By the time you find out, it'll be too late.😁

It’s not going to melt unless you toss it into a high-heat oven!😁
And honestly, that info about the operating temperature is total garbage. I used to run that exact chip, so I know firsthand how it handles heat.

I occasionally use it to grill food, so I need to know..

That’s pretty high even for a Prescott. Thermal protection should kick in around 70-72. How is it hitting those temps? Extreme overclocking, or what?

Is it actually possible to overclock an AMD Sempron 2800 + , and if so, how far can I realistically push it?

Man, what a useless question.😁

Like, can you, and how much?
What, you expecting me to just drop a number like, "Yeah, you can hit 2653 Mhz"?😕

Just try it and see if your motherboard can handle it, then get back to me with the results.

I was honestly just asking out of curiosity🤣
On Monday, I’m finally going to pop that processor into a motherboard—I haven't quite decided which one yet😁 )
so I can really dive into some overclocking experiments.
Once I figure things out, I'll be sure to post my results here.👍

Man, what even is an OC? I mean, it was running pretty hot before I added some extra cooling, and the thermal protection would kick in at around 74 degrees whenever I pushed it a bit too hard... but now? It won't even cross 65. Honestly, it feels like I'm the only one dealing with this processor running hot. The thermal paste is fresh, there wasn't any dust buildup, and the airflow was actually decent before I messed with the fans. Air was moving just fine, so... I guess you guys tell me—who's the crazy one here?😲

There's no way...
The sensors are straight-up lying. Have you even tried feeling it with your own damn hands?

I wouldn't say they're lying, honestly. I've been using an Asus Probe 2 to keep an eye on temps and all those little fluctuations. If you ask me if it's off, I'd say no, because I actually spent some time watching the temps in the BIOS and they looked pretty much identical to what I was seeing in the AP2..

But hey, who really knows for sure..

And look, I won't beat myself up over it—if it works, it works, and hopefully it keeps working, so I’m not going to stress too much about it. I probably won't even bother with overclocking since I don't really need to... maybe... or maybe it's all just a big mystery..

Thanks guys and girls for the help! If anyone else (who isn't part of the inner circle) has any ideas on what might be causing this, please feel free to use your First Amendment rights to type it out here..

Until then.. 🙂

It doesn't matter which software you use to monitor temperatures; your motherboard sensors are lying to you. No program can fix that. Honestly, the best way is to just feel if it's running too hot. If it isn't, go ahead and bump up the alarm threshold, but make sure you know what you're doing...

So, here’s what I’m working with right now:
ABIT NF8 v2 (socket 754)
AMD Sempron 2800 + (1800 MHz)
2x 256 DDR333
My FSB is sitting at 200, the multiplier is at 9, and I just have my memory settings left on Auto...

I was wondering if someone could walk me through the basics and explain what steps I should actually be taking here?

So, here's the deal. I tried touching it with my finger and it’s not even warm. If it were actually hitting 70 degrees, I’d probably be getting burned. I went out and grabbed a thermometer—obviously can't stick that right into the CPU core itself, right?—and it showed something well under 60 degrees. It seems like those sensors are just straight-up lying to me. So, I guess what I'm wondering is, is there any way to actually fix this or swap out the sensor, or should I just let the thing fry and see what happens?

I told you right from the jump, but you just won't listen.🙂

Fix it? Yeah, right. Maybe a BIOS update might help, but honestly, I doubt it. Some motherboards just have absolutely garbage sensors that aren't calibrated for shit, and that's the end of the story.

Yeah, you caught me... I guess I can be a little stubborn sometimes. It's kind of just how I'm wired, I suppose..

But whatever, thanks anyway👍

And here I was thinking the forum finally had its act together. First it was users and PMs vanishing—now even the top threads are going haywire... people change, I guess, but this place stays exactly the same. 😁

🙂 Personally, I think the CIA or some other agency is monitoring this place—the second a thread, a user, or a PM doesn't fit their narrative, they just pull the plug... it’s all a mystery.😬

For instance, if I have a core duo 2.4, how high could I push it on a standard ASUS motherboard?

thanks..

You can hit 3.8, provided you upgrade to better RAM and use a higher-quality CPU cooler, like a Zalman.

I don't think sensors are lying, per se; it's more likely they just aren't calibrated correctly. That isn't an uncommon issue, and in most cases, I guess you might be able to resolve it by performing a BIOS update.
