A buddy mentioned that this whole situation with The Ramones reminds him of what happened to The Cure... honestly, I was pretty floored when he said that. Even more so after thinking about it.
It’s heavy stuff.

Even ten years after they called it quits, it’s like almost the entire band just vanished off the face of the earth.
All that’s left is the music and the memories...

It's haunting...😢

Did you catch that news anchor on the nightly broadcast? Apparently, Johnny from The Ramones has passed away.👎

I’d laugh if it wasn't so depressing. 😢

Cold sweet death, one last caress...

(yeah, they aren't The Ramones, but that's the first thing that popped into my head)

I wouldn't call myself a huge fan, but I definitely raised an eyebrow at this.

What a waste.

For twenty-two years nobody gave them the time of day, but now that they’ve finally scored an award (and actually moved some records), they’re nowhere to be found.
It’s such a shame 😢

brighthawk20 said:That '90 Ramones concert at Madison Square Garden in front of 16,000 people (!!!) was easily one of the most legendary shows in New York City history. Even The Ramones themselves called it their absolute favorite stop on the whole tour.

Trying to track down that show on VHS is basically like finding a cure for AIDS....

Goodbye, Johnny...😢 😢 😢

GABBA GABBA HEY!

If The Ramones actually thought that show was their best one, then that entire tour must have been total garbage. They wouldn't even come out for an encore, and they were losing their minds on stage because of all the firecrackers.

16,000 people? Yeah, right...

Even The Ramones totally bombed halfway through the set..

Still, they’re my go-to listen to this day. Whether I'm chilling in my room or hitting the gas in my car to the beat. I even head down to the local clubs for listening sessions or whenever someone organizes a "Tribute night." Guess we'll see if another Tribute night concert pops up soon.

I caught the second New York City show, and it was great.

What a joke. 😢

I’m not really following you here. What "recognition" are we talking about? And what do you mean nobody cared about them?!

Give me some more context.

If anyone happens to have missed out on hearing the letter from Motörhead, you really ought to track it down—it’s an absolute must. It’s probably the single best piece of writing that truly captures who they were.
Goodbye, Johnny!!!

ironcobra27 said:I didn't really catch what you were getting at. What kind of recognition? Like, nobody actually screwed them over?!

Come on, elaborate a little here.

By recognition, I mean things like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or how Spin Magazine calls them the second most influential band in rock history (right behind The Beatles), not to mention all the tribute acts...
So, we're talking about validation from the "American mainstream," which basically ignored them for years.

As for nobody screwing them over—I'm talking about the total lack of airplay on US radio stations and TV. Because look, even though the Ramones are absolute legends of the American underground, the truth is that once they realized they could actually play and string a few songs together, they saw themselves as future rock superstars—kind of like the Rolling Stones or The Who. They even joked that their competition was the Bay City Rollers! The real issue was just that America wasn't feeling that sound, even though the Ramones (and yeah, us fans) thought it was the ultimate rock—or maybe pop—sound for the end of the century.

What a total bummer. Why, for instance, doesn't Kid Rock just pack it in?

Damn, does that come with a tribute to Rudolf Hess or something? I really hope not.

When I'm Lying
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How

How are you even supposed to navigate this foggy mess of a world where
everything is constantly shifting underneath your feet?
Honestly makes me wish I could just be a dog and call it a day.

Looking at the heavy price you had to pay,
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How
I never want to end up like that, seriously.
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How

It feels like people just morph into these versions of themselves
that they never actually wanted to become in the first place, right?
The only thing that really matters is living for today...

I feel like just smashing my TV screen with a hammer,
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How
open up The medicina chest
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How

I don't want to have to scream it from the rooftops,
I don't want to deal with my hair thinning out,
I don't want to be drowning in uncertainty,
and I sure as hell don't want to be some perfect little Boy Scout.
i don't wanna have to learn to count i don't wanna have The biggest amount i don't wanna grow up Well When i see my parents fight i don't wanna grow up They All go out and drinkin
i don't wanna have to learn to count i don't wanna have The biggest amount i don't wanna grow up Well When i see my parents fight i don't wanna grow up They All go out and drinkin
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How

Yeah, watching my parents tear into each other,
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How
they just head out to spend the whole night drinking,
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How

I'd rather stay here in my room Nothin ' out There but sad and gloom i don't wanna Live in a Big Old tomb on Grand street When i see The 5 o'clock News i don't wanna grow up Comb their hair and Shine their shoes i don't wanna grow up Stay around in my Old hometown i don't wanna put no money down i don't wanna get a Big Old loan work them fingers to The bon i don't wanna float on a broom fall in Love
There's nothing out there but misery and darkness anyway,
I'd rather not end up stuck in some massive, lifeless tomb on
Grand Street.
Watching the local evening news,
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How
having to fix their hair and polish their shoes,
Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How

Just staying put in my old hometown,
not wanting to drop a dime on anything,
avoiding those massive bank loans,
working myself to death, finger by finger,
not wanting to fly off on some broomstick,
falling in love, getting hitched, and then—boom—it's over.
How does life even move this fast?

Nothing ever seems to turn out right i don't wanna grow up How

So, this past Friday, things got a little intense... they released the Spot Cemetery music video. My friend and I were feeling pretty great about it since they finally dropped the new Ramones video, so we sat down to watch. We're watching the clip, and then suddenly, at the very end, there’s this funeral scene. I mean, I get it—it fits the vibe of the song—but honestly, what the hell? It looks like someone actually passed away, and they just decide to drop a video like that? 🙄 :🙂

I was wondering if any of you caught anything about Johnny Ramone or The Ramones in the papers you've been reading since he passed? I picked up a copy of The New York Times this morning, and honestly, I’m just so stoked they actually gave them cover story treatment! I did a quick skim through The Washington Post and The New York Post too, but I didn't see much worth noting in those—just kind of rushed past them.🙂

Washington Post A. Dragas wrote a piece, there was stuff in The New York Post, and today even Dave Marsh has something in The Daily News.
