Oh yeah, cooling it down with a massive Cyclone... I’m telling you, I'll definitely be cranking that thing up to 4.5 GHz

With a real liquid cooling setup, I could probably push the Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 past 5GHz...🙏

hhh wiredmarlin5, you're talking nonsense!
What motherboard are you even referring to??

Oh, come on now, what kind of nonsense is that... since we're looking at a 10x multiplier, honestly, almost any decent motherboard capable of handling a 450MHz Intel should be more than enough to push it to 4.5 GHz... 🙂

So, what’s your take on this?

Yo, anyone know how I can overclock my CPU? My BIOS doesn't even have any overclocking options... I've got an ASUS motherboard—pretty sure it's an ASUS motherboard—that's maybe 7 years old, and the processor is an Athlon running at 900MHz. I really want to bump up the clock speed, but since there's nothing in the BIOS, I'm stuck. I tried using some software once, but it just told me it doesn't support this board. Any ideas on how to get this thing overclocked?

There isn't much room here for overclocking... honestly, just pray that it runs smoothly and call it a day 🙂 (no offense intended)

What's the max Intel on the GA 8i945P-S3?

I can't say for certain because that board isn't really built for any serious overclocking enthusiasts, but I'd guess you could probably push the Intel up to somewhere around 270 - 290MHz 🙂 (though maybe even a tiny bit higher if you get lucky)

I was just sitting here wondering, though, what's the deal with this board when it comes to voltage regulation? Because if the voltages aren't adjustable, you're basically hitting a wall where you won't be able to push any serious overclocking at all...

I’m thinking about overclocking an Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (once it arrives) from 2.2 to 2.6 GHz using the stock cooler. Not much of a jump. Once I actually need a more powerful processor, I'll look into getting better cooling. Apparently, you can adjust the voltage—that's what the manufacturer claims.

What's your take on this?

And so what? You can just stare at it. What exactly would you even use that for?🙄

And what exactly have you actually achieved with all that case modding, besides just staring at it for hours on end? 🙂

You really have a way with words, don't you? 😉

I'm going to try a bit of overclocking myself once I figure a few more things out; it's all still a little fuzzy to me right now. So, when I inevitably mess something up, just please don't go making fun of me... 🙂

Look, my current system clock is sitting at 133 MHz, I've got DDR 400 RAM, and the multiplier is set to 15.

I’m thinking about dropping the multiplier down to 10 while simultaneously cranking the system clock up to 200—the motherboard can actually handle up to 300—so I was wondering if anyone knows if this is even feasible. My goal is to hit a 1:1 ratio between the clock and the memory.
Is this going to end in a cloud of smoke?

So you're running an AMD build, right? To be honest, I’ve always been a bit more of a Team Blue kind of guy myself, so I don't have quite as much hands-on experience with their stuff... but listen, you really don't need to sweat the ratio between your RAM and your processor... just let that part go because, frankly, that kind of metric only really matters when you're staring at synthetic benchmarks.

If you actually went ahead with what you were suggesting, you'd find that the CPU frequency would end up being exactly the same anyway...

Here, I'll drop a link for you so you can dig into the details a bit more, since overclocking AMD hardware can get a little bit more finicky and complicated than other setups...

Like I said before, I have no idea what these synthetic tests actually entail, or why they’re the only way to go. Wouldn't it be more effective to stick with the same frequency but just set the clock to 200?

My motherboard lets me set a multiplier via a jumper; what would happen if I configured it to 10x 200?

So, I have a bit of a question here: I’ve been pushing my old Pentium 4 processor on an aging rig, managed to bump it up from the stock 2.53GHz to about 3.04GHz. Right now, it seems to hit a ceiling at 3800MHz, and the temps are hovering somewhere around the 50-55°C range, though I haven't touched the voltage yet.
Given that, what do you guys think the absolute limit might be if I don't mess with the cooling setup—which is just the standard stock cooler—or crank up the voltage? I'm honestly a little worried it might just hang or crash if I push too hard.
The motherboard is a P4PE, running a 19x multiplier with a 160mhz FSB.

You're running a GTS with 340MB... 😂
Everything works fine until your temps climb past 140°F.

Finally, Mike is checking in with his own results...
I picked up a new CPU cooler—which, honestly, I wasn't even feeling at first—and after a massive headache trying to get everything to line up, I finally managed to seat it in the case...
It’s a Typhoon...and yeah, I actually pulled it off. Right now, I've only run Super Pi...I'll be back tomorrow with some other—hopefully better—results. I'm too wiped out tonight. I might even snap a few photos of the rig so you guys can see my mod and how the whole thing turned out. And btw, to everyone praising this specific cooler... sucks to say it, but it feels cheap and flimsy. It wouldn't even cool me down if I were running a fever...😉
Here is the Super Pi run:Link>
_______________
For the record, I couldn't care less about overclocking... I'm doing this all for wiredmarlin5......😁>
Btw, I managed to push past 4 GHz using just the stock cooler.....😉>
