That one bland blue guy who’s somehow everywhere lately—I can't even wrap my head around his name right now... plus about 500 other actors that aren't even worth the breath it takes to list them...

And don't even get me started on the rest of them—Will Ferrell, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Blake Lively, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale...

I'm with you on Ashton, even if he does pick some seriously dumb movies to star in...

I've heard of Blake, and I know what she looks like, but honestly, I have zero clue who she actually is...

Not sure about Will. He's not really on my radar, but for those mindless comedies, he's alright. Can be pretty solid sometimes.

In my estimation—and I do say this with the utmost sincerity—the most underwhelming actress to grace our television screens since the era of Madonna has to be Jennifer Lopez. It is truly a baffling paradox, if you ask me; an individual who possesses neither the vocal prowess of a singer nor the dramatic depth of an actor, yet somehow commands such massive popularity—it feels like a profound injustice to the craft itself.

I wouldn't even call her an actress, honestly. She’s basically just a mid-tier dancer, but hey, she’s got the rhythm and the look, I guess...

First off—this whole thread feels like it’s missing the point. Honestly, it would have been way more interesting if you guys had picked great actors who just happened to end up in terrible movies. Because this list...

David Spade, Adam Sandler, Ashton Kutcher, Will Ferrell... we’re basically looking at a lineup of comedians who pretty much specialize in making mindless junk. Like, Spade doesn't really do "serious," Sandler was actually stellar in Punch-Drunk Love, Kutcher wasn't half bad in Steve Jobs, and Will Ferrell doesn't exactly have a catalog of dramatic roles. 🤷 It makes you wonder what kind of actors they’d actually be if they stepped out of their comfort zones or worked with a legit, talented director for once. Take Cameron Diaz—she basically saved Arnold Schwarzenegger from a role so wooden it could've been used for firewood, turning it into a career highlight. Or look at Robin Williams, who practically walked up and grabbed an Oscar once he got a real serious part. Even Jim Carrey absolutely crushed it in The Show. Then you’ve got the crew that actually knows how to act—guys like Eric Roberts, Michael Madsen, and Nicolas Cage—but they clearly couldn't care less because they just jump into these total disasters, grab the paycheck, and call it a day.

You really have to check out Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction...

I actually avoided this movie for the longest time just because of him, but man, he delivers such a genuinely serious performance here...

Nicolas Cage is absolutely brilliant in Lord of War.

I have to agree with briskhound2, though—it really all comes down to the type of movie he's in, the overall vibe, and who is behind the camera...

He’s solid there, but he’s also great in Everything Must Go. He definitely knows how to deliver when the opportunity arises. It’s similar to Adam Sandler—he was fantastic in Punch-Drunk Love and Funny People.

Anyway, this thread seems to be pulling in names like Naomi Watts, Robert De Niro, or Nicolas Cage based on some recent flops, completely ignoring the fact that their filmographies are packed with top-tier performances.

Richard Barrett53 said:Kristen Stewart—I suppose I mistakenly assumed her talent was tied specifically to Twilight, but she doesn't seem to offer much more than that, either.

If there were a blacklist of people banned from acting for life, she and her guy would be right at the top. Honestly, what a joke.

It’s Brad Pitt for me, hands down.

He mentioned before that he used to smoke obsessively, so maybe that’s why he carries this goofy, half-baked smirk through almost all his roles.
Basically, the guy can tank any movie just by being in it.

I actually sat through "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" because a few people on here recommended it.
Man. It was so bad it was practically a comedy. There’s this one specific scene stuck in my head where Ford and his brother are
trying to hash things out, whispering to each other, when suddenly Pitt storms in. He starts yelling at them, but he looks like he’s about to burst out laughing at any second.🙂
That’s how he comes across in most of his movies.
And don't even get me started on Meet Joe Black.

It seems many people here tend to label Will Ferrell as a subpar actor—which is quite a leap, if you ask me—but personally, I find him to be incredibly solid in plenty of his comedies.

I'm not exactly the type to obsess over Brad Pitt, and while the ones you mentioned—Seed of Evil and Meet Joe Black—aren't terrible, he’s actually solid in way more films. You should check out something like Legend of Autumn, Seven, Seven Years in Tibet, Interview with a Vampire, or that one with Benjamin Bratt.

The X Factor vibe.

Even Leonardo DiCaprio used to struggle with that whole "boyish face" thing—at least in some of his movies—but man, things have definitely changed now.

Wait, so what—comedians aren't actors now? The issue with Spade and Sandler is that they play the exact same character in every single movie; I'd honestly think I was watching the same film twice. And sure, Carrey does some stupid comedies, but at least he can actually play different characters. Will Ferrell isn't bad, his sense of humor is just weird for my taste. As for Kutcher—I'd say the guy can't really move past playing Michael Kelse. For me, a comedian who is actually fantastic is Ricky Gervais. I remember when I first watched the BBC version of The Office, I genuinely thought it was a documentary and was just sitting there thinking, "Wow, what an absolute idiot for a boss"😁.
And Ben Stiller mostly does comedies too, but he’s more than watchable and pretty solid (all those hits like There's Something About Mary, Zoolander, Dodgeball...). Not to mention the late Nielsen (who played similar roles by chance) and Candy. Unlike the first group I mentioned, the others can actually make me laugh (even Sacha Baron Cohen 😁), and isn't that the whole point of comedy?

Personally, I’ve just never been able to connect with Gwyneth Paltrow—it seems like every time I sit down for one of her movies, the performance is exactly the same.🤷 Perhaps I simply haven't picked out the right ones?☕

Mel Gibson is a great actor? Leonardo DiCaprio? Please.

Now, Nicolas Cage is easily one of the most incredible actors of the last twenty years. He has one of the most impressive filmographies out there, and he’s one of those rare talents who can carry over twenty stellar movies almost entirely on his own, constantly elevating the material to a whole new level.
Lately, Cage has been picking at some questionable projects, but even in those, his performance remains solid.

Honestly, the main reason people group these three together and call them bad actors is usually just because they don't like their faces.

I mean, how can you even tell if someone’s a good or bad actor if they just stick to comedy? To actually make a call like that, you really need a decent sample size—you can't just judge them based on one side of their talent...

Even Jim Carrey has some pretty mindless comedies, so he's capable of playing different characters.

Jim Carrey basically plays the exact same guy in every single movie—well, except for his later stuff where he toned down the facial contortions a bit—only the names change...

Unlike the ones mentioned before, the others actually make me laugh (even Sacha Baron Cohen 😁), and isn't that the whole point of comedy?

Sure, they're funny. Nobody's saying they aren't great comedians. But as actors... you've gotta nail like ten serious roles first, jump through different genres, and then we can finally see if you actually have acting chops or not...

Well, I have to disagree. People are just USED to seeing Sandler, Carrey, and those types of folks in mindless comedies playing the exact same characters over and over. The second they film something DIFFERENT from what we're ACCUSTOMED to, everyone immediately goes, "Wow, look how versatile he is!" or "Look how good he can actually act!" This line of thinking follows that typical Hollywood Oscar logic, where a DIFFERENT role automatically lands a star an Oscar nomination. And if they play someone with a disability? Success is basically guaranteed.
In short, Sandler, Carrey, and the rest are ACTORS—meaning, by default, they are professionals capable of performing (or at least should be) DIFFERENT types of roles. When they finally do, people act like it’s some sort of miracle.

I don't think any of these actors are actually terrible; they just pick some truly questionable roles sometimes. Plus, let’s be honest, a lot of it falls on the director—how much creative freedom they give you or how they want a specific character portrayed🤷 can make or break a performance. I've seen that happen with American actors too.
A few of these A-listers have basically built careers out of goofy comedies and sugary rom-coms, but that doesn't mean they lack talent...☕
Then there are the ones who were just straight-up catastrophic. I've heard people say you can't help but laugh when watching them, though I can't quite put my finger on which ones right now.🙂🙂 They were honestly so forgettable that they slipped right out of my mind.😁😁

Reese Witherspoon - I just can't stand her. She’s such a boring actress, and for some reason, I just can't get into anything she does. Beyond her, my go-to picks are pretty standard; Sandler, Kutcher, Kristen Stewart... those are the names that immediately come to mind, though I could probably dig up a few more if I actually bothered to think about it.

As for Nicolas Cage, I think he's actually a really solid actor, but lately, his role selection has been absolute garbage. Ghost Rider, Drive Angry.... REALLY? He was killing it back in the 90s with action classics like The Rock, Con Air, and stuff like that, but now he's just picking up straight trash. I still believe he's got it in him when he actually tries, though—just look at Lord of War.
