So, here’s the situation. If anyone happens to know what I could actually do with this rig—or how to go about it—I'm all ears:

MBO XFX780i
CPU Intel Core i7
RAM Crucial Ballistix 2x2GB 800MHz
Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, GDDR3 896MB
Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 Big Tower
Blue Storm 550W PSU

I have no idea what the BIOS options look like, but I am certain that processor will hit 3.0 GHz on this build without breaking a sweat.

I honestly have to wonder, why are you even bothering to respond to him at all?

Got Power Saving Mode and SpeedStep on, which is why CPU-Z shows a x6 multiplier.
If I actually felt like messing around with memory timings or the Intel, I might try pushing it a bit higher.😁RAM.

@Jason Chase10 😕

Hmm...

Managed to bump it up to 3.15GHz (450×7), but it crapped out after 4 hours, so I dialed it back to a safe ~3GHz (425×7). Memory is running sync at 850MHz.
Kinda wild that when core voltage was set to Auto, it was sitting at a massive 1.52V! Once I manually set it to 1.35V in the BIOS, it dropped down to 1.27V.
Pretty weird stuff!

I've run into a bit of a snag while trying to overclock. My multiplier is stuck on auto and won't let me budge it,
as soon as I try to change it, the whole thing just crashes...
Everest shows my multiplier at 11.5x, which isn't actually bad,

but I’m really looking to drop the multiplier a bit and bump up the Intel to squeeze out some extra performance...

Does anyone happen to know how to bypass this lock in the BIOS?? 🤷

Mount Everest shows the multiplier at 11.5x, which isn't terrible,

but I really want to lower the multiplier slightly and bump up the Intel a bit more to squeeze out some extra performance..

Does anyone happen to know how I can bypass this lock in my BIOS??🤷

Try setting the PCI clock to 100, lowering the memory multiplier, and increasing the CPU voltage🤷 just take it one step at a time...

So I've got this Sempron 2200 running at 1500MHz and I'm wondering if there's any way to crank up the speed? Tried messing with the BIOS, but the multiplier is totally locked

Anyone got any ideas? Help a guy out 😁

Since the multiplier is locked, you aren't going to be able to change it without some serious CPU modding—which, honestly, isn't really an option for most people. I guess your only real move left is bumping up the Intel.

Go ahead and run Mount Everest, then let us know what else you're running in that rig. It’ll lay everything out for you if you aren't sure.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

1. What kind of MSI Motherboard are you rocking?
2. What's your RAM situation—what type and how much total capacity?
3. What are you using for a graphics card?

------------

From what I recall, that Sempron 2200 is meant for Socket A.

It's some old ASUS motherboard,1,25 GB of DDR RAM, and yeah, it's an old Socket A-462 setup. Everything in the BIOS under processor settings is just greyed out, so I can't change a damn thing.
I heard something about shorting certain CPU pins to unlock the settings, but I have no clue how to actually pull that off.

I messed up my GPU settings. Can someone tell me if this caused permanent damage? I used MSI Afterburner to overclock it:

Clock speed: 700 MHz (stock) \ 1000 MHz (overclocked)
Shader Speed: 1750 MHz (stock) \ 2000 MHz (overclocked)
Memory: 800 MHz (stock) \ 1000 MHz (overclocked)

Once I applied those clocks, the PC started freezing. Then the screen just went black after a few seconds. I rushed to uninstall MSI Afterburner during boot... had to perform a Hard Reboot twice. Is my card fried now?

P.S.
Don't attack me. I know I shouldn't have touched it. It's like trying to run a marathon without training. (I just wanted Crysis at 60 FPS on high settings)😱

Which graphics card are we talking about here?

If I'm following you correctly, the PC froze and performed a hard reboot on its own. Once you got back into macOS, did you uninstall MSI Afterburner, and now it's causing the system to lock up?

The computer froze on its own, so I performed a hard reboot. When macOS loaded, it froze again, forcing another hard reboot. On the third attempt at loading macOS, I quickly deleted MSI Afterburner. Everything seems fine now; I ran a benchmark in 3DMark and there were no errors. Still, I am concerned because this is a new build—it’s only been a month.

Now my concern is whether those clock speeds caused permanent damage to the GPU.

Hey everyone, good evening!
Quick question—should I be worried about my motherboard hitting 57°C during an Everest run?
Basically, my memory controller is constantly sitting at 30%, while the processor is hovering around 412MHz on the Intel... so now I'm unsure. Everything else in the rig seems fine.

Now I'm wondering if I actually damaged the graphics card by using that clock speed?

It is likely everything is fine.

I have a quick question... should I be concerned that my motherboard temperature is hitting 57°C on Mount Everest?
Specifically, my memory usage is constantly sitting at 30%, while the processor is running at about 412MHz on the Intel... so now I'm unsure. The rest of the components seem to be okay.

That's possible. Try touching the chipset heatsink with your finger and let me know if it feels hot.

Actually, I'm not so sure... looking at this now... I don't know. It feels off. I just opened up the case, and the temperature jumped to 59°. Then there's this other weird thing: Mount Everest says the CPU temp is 27°, but both cores are sitting at 44°. GPU is at 46°, disk is at 29°. These results seem a bit funky—especially that part with the processor...

edit: running Everest version 4.50.1330, ultimate

I am not entirely sure why, but the CPU temperature seems to be reported incorrectly in quite a few instances. It would be much more accurate to monitor the individual cores instead.

Try putting the PC under a heavy load and then check the chipset temperatures.
