Looney Tunes: Back in Action

I can’t seem to find the right thread for this, and honestly, it blows my mind that nobody else has brought up this movie yet. Joe Dante is still absolutely killing it—this marks his tenth collaboration with Jerry Goldsmith, after all. It’s such a sharp satire of Hollywood, packed with gags hitting you every single second... basically just pure, chaotic fun. Is it just me, or did nobody actually enjoy this one?

Absolute madness! Look, it might not hit the heights of Gremlin, but it’s still way above your average flick. Honestly, the jokes fly so fast—you can barely finish laughing at one before the next one hits you. There’s even that bit where the plane is plummeting, runs out of fuel right before impact, and just... stops. Anyway, it’s definitely worth a watch! I'll probably have to revisit it just to catch all the bits I missed. It really baffles me how poorly it performed at the box office; it’s such a shame today's generation doesn't seem to vibe with Joe Dante.

What’s actually so great about it? Honestly, when I heard they were making another animated film featuring those Warner Bros. characters, I was pretty skeptical. I watched Space Jam, and it was... just okay. There were a few decent jokes here and there, but nothing particularly special.

It’s legitimately great. I’ve seen it twice now and laughed my head off both times.

Space Jam isn't even in the same league as this movie. It’s honestly so good that even that awful dharma didn't manage to ruin it. Joe Dante rules 👍

Is it even a movie? I wasn't really planning on seeing this, but once I realized it was a Joe Dante flick, I got hyped and dragged a few people along to the theater... Honestly, I probably had more fun than they did. The best part has to be when they're plummeting toward the ground (right before they run out of gas) and Donald Duck pulls out his cell phone to call his agent: "Quick, dump all the Warner Bros. stock. Bugs Bunny is gonna die!" 😁

So, I rewatched it over the weekend and honestly, I was cracking up all over again—especially that part where Bugs Bunny and 8ball go at it like they're in Star Wars, only for the rabbit to pull out "The Force for Dummies." 😂

I don't know, I didn't find it all that funny, personally. It was maybe a 6/10 for me, but that’s just how I felt about it, I guess.

Is this actually hitting theaters or what?
Right now, the local cinema only has Harry Potter playing, and there isn't anything else on the schedule...🙄

I was honestly just going to drop a comment about how I hope they made Chuck Jones a comfortable, rotating recliner so he can spin around peacefully in his grave. But now that you’ve brought up Joe Dante, I’m actually feeling a little bit conflicted. Still, I was definitely looking forward to seeing that on TV. 😛

The movie is great👍! A few scenes actually got a laugh out of me...
Most of you have already covered everything worth saying about this one, so I won't bore you with extra commentary. It does feature some parody moments (like that bit with Finding Nemo😬)

My favorite part was when Bugs Bunny cooks eggs on Donald Duck's beak in the desert!😁 😁

I finally sat down to watch it today—it’s actually quite good, better than I expected, even. I've always been a fan of Joe Dante; it feels like a bit of an injustice that he hasn't received as much credit as directors like Robert Zemeckis, who often seem to get the lion's share of the spotlight.

I thought the movie was terrible. Dante stumbled hard after Gremlin 2 and hasn't found his footing since—it's been a downward slide. Zemeckis did a much better job with Roger Rabbit.

I have always been drawn to the anarchic energy in Dante's work; by contrast, I’ve often found Zemeckis's style to be somewhat crude and overly sterile, even if I hold the Back to the Future trilogy quite dear.
Take a look at Matinee and Second Civil War, and you might find that Dante hasn't actually lost his edge entirely. While they may not reach the heights of Howling, Gremlin, or The Burbs, they certainly remain worth your time.

Even Inner Space isn't a total loss. I’ve always had a soft spot for Zemeckis—mostly because of Roger Rabbit. There’s a certain technical mastery in his work that I respect, mixed with this underlying sense of childlike wonder. Out of all the directors mentored by Spielberg, he’s definitely my favorite.😁😁😁
