Hey guys, I need something beefier than the CNPS7000B3ALCU +
I’m sure the answer is buried somewhere in this forum, but I really don't feel like digging through old threads right now. Basically, does anyone know of a cooler that actually outperforms the one mentioned above?
Liquid cooling is on the table.
Or even a hybrid setup.
Anything else works, just nothing more than $267.
I'm running an amd 2500 at 3200 MHz (1833MHz), which is totally fine for now.
When I push it up to 2500MHz, it stays perfectly stable, but the temps are way too high.
Thanks for the help.

combo air and liquid works too
anything else or a third option, basically just nothing costing more than $267.

Of course there is...

Check out the Thermalright Si-97. It's passive, aluminum, socket A

Just slap a 120mm fan on it (like a Papst or Enermax, etc.), or even two if you want to get crazy😁

That's your $93 + a fan🙂

Does anyone actually know how to overclock a Sempron 2800 +? I’ve been digging through everything but I can't find any mention of a multiplier anywhere... is this thing just locked tight or what?

👍Or maybe if someone could just drop a link to a decent site where I can double-check the specs before I go crazy looking...

Alright, count me in with the overclocking crowd 😁
It’s been a while since I actually messed with clock speeds, so I’m a little out of practice.
Here is my new build
AMD64 3200+ s939 on the stock cooler (BOX)
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D
2x 512MB Kingmax PC-3200
PixelView GeForce 6600 Ultimate 256MB
Enermax EG365AX-VE(G) 350W
Caviar 36,7GB SATA Raptor
Here is the list of stuff I'll be paying off for the next year😁
What's the best way to approach this? Does anyone here own this specific board and could give me some settings that actually work without causing a massive headache?
Here is a review for this motherboard with some decent BIOS screenshots. If you guys are regular overclockers, maybe you could suggest some optimal settings. My last attempt at overclocking was just pushing a Celeron from 700 to 840MHz.😁

Before
amd 2500
epox 8rda3i
512 MB 400 MHz Kingmax

I’ve managed to bump the processor up to a 3200+ (2200 MHz), currently running at 1.7 V. To be perfectly honest, the cooler I'm using is an absolute piece of junk, but despite that, temperatures under full load are hovering around 50°C. It seems the multiplier on the CPU itself is locked, so there isn't much room left to play with; meanwhile, both the motherboard and the memory have hit their ceiling at 400 MHz.
Perhaps I ought to invest in a superior cooling solution. Regardless, just to put things to the test, I ran Prime95 and let it churn away for an entire day—it was Sunday, since this machine stays at my office—and when I finally checked back in, everything was functioning perfectly!

Man, I just can't for the life of me get this stubborn Sempron 2800 + to boot up...
If I had any idea this processor was going to be such absolute garbage, I swear I wouldn't have even touched it in the first place 🙂

A hybrid air/liquid setup would work too.
Or anything else, really—just nothing that exceeds $267.

***** Seriously, what an absolute jerk. You shouldn't even be talking trash here; this place is already small enough without you acting like such a tool.

I'm asking the mods to pull the last post and all those similar provocations. That includes this one too.
thanks

I just upgraded my CPU to a 3200+ (2200 MHz). Voltage is at 1.7 V, and I'm using a cheap stock cooler. Under full load, temps are around 50 C. It looks like the multiplier is locked on the CPU since it won't go higher, and both the motherboard and memory seem capped at 400 MHz.
Maybe I should grab a better cooler. Anyway, I ran Prime95 for a full day just to test it (ran it all Sunday since this is my work PC), and when I got back, everything was fine!

1. Your motherboard is definitely lying about those temps.
2. That RAM can run faster than 400MHz.
3. Try bumping it to 1.8V.
4. The motherboard can also handle more than 200MHz (400MHz), so there's nothing stopping you from pushing further.
Almost all 2500+ chips hit 2.2GHz (3200+) with a slight voltage bump, but anything beyond that requires more juice.

Look, Zalman isn't really built for overclocking...😂

whatever
I slapped a 120mm Thermaltake fan right in front of the Zalman and now it’s running perfectly.
Zalman isn't for overclocking!??! okay whatever

William Kim13 said:So Zalman isn't meant for overclocking? Fine, if you say so.

I actually own one, so I know how it performs firsthand. You can always dig up some online benchmarks to verify, though. A Zalman is great for building a quiet PC with solid performance, but don't expect top-tier extreme cooling. For instance, I’ve used it to cool an Intel Core i7 up to about 3.2 or 3.3 GHz without any issues. Beyond that, it just can't keep up with the heat—and that's using Arctic Silver thermal paste while encoding DivX on a Northwood chip.

Fair point. True. But it gets interesting once you crank those RPMs from 2200 up to 2850. :-)
works for me👍

It's common knowledge that Zalman handles Intel chips better than AMD ones, mostly just because of how the die size works out.

works for me👍

I run mine at full throttle. I actually installed a custom potentiometer because the one included in the box didn't cut it for me. At max speed, it pulls slightly under the full 12V. Just to be clear—don't get me wrong, the potentiometer that comes with the Zalman isn't bad. It’s actually perfect if you want low, quiet speeds. But if you're looking for absolute maximum performance? You won't be satisfied.
From what I can tell, most people get their peak performance out of this cooler using a Cooler Master

P.S. If we take what brightgull15 said into account, then the Zalman definitely isn't built for extreme overclocking, especially on an AMD build.

Well, then that Zalman isn't all that bad.
I'm using a Gigabyte cooler with a 2.6 processor, and I've bumped it up to 3.0 without any issues at all—maxing out at 41°C.
Honestly, I don't think 41°C is bad at all...

The thing is, that Cooler Master isn't built for the Barton core. They'd be better off hunting down a 900U series, some Socket AM2 gear if they can find it, an SI-97, or maybe an SLK947 (and no, I'm not joking)

Can you believe that my Athlon XP is running at a rock-solid 2200 MHz, and I’ve even managed to push it all the way up to 2400 MHz on this Gigabyte Motherboard? It truly is quite remarkable!
