Alright... the only issue is the rules. I think I'll just dive in and start playing.

Fair enough. I'm watching them now. Is the gear expensive? If anyone knows... I was looking at balls around $67 and nothing beats what they have there. Where can I get a decent ball without getting ripped off?

The ball is the least of our worries; the protective gear costs an absolute fortune. To start out, if you're just playing flag football, it isn't quite as pricey. 😁

Is there actually a big difference? And can I get all the gear for about $500

I don't know much about current prices, but shoulder pads should run you about $100, helmets will be at least double that, and you can find cleats pretty much anywhere. You'll need an oversized jersey because there's no way you're pulling it over those pads. Since American football isn't exactly huge here, finding used gear is going to be tough, and I have no clue where they even sell the new stuff locally. Your best bet is probably just ordering through eBay or something... 🙂

So it's an expensive sport. I heard some clubs rent out gear, but I don't know if that's actually worth it. I'll figure it out. Thanks.

Greetings everyone. I am a newcomer to this forum and have a few questions regarding American football... I am wondering if there is a club in Washington, D.C. where I might begin coaching? My dilemma is that I am 22 years old and have never coached before; I used to participate in other sports, but I stopped and have let myself go a bit, so I am not exactly in peak physical condition...

I've heard of those teams, but they even seem to have some American players and maybe an American coach too... so I get the feeling these are clubs that wouldn't even consider someone like me who has never played before...🤷

Why on earth do all these American football clubs here have names in English?

Turns out it’s not just an American thing, either—it's happening in Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, and probably pretty much everywhere else on the planet.
Anyone actually know why we do this?

I guess nothing's stopping them from using American terms, but this way just sounds more authentic to the sport's roots.

It feels a little off to me, honestly, though I wouldn't be surprised if there’s some shady sponsorship or funding driving things from behind the scenes in the USA.

Honestly, the New England Patriots have no clue how to handle a heavy-hitting draft class from the USA 🤣 Like Thorin said, this is American sports through and through, so people just stick to naming clubs "the American way." You see it all the time in Major League Soccer too, where teams are starting to pivot toward those European-style names instead.

And here I was, actually thinking maybe Belichick was just cutting him checks behind the scenes 🤷

But honestly, every sport traces its roots back to some specific home country, so I haven't really noticed other sports using their origin language for team names.
