Cele303 said:That Corsair 2x512mb DDR400 XMS CL2 kit is rated $333, meaning at DDR400 speeds, you're looking at 2-2-2-5 timings.

That’s only true if you actually get lucky enough to snag a kit with TCCD chips. If you end up stuck with the promos chips instead, you'll be running at 2.5-3-3-6 1T when you hit DDR400.😉

Cele303 said:How much does 2x512mb Kingmax hardcore run me? I see the standard SuperRAM is around $233, so I assume the HC version carries a premium. That Corsair 2x512mb DDR400 XMS CL2 kit goes for about $333, which runs at 2-2-2-5 on DDR400 and can be clocked up to DDR600 at 3-4-4-10. Let me know when you actually hit those numbers on the Kingmax...
Meanwhile, Taylor Alvarez84 is running his Adata DDR400 at 2-3-3-6, maxing out at 476mhz on 2.5-3-3-8, and he snagged the 2x512 for $200, which is a hell of a deal for what you get...

Look, everything you said is fine, really. But the issue is you didn't actually read the post properly. Right at the start—in my very first post—I made it clear I wasn't debating which RAM is the absolute best for overclocking. I know there are better options than Kingmax out there. I also assumed—wrongly, apparently, since I clearly misread 🤣—that the guy wasn't even looking to overclock. Look, I'm glad we're all happy and satisfied with our own gear. And yeah, it looks like Taylor Alvarez84's Adata sticks don't actually hit lower latencies than the Kingmax hardcore (despite what he claimed), but for that price? It's a solid buy. 😬 👍

Anyway, cheers and enjoy yourselves today. 🙂 🤣

Personally, I'm not feeling too satisfied with mine.😬 😬

Just buy Kingmax, lol... seriously.
🤣 🤣 😵

And look, if you actually own a Kingmax, please don't say that. Just go out and grab some A-Data or V-Data or whatever else makes you happy. Honestly. 😬 🤣

I've got a Compaq Deskpro en Series SFF motherboard here.
FSB Specs:
Bus Type: Intel GTL+
Bus Width: 64 bit
Base Clock: 100 MHz
Effective Clock: 100 MHz
Bandwidth: 800 MB/s

That's what Everest is showing me.

Quick question for you guys.
It currently has a Pentium2 350 Mhz-slot 1 installed.
Can I swap this out for a Pentium 3 that runs at a 133MHz base clock?
Thanks.😎

Nah, that board only takes Slot 1 processors—and if I recall correctly, the top end is around 650MHz...

It only supports a 66 or 100 FSB, too.

So if anyone tries to sell me a processor faster than 500MHz that actually fits this thing, let me know.😉

A few more questions
Is there such a thing as a Pentium 2 or 3 running on a 66MHz or 100MHz FSB
that actually hits speeds over 500MHz?

Anyone here actually have some experience overclocking an Athlon 64 (s.939), preferably a 3000+ model?

Hell yeah, they do.😲

That chip was practically built for OC.

Since that processor was basically engineered specifically for overclocking,

then do you actually have any hands-on experience with it?

It seems you all know the drill. I’ve got an Athlon XP 2500 + that’s supposedly capable of hitting 3200+ speeds if I just tweak the FSB. But every time I try, the whole system loses its mind. I ran that diagnostic tool and it flagged an error within minutes... anyone know a fix?

edit: Man, I sound like such a total newbie here. 🤣

So, how do I actually overclock this thing? I'm running an Athlon 64 on an nForce4 A939 motherboard.

What exact model are we talking about here? Barton or Mobile?
What motherboard are you running?
What kind of temps are you seeing?
Which program are you using?
What voltage are you throwing at it?

😬

Do I actually need to mess with any jumpers on this thing?

Well, I am asking you 🤣

The Barton core is fine, so that part is solid... in my old case, it stayed around 40 degrees while idling (maybe even a degree higher at 400 MHz)... this new build is freshly assembled, so I’ll grab the power supply and revert everything back to the old setup, which should bring the temps back down. Right now, it's sitting at 50.

The motherboard is giving me grief 😢

It's a Gigabyte GA-7N400S-L with nforce2... there isn't any manual voltage adjustment 😢 by default, the processor should be running at 1.65v

I can't recall the name of the software; I would have to Google it 😳

Which board?😕

Basically, you gotta go into the BIOS and crank up the FSB value.

No need for any stupid jumpers.

I've got my Kingmax at 433Mhz, but I'm pushing it to 455Mhz with 2-3-3-7, and even hitting 510mhz at 2.5-3-3-8.
