Seen this a long time ago. As I stated before, NO2 is only used for short-term testing by enthusiasts with too much money and time on their hands.🙂>

Look, I didn't jack up the Vcore by a whole volt, I bumped the FSB!!! And now the damn thing won't even boot

Alright, time for me to brag a little too... I've got an AMD Athlon 3700+ San Diego running at 2200 MHz, and I've managed to push it up to 2863 MHz so far. For memory, I'm using 2 x512 RAM Kingmax Hardcore DDR500, which stays rock solid at 560 MHz during constant use... (been running perfectly for about a month now). Haven't touched anything else yet. My CPU is cooled by a TT Big Typhoon, and my GPU uses a Cu700... SuperPI hit 29.750s and 3D Mark was around 2000—not huge, since my graphics card isn't exactly high-end... just a Radeon X1600Pro with 512MB.

Here are some shots of what the rig looks like...

This is a photo from before I swapped in the current cooler and a few other bits, but externally, it still looks the same..

How much can I actually push this rig? What would you guys recommend for overclocking...

My Athlon 3000+ is currently sitting at 1.81GHz
1 GB of Kingmax DDR RAM
Radeon X1600 with 256MB
An Epox motherboard
A standard 400W power supply
I don't have any extra fans or high-end coolers installed right now

How much? You're gonna have to figure that out yourself.

My advice is to start by bumping up the HTT just a tiny bit.🙂

You'll probably need to tighten up your memory timings first. As for the CPU itself, you should be able to hit 2.5 GHz without much trouble. Some lucky folks with top-tier high-end RAM (which isn't quite what you've got there) have even managed to push it to 2.8 or 2.9 GHz...

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a few questions for you seasoned overclocking pros out there.

My motherboard is an ASUS A7N8X deluxe
The CPU is a Barton 2500+
RAM is 2 x512 Infineon
Power supply is a Fortron 400W

So, my processor is locked—which basically means incremental overclocking isn't really an option for me, I guess,
I picked up a cooler a while back, some Silent Breeze thing... it wasn't super pricey, but the box says it can handle up to +3800MHz
In the BIOS, I bumped the multiplier up to 200, so theoretically, I should be running at a 3200 Athlon now.
Temperatures are sitting around 47-50 C, maybe hitting 55 C when things get heavy.

But here's the kicker—the system just won't stay stable. It keeps crashing during games, and I'm getting those Blue Screens of Death with the countdown timer (especially yesterday when I was trying to push it a bit with some multitasking and stuff).

Everything I read online on sites like Reddit says the Barton 2500+ is totally fine to clock up to 3200 and all that, and everyone seems to act like it's a given.

Where am I messing this up?

Is the temperature way too high?

What do you guys suggest I try?

Yeah, the Barton 2500+ is an excellent candidate for overclocking—it can pretty much run as a 3200+ without any issues if you play it right.
Now, if things start getting unstable, you'll probably need to bump up the voltage. Look for "Vcore" in your BIOS and try increasing it by just one step. Just one, though—don't go overboard. Test the system after that. If it’s still acting up, maybe try adding another step to the Vcore.

No, the real issue here is cooling. That heatsink you're using just isn't cutting it. It might claim to support up to a 3800+, but since yours is a 2500+ being pushed past its limits, temperatures are going to spike. If you're serious about overclocking, you'll have to shell out some cash for decent cooling. The bare minimum would be a Zalman7000, but honestly, I'd look into a Big Typhoon, Sonic Tower, Zalman 7700, Thermaltake Volcano 12, or even a Thermaltake Tower112....

Hey everyone!

Quick question...

Here’s the setup: motherboard😈 model EP-8KDA3+/8KDA3J
CPU: AMD Athlon 64, 2200 MHz (11 x 200) 3200+
Newcastle S754
RAM: 2 x512 RAM PC3200 DDR SDRAM
GPU: haven't decided between a Radeon X1600Pro or an X1600XT AGP
PSU: Chieftec 300W

How much can I actually squeeze out of this CPU? And is overclocking the GPU worth the effort?

Thanks for any input you can give.🙏 🙏 🙏

How much? Of what? Honestly, Steve, nobody really knows. You kind of have to just dive in and see how far you can push it yourself—I guess. Every processor is its own little beast, even if they come from the exact same series. I suppose that goes for pretty much any component, really.

I'm talking MHz... Like, theoretically speaking, how high could someone push the MHz if they have the hardware? How far can someone actually take an overclock?

In theory, you can crank it up as high as you want—as long as you have the cooling to back it up.
Check out this. 😉

I’d buy a new cooler if it actually worked well. Which coolers are any good for this CPU? I'm not planning on pushing the OC too hard—don't want it dying after five days. Anyone here have actual experience overclocking this processor?
🙏 🙏 🙏

I haven't messed around with overclocking an A64 yet—but here you can probably find everything you need. Just give it a little scroll.

I can't find anything on PCExpert; the site keeps blocking me... 👎
Since I've never messed with overclocking before, can someone walk me through the whole process? Or maybe just drop a link where it's all laid out in detail? Please...🙏 🙏 🙏

Everything is laid out right here, clearly and simply, so just slow down for a second and actually follow the instructions 😉

Is there an American version? I don't feel like translating this whole thing all day...👍

Listen, if you're all planning on overclocking, do yourselves a favor and sort out your cooling first.
It doesn't take much—just one tiny mistake with the Processor and you've effectively killed it forever—so don't be reckless.
Get your facts straight regarding maximum vcore, vdimm, and CPU temps—and for heaven's sake, check your motherboard for quirks; I've seen boards similar to a high-end ASUS ROG model fry themselves instantly if the vdimm creeps past 3.3v.

If you push your Processor just a little too hard, you might not kill it—but it definitely won't be the same machine again.
Do your homework on maximum vcore, vdimm, and CPU temperature limits. And please, check if your motherboard has any known quirks—for instance, some high-end boards were notorious for frying if the vdimm climbed above 3.3v.

I’m with you there... don't dive into something that could end up being fatal for your PC. If your computer is running smoothly and meeting your needs, why risk overclocking it? I mean, why bother?
I know, I know—I wanted to try it too. I ended up fried my AMD Athlon... but hey, it wasn't the end of the world. They actually honored a version of the warranty, so I got a replacement at a discount. Still, it was a headache.
This isn't something to take lightly—don't go charging in blindly. If you aren't 100% sure what you're doing, just don't. That's my definitive advice. 🙂
