Honestly, what a disaster of a sequel. It would have been better if they just left it alone.🙂

It's all amateurs. I think Americans are just a bit too dim to grasp the nuance of that movie, which explains why it flopped at the box office.
Look, if it isn't "family-friendly entertainment," people just don't want to touch it.
It’s pathetic how the film industry is basically dictated by the tastes of teenagers between 10 and 16. Truly awful.

el Duderino said:Yeah, honestly, none of the actors are coming back... and when I really sit down and think about it, maybe it's actually for the best. 😁

Why though? Because they were easily the most subversive element of the whole movie. It was only later that I realized just how much the Hitler Youth vibe and the cast of Melrose Place have in common.

True, except Hitler Youth members fight on the battlefield while the Hollywood Youth just fight in the media. And Verhoeven put them right back in the fray.
Paul Verhoeven directed it, and if you ask me, he’s the real deal. He’s a great director!
He also did Showgirls, which is way more than just smut (just like Starship Troopers is more than just an action flick), plus RoboCop, which has its own charm, Basic Instinct with that famous leg cross, and Total Recall with Schwarzenegger—that's a solid movie too.
I took a quick look at AllMovie and saw they gave Starship two and a half stars, but Showgirls only got one and a half?!? Who even runs that site?
The only thing I'll admit is that his recent one, Hollow Man, was a complete disaster. Terrible movie.
He’s got two other films that actually got decent ratings. Who has time to watch all this... Plus they're in Danish. It says here he graduated in math and physics. That just proves he's not sane...

Oh, and speaking of SC, I’d suggest Barbarella—man, what a weird movie. I binged the whole thing! (Okay, lying, some parts are a bit slow, but still, it's a legend.) It's a film adaptation of a comic, super erotic, tons of color, weird naive sets and stuff. The movie is pure kitsch, like those old Generalić types and everything else. When Jane Fonda looks at you with those huge, naive eyes, you just can't resist! Insane.

Look, I know this is off-topic, but the review for Showgirls basically calls it one of those "so bad it's good" cult classics—pure trash cinema. Since that kind of thing doesn't move the needle at the box office, they only gave it 1.5 stars. At least they realized what it actually is. Personally, I live for those trashy flicks; my pick for the most SC movie in the post above proves that. And dumb Jane Fonda absolutely hates her first big film! What an idiot!

Honestly, that’s easily the best sci-fi comedy I’ve ever seen.

Honestly, if we are talking about true masterpieces of the genre—and I say this as a genuine sci-fi enthusiast—nothing quite touches the greatness of *The Visitors from Galaxy* (or whatever the exact title was) based on the work by Dušan Vukotić. It’s such a standout piece of American sci-fi history, especially considering it featured a ten-year-old René Bitoraj. Isn't it just incredible when you think about it?

Well, if we're talking about SC, I’d have to suggest Barbarella—man, what a bizarre flick that is! I actually sat through the whole thing in one sitting! (Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little because some parts drag, but still, it’s a total cult classic.) It was filmed based on a comic, it's super erotic, bursting with color, and features all those wonderfully weird, naive sets. The movie is pure camp, sort of like those old kitschy Americana vibes. And honestly, when Jane Fonda looks at you with those huge, innocent eyes, you just can't help yourself! It's wild.

It really is such a gorgeous piece of kitsch.
That was definitely Ms. Fonda's sexy era, you know? Back before she was posing in front of anti-aircraft guns and earning that Hanoi Jane nickname.
Nowadays, she's embraced a more spiritual path, which might be exactly why she’s moved on from "Barbarella."

She's certainly had an interesting career.

Ugh, it was late, I lost my... uhm...

And Jane? She’s basically public enemy number one for all those veterans in America; they absolutely loathe her. I was hanging out on some Barbarella site and a sketchy forum once, and you just see these long manifestos from veterans pouring out how much they hate Jane Fonda and everything she stands for. I'm scrolling through, and man, there are just so many of them. It's like they all searched for Barbarella on Google just to spit on anything connected to her. Total overkill. Jane is like the ultimate villain over here.

I’d highly recommend anyone check out "The Arrival" starring Charlie Sheen. It follows a radio astronomer who discovers that aliens have already infiltrated the highest levels of government and are planning a slow-motion takeover of the planet (it basically implies Bush is an alien himself! 😁). It's a fantastic film; when I first sat down to watch it, I was expecting something along the lines of a standard episode of "X-Files," but after the first thirty minutes, things take such an incredible turn. The special effects are unexpectedly high-quality and deliver some truly mind-bending imagery, shifting the movie into a realm of top-tier action and mystery. I was completely hooked and kept on edge until the very end. Plus, Sheen is excellent in this—he plays a man who is pitted against everyone and has zero credibility, yet he remains determined to fight to the bitter end despite having almost no chance. He portrays that sweaty, exhausted, disheveled, paranoid, and terrified man standing alone against the world with such grit; he really nailed it.

Does anyone remember the name of that movie? I’ve completely blanked on the title, the director, and even the cast (though they weren't major stars). It's about Aliens taking over the Earth using some kind of device to disguise themselves as regular humans. Then, a group of people finds special glasses that allow them to see through the disguise and spot hidden messages in things like commercials or movies.
I know it might sound like total garbage, but it really isn't. The film is actually quite good. Anyone who has seen it will know exactly what I mean.

Also, I really enjoyed that older one—I forgot the title again—starring Charlton Heston. In that one, a disease sweeps the world, turning the rest of humanity into these creatures that hunt at night, and they're looking to get a little blood from old Charlton.
What was that called?

That one is also by Carpenter—it's "They Live".

It seems like the name John Carpenter keeps popping up all over this thread!

The other one you're thinking of is "The Omega Man" (which, by the way, was supposed to be remade by Schwarzenegger as "I Am Legend").

That was just Jane Fonda's sexy era. Long before she was posing next to those anti-Viet Cong guns and earning herself the nickname Hanoi Jane.
Now she’s gone all religious on us, so maybe that's why she can't stand "Barbarella" anymore.

Wild career.

....plus, that movie popped up on a DVD at the local shop recently. You know, the kind of flick that counts as "essential viewing"...

Speaking of Sci-Fi films starring Heston, my absolute favorite has to be "Soylent Green"
,you know, the one where Heston plays a cop who discovers that this green food everyone is eating... is actually made from human corpses. Obviously, he's not thrilled about that realization...😁

If you're looking for something to watch, you really need to track down Peter Jackson's debut, Bad Taste—it’s a bit of a hunt to find it these days, but trust me, it's worth the effort.

(Honestly, calling it a B-movie is an understatement since it's pure cult legend status, even if it's technically just gross.) 👍

So, look, there are definitely some aliens in there, but honestly, the movie leans much more into being a horror flick—specifically "splatstick." For those who aren't familiar with the term, it’s basically a mashup of splatter (think horror movies drenched in blood and guts) and slapstick (that classic kind of physical American comedy), which is a subgenre that Jackson practically pioneered himself.

Honestly, you really have to watch everything with a grain of salt.

Anyway, here's another absolute masterpiece for the collection: "RoboCop 2," a movie so spectacularly terrible in every single department that it actually circles back around to being a work of art.
(Just to be clear, they didn't try to make it this bad; it just is, and honestly, finding something worse might be impossible—even "Shadowchaser" looks like a high-budget epic compared to this disaster)

Have you even seen Plan 9 from Outer Space?

Now THAT is a movie. 😁
