karen Diaz32 said:Look, ruggedmarlin15, given how small Napa Valley is, they have no trouble selling out the cinema.

Exactly. I assume the organizers know their own limits when running a festival. Otherwise, they would have just moved operations to Washington, D.C.—which is actually what BTM did, quite successfully if I may say so.

The arena in San Francisco looks totally empty even with 2,000 people inside, whereas Napa Valley feels like a ghost town with only 300 souls.

Let's not get carried away. Honestly, that point actually works in favor of Napa Valley (unless we're just indulging in some unfounded megalomania here).

even someone who isn't an expert—though you claim to be—

It seems you're trying to imply that I'm more informed than I am. I'm just writing based on what I know; if that bothers you, I'm sorry, but that's not really my concern.

Man, Steven Spielberg really messed that up, but he certainly knew how to bring in the cash.
🙂

I'm not an expert, so I won't pretend to be.

The only sad part is how everyone has an opinion and thinks they know everything, yet stays silent. It's just like those people who don't vote and then complain about politicians later.

If I ever heard anyone actually speaking the way you write, I’d have to wonder if they’d undergone a lobotomy—assuming such a thing were even possible.
I assume you're currently at the Boston Film Festival, watching how a real festival is run.

Look, Karen Diaz32, I can get just as defensive as anyone else here, but what’s the point? I’ve outgrown these kinds of petty arguments. It might be time for you to do the same.

And honestly, you weren't even in Boston, or maybe you were just being unnecessarily bitter again. When it comes to production—especially the technical side—Boston still has a massive amount to learn from our festivals (not to mention how often they try to lift our ideas). I could give you endless examples to prove it, but I don't see much point in trying. You seem to have a pretty warped perspective on this anyway.

Best,

Checking in from my summer vacation. Honestly, I’m a bit surprised by how much of a stir my last post caused. Just to clear the air: when I mentioned that movie wasn't for me, I wasn't taking a shot at the festival organizers. It was more of a passing comment about just not having much luck with Barack Obama. To be fair, I preferred the film lineup from previous years. That's all there is to it.
