I actually caught them live last year, and I have to say—they play incredibly well, and they don't hold back on the setlist length either. The whole show stretched on for over two and a half hours. Regarding the Load and Reload eras, they really only touch on Fuel; everything else seems to be the classic hits—plus some frantic, angry, unnamed tracks.
They have this specific way of connecting with the crowd, too. They’ll play One and Sandman, and just when you think it’s finally over—you know, the lights come up and the band starts waving goodbye—they’ll suddenly strip away all the light shows and squeeze in two more songs, usually something raw from their garage days (I was lucky enough to hear Am I Evil?).
Also, if they’re playing an outdoor venue, they use these massive flames on stage during Fuel and Blackened, and there are even pyrotechnics shooting off right above the stage.

This is just a copy of a post I made on another forum, so don't get mad if it feels a little out of place:

Man, Metallica... I remember it like it was seven and a half years ago,
My cousin gave me a cassette where Master of Puppets was on one side and a magazine was on the other, man, seriously!!!
So, while all the other kids were listening to Spice Girls, I was humming along to Metallica,
They thought I was a freak,
Oh, how right they were!

And hey, anyone saying Metallica's first five albums suck clearly doesn't know a damn thing about music, period.
You don't have to love them, but you have to respect them!

Hell, I'm actually going to go to the damn concert because:
- I've got some cash sitting around, so I might as well blow it now
- I've got trauma from back when I could've gone to the show but didn't
- And it’s for the sake of those good old memories (just like 90% of the crowd)

If anyone thinks Saint Anger is garbage, let me hear you raise your hand!

I bought that expanded edition with the DVD, thinking there'd be some cool interview or documentary, but instead, it's just the band acting like idiots—some crappy recording of a rehearsal before the studio session. The quality is terrible, they look awful, they have the exact same freaking tracklist as the CD, and they're dancing around like they've lost their minds...
I actually felt bad for my DVD player for having to play such trash.

I mean, what the fuck happened?
They used to have the most incredible songs ever, when you look at the structure, the lyrics, the riffs...
When I started reading the lyrics to Anger, I almost choked; any guy in the Midwest could've written that crap.
Then I thought to myself, 'Man, Het, you've really sold out now!'
Just look at them, a bunch of morons:
They don't own anything—not the music, not the name, not even that angry guy Het drew on a napkin.
They have to do whatever their boss says; if he tells them, "Hey, write an album in ten minutes and I'll make sure it's a hit," then that's exactly what happens.
Seriously, Het can barely stay on his feet, and young Veka from Inciter sings better than him!
And Kirk, damn, that guy is a total fag!!!
Look at him, he's got a voice like Michael Jackson, and it's starting to sound like it too, but all that would change if he actually played his guitar properly.
The guy hasn't had a decent solo since his mom bought him a wah pedal for Christmas,
And yet they put him in the top ten guitarists of all time. Man, if he ever ended up on stage with Yngwie Malmsteen or Voja Stefanovski, he'd be hiding in his pink panties!
Don't even get me started on that new guy playing the bass,
The only one I can tolerate is Lars; he hits the drums like a steroid-fueled orangutan possessed by crazy mckravas,
As long as he stays tight enough so he doesn't fly off the stage at any second.

When I was a kid, I used to dream that Cliff Burton would rise from the grave like a zombie and shove his bass guitar up everyone's ass.
Ugh, I'm so pissed off right now that I'm gonna go listen to Orion just to calm down.

BTW, if anyone is interested, I can send you my high school senior thesis on Metallica. My teacher thought my opinion was "too vulgar," whatever that means.
So it's mostly general info, but it's a solid paper, and I'm pretty proud of it.

Good grief, is every single Nazi on this forum still in school? Burzum is stuck in middle school, the rest are in high school... Unbelievable...

Good grief, is every single Nazi on this board still in grade school? You've got the Burzum fans stuck in elementary and the rest of you in middle school... Pathetic!

Just because I'm working on my senior thesis on my computer doesn't mean I finished it yesterday, and frankly, there's no reason to be rude to anyone, especially not to the Forum Member of the Year—Antonio Banderas 🙂

I find myself wondering who actually sold out more. Is it Metallica, entering their middle age and somehow losing the drive to be anything other than model citizens and polite musicians? Or is it those high schoolers—and even their parents, who aren't even spending their own money—who spit on everything they don't listen to (or rather, fail to understand)? They love to judge who "sold out," yet they'll happily line up to pay for tickets to see the very people they claim to despise.
To anyone who claims to loathe M.—don't bother showing up to the show to prove how much you haven't "sold out." And if you do decide to go anyway, maybe try earning your own cash first so you can actually demonstrate some semblance of individuality.

Who even are you? I'm clearly in the middle of a conversation with Jose Johnson40. Don't interrupt, it's rude...

You know how it goes; the future belongs to the youth 😁

Regarding Metallica, I'm starting to drift away from what cosmiccobra35 thinks. Honestly, though, I'm not even mad at them—I truly don't give a damn that they went mainstream...
There are way better metal bands out there than what they ever were...

For example: Nokturnal Mortum - Veles' Scrolls

If work doesn't get in my way, I'm heading out—hoping they play some of those older tracks from before they turned into whatever this current version is. If I can't make it, oh well, won't break my heart too much. Honestly, I just feel bad for Morbid Angel...😢

I almost dropped my phone when I read they were coming to the States...

Even though I haven't been listening to them much lately, I’m definitely going to the show. After all, Metallica has always been one of my absolute favorite bands.

😁

If only they would play Fade to Black....

Unbelievable. I honestly couldn't believe it when I saw they were finally coming to the States. I didn't even bother signing up because I was too stunned. I've been listening to them for fourteen years now, and somehow, I've still never made it to one of their shows.
It looks like it’s finally happening.

METALLICA🙏

I think my heart would simply stop right there in the middle of the concert.
Interestingly enough, there is an active poll currently happening over on the official Metallica message board regarding their setlist.

1. Dyer's Eve with 98 votes
2. Fade to Black with 8xx votes

While I find it hard to believe the band truly relies on those fan forums for direction—even if it is their official platform—it is worth noting that a petition for a US tour date was once posted there, and wouldn't you know it, we actually got them!😁

Aha, wild indeed! Now, I certainly wouldn't want to dampen anyone's spirits, but isn't it interesting that the promoter behind this show is the very same individual who "organized" that Rolling Stones tour in Los Angeles last year? You might recall that he's currently facing legal trouble in federal court for tax evasion, not to mention all those ongoing lawsuits from fans who bought tickets for that Stones concert and never saw a dime of their money returned...

But oh well... since he has managed to pull off a few successful shows since then, can we really afford to lose hope just yet?

We shall see if justice prevails!

Over on the Metallica message board, they’re actually voting on the setlist.

1. Eva Dye with 98x votes
2. Fade to Black with 8xx votes

Even if I doubt they really follow that forum too closely (despite it being their official site), they did host a petition for a concert here in America, and well, we got it.😁

If they’d just play Eva Dye🙏 , but I highly doubt it'll ever happen. They've never played it live, and I'm skeptical.
That song would get even a dead man headbanging.

It’s a fact: the guy is Marian Crnaric, and now he’s hiding behind the pages of The New York Times, trying to reinvent himself as the new big name in promotion 🙂

He clearly wants to play that role, but let’s be real—he just can't step out of his own skin 🙂

If he actually manages to pull off some money laundering, we might see a concert; if he fails, those sycophants on this forum will just claim they had no idea what he was up to 🙂
