The album The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place is pure genius and honestly, everyone should listen to it at least once. 🙏 That’s all I wanted to say, now we can just ignore this thread for the next six years. 😁

And you're a moderator too 😬 reviving an old thread without saying anything meaningful or getting a warning 🤔 😁 that's some serious favoritism, man 🙂

Let's not ignore the thread for six years, though, because a new album is dropping soon 😉
specifically on April 25th!

What would you even say about the Steve Roach Quote regarding Structures from Silence 😁
?

Well, at least he’s got a sense of humor! 😁

I mean, track titles are usually pretty terrible anyway, right? 👍

Look, man, everyone just posts according to what they can manage at the moment. It’s not his fault. 😁

Jason Richardson5 said:And you're a moderator too, 😬 digging up some ancient thread where you don't even contribute anything and somehow dodge a warning card 🤔 😁—that's called special treatment, buddy. 🙂

My post was actually incredibly important; it breathed life back into this long-dead thread and got people talking again. You clearly have no clue what's going on here. 🙂

It feels like they built these tracks around specific climaxes, then immediately watered them down just so they wouldn't come off sounding cheap. 🤷

I don't know, maybe they’ll grow on me if I actually sit down and listen to them more—all I can remember right now is how mostly just boring they felt...

heheh... honestly, I actually find his "dislike" for that band kind of charming 🤣
I wonder how he'd react to the series 'Friday Night Lights'—you know, the one where Explosions in the Sky did the entire soundtrack and they're playing constantly, plus 'Your Hand in Mine' is basically the theme song😍
along with a few other killer bands, including those poor bastards😍
the whole show is centered around American football😁

HAHA, hilarious! Seriously? Gybe is lightyears ahead of EITS, and don't even get me started on Sigur Rós. Then you've got Slint, who basically redefined the genre and puts any other band to shame—plus Tortoise, Mogwai, and my personal emotional heavyweight, Gregor Samsa. We also have If These Trees Could Talk. And I should probably throw in Suffocate, because for God's sake, they probably have the best post-rock album ever made. I could easily list plenty of post-rock bands that incorporate screaming, but then again, that wouldn't be "PURE" post-rock.

Not to mention Have a Nice Life, whose Deathconsciousness is arguably the greatest album of all time.

Yasmin The Light and The Moon is Down are basically anthems at this point. Honestly, everything from Explosions in the Sky after that just doesn't quite hit the same.

Totally agree.

Gregor Samsa had this one track on repeat for me back in '07—it goes like this:

Regarding that post-punk sound with vocals, I’d definitely suggest checking out EF and their album Give Me Beauty... or give me death.

I honestly can't tell if I've finally lost my mind or if I'm just not used to things being this concise—maybe the track really is just that incredible? Either way, I’ve already blasted the new Trembling Hands 🙏
five times in a row since first hearing it!

Anyway, I totally blanked on sending this earlier, so here goes:
Could someone please explain this whole "sludgy" or "cheap" label? (I feel like people throw similar critiques at the entire post-rock 🙄 genre). Thanks!

GY!BE isn't really the point here, though there are some similarities... but those guys use a million strings and seem way more pretentious. Honestly, Have You Passed Through This Night? doesn't even come close to Dead Flag Blues or Providence..

I've heard people mention Friday Night Lights, but I have no clue what it's actually about or what the vibe is. Does it even fit the music? 😁

It feels just like that early Panera vibe.
It's different. I mean, I like it, but I guess I can't quite form an actual opinion yet.

It’s just me. That's all there is.

Does anyone else actually have that much free time to burn on a single GYBE? I guess not. 😢

I guess for those slower, ambient Mono vibes, I’d go with Explosions in the Sky, but if you need something fast and driving, EITS is the move. image
the birth and death of day is love 😢
