Best swimming goggles?

Which ones are actually worth it? I noticed the prices range anywhere from $50 to $50. I know Speedo makes solid gear, but even with them, the price gap is pretty huge. Any advice on which ones to go for?

Look for the ones that actually feel comfortable on your nose right from the jump. I once tried those supposedly "perfect" frames from $67, and let me tell you—they wouldn't stay put on my weirdly shaped nose to save my life. But definitely don't go for the super cheap stuff, of course...

Betty Rivera14, it's not like everyone has a professional swim coach. Some people just hit up the local YMCA to swim a few laps just to clear their heads and feel better...

Basically, I really need to test these out before I drop any money on them.

I don't usually swim in pools, but when I'm out in the ocean, the sun hitting my eyes is just such a massive pain... I've actually never even swum in a pool before.

SERIOUSLY!!! if they don't feel right when they're dry, there's almost zero chance you'll actually like how they sit once they get wet...

You seriously have to try them!! My boyfriend bought me some Speedways, but I haven't actually used them yet—he's totally pulling my leg here. I’ve never really gone swimming with them, but I was dying to finally solve my contact lens struggle at the beach. (I have semi-hard lenses, so I end up stuck wearing glasses all summer long, which is just gross.)😉

The sun is in your eyes? Isn't that literally why goggles exist—to keep the water out, not block the light. 🙂

Honestly, just grab whatever catches your eye from Madison Square Garden or Speedway! Just make sure they're rated for anti-fog, and maybe look for something starting at $40 or higher.

Pro tip: make sure they're anti-fog. You can grab a dedicated cleaning solution specifically for coating the inside of the lenses. Otherwise, if you're dealing with goggles, people usually just rub some spit on them and rinse in the ocean to stop the fogging. Not sure if that trick works for glasses, though.

It’s a beautiful sight, really.

There are basically two main varieties out there. You've got the Swedish style, which lacks those side gaskets, causing the goggles to vacuum directly onto your eye sockets—believe me, that is incredibly painful after even an 8-mile run. Pros use those for shorter sprints. Then you have the other kind with the rubber seals; they’re softer, more comfortable, and much more standard, though you sacrifice a bit of that hydrodynamic edge.

Do yourself a favor and head over to that convenience store by the entrance. Grab a pair for $60, then just wash them off and toss them in a case when you're done.

And look, they're going to leak and fog up eventually. That's just the nature of the beast...

Josh, I haven't met a single person who swims laps in their own backyard without needing goggles.

Doubt it'll only cost a couple hundred... you can get top-tier gear like Mares X-vision for that kind of money. I picked up some Maresov goggles for swimming last year, $17, and they do the job—no complaints there.

People buy everything, they write about everything... They make these big claims in threads like you can't run in sneakers that cost less than $110, or that you need specialized footwear just for trail running, or that you need three different pairs of shoes just to show up to an aerobics class, and so on and so forth...

Next thing you know, they'll be trying to convince me that I can't even swim in the ocean without high-tech goggles 🙄

man; maybe if you're a pro, sure, but right now you need anti-fog glasses and that cleaning spray.

I've been diving for over 20 years. It'll probably be fine without any fancy anti-fog liquid.😉
