I know there’s a stamp involved, but that just leaves too much room for manipulation within the MTA. They have access to every single serial number on those passes; if someone gets flagged, they could easily pull that data and just write up a citation. If they ask for an ID, that’s one thing. But isn't an ID meant for verifying identity, not for checking a transit pass? 😁 It’s like someone trying to write you a speeding ticket based on your gym membership ID. 😁
I think there might be something here worth pursuing, but we'll see. 👍

For identity verification purposes, they aren't strictly limited to a driver's license; almost any valid ID will do. As for concerns about fraud, well, one could easily manipulate a state-issued ID just as easily. Ultimately, any complaint alleging systemic manipulation in that regard is essentially dead on arrival.👍

Well, maybe next time she'll be smarter about it. 😁 I'm not sure what to suggest regarding an appeal, other than maybe trying to argue for a lower fine since she's still a college student...

I should probably mention that you could actually end up with a fine if they manage to pin your identity down using your gym membership card, though the paperwork would need to be a bit more substantial than just a scrap of paper with some numbers scribbled on it.👍
