1. I’ve actually pushed it up to 4.8, so it's definitely doable if you have the patience.
2. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Sure, you might see those prices at a big-box retailer like Best Buy, but I didn't pay anything like that 😁 🙂 ...

Well, if you can actually get that thing to spin up at 4.8, then you’re truly hitting the jackpot... 🙂

I'm not going to dare push it back up to 4.8 again; I just don't have the stomach for it this time. Give me ten minutes and I'll see if I can get it sitting at 4.6...

Better get cracking on that processor right now, unless you want to be stuck there for at least ten minutes... 🙂

I just clocked in at 10.928 seconds on Super PI running at 4.6 GHz. If you actually look at the numbers, I’ve officially managed to outpace Mike 🙂 ...

Fine. Post the screenshots of CPU-Z, the RAM, and Super PI then.🙂

I'm curious if there's any room to push this rig a bit further through overclocking.

CPU: Intel Celeron D socket 478 2.8GHz / 533MHz FSB / 256KB L2 cache (stock cooler)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT Ultra AGP / 128MB / 128-bit bus / 525MHz-950MHz
RAM: 2x 1GB Kingmax DDR / PC3200 (400MHz) in dual channel
PSU: 500W ATX2
+4 additional case fans

Currently, I’ve been steadily overclocking the CPU to 3.0GHz and the GPU from 527MHz up to 1100MHz (the memory can actually hit 1250MHz, but things start getting a bit too hot at that point).
I’d love to squeeze out a little more performance, but I’m hesitant about whether it's safe to push it further. I'm looking for some advice from those with more experience in this area. 🙂

The foundation of any solid, safe, or high-quality overclock is decent cooling—start there. Make sure your thermal management is dialed in first, and then you can push those clocks as hard as you want...
If things go sideways... just reset the CMOS and get back at it. Repeat the process until you hit the absolute ceiling for your CPU or GPU!

By the way—I went ahead and overclocked my GPU too...😉
But I’ve gotta admit, I’m feeling a little uneasy because it’s running incredibly hot (using an 8800 GTS)...
Anyway—I think the clock speeds are sitting at around 770/1190 MHz.....🙄

If things go sideways, just reset the CMOS and try again. It's the same cycle until you eventually find the sweet spot for your CPU or GPU!

I hear you loud and clear...
However, since my GPU cooler recently decided to bite the dust, I'm averaging somewhere between 66-75 degrees. There won't be any overclocking on my end until the replacement part arrives.

If only I knew why the cooling system failed in the first place 🙂 🙂 😕

Heh...

Scored 10,979 points on Dmark 2001. 😎
Not exactly a disaster when running at max settings... or is it?

I have to admit, I’m feeling a little bit discouraged because this thing is running incredibly hot... that 8800 GTS just won't stop climbing in temperature...
By the way, I’ve finally managed to get the clock speed up to... 770/1190 I think I meant MHz...🙄

No way... you're just pulling my leg...😈 Could you please send over a screenshot...?😁

I'm feeling a little bummed out because this 8800 GTS is running way too hot.
I think the clock is sitting at 770/1190 MHz, maybe...🙄

What kind of temps are we looking at?

It seems like Bryan Wood49 got a bit worked up and started overclocking like a total maniac 😈. I don't really see the point in asking for a screenshot; I trust Bryan Wood49 😬. If he pushed the limits and it happened, then well, that's just how it goes

I'm checking in from work right now—once I get home, I'll post the screenshot so you can see for yourself...😉 Any takers on this one?
12095 3DMark...😉

I wouldn't bet on that... there is just no way in hell that the core is running at 770 while the memory hits 2380MHz... I mean, unless you happen to be looking at a model equipped with DDR5 😈
... maybe?

Did I mess something up then?? I missed it! That’s what I was seeing in RivaTuner... and look, you know I don't exactly claim to be an expert when it comes to overclocking—I'm no pro—but I think I might have actually screwed up here...
If I did blow it, my bad...

Look, Mike—don't give me that—I'm telling you... once I get home, I'll post the picture.😠
