I can’t stop thinking about that one scene where you see a Mexican sitting there in the dark, hunched over his laptop inside some old stone house, scrolling through Index and just muttering "I'm dreaming"...

Both the "Before the Rain" and "Dust" DVDs hit the shelves here in North Mexico late last yearβ€”if anyone's interested, I can probably get my hands on them πŸ™‚

Btw, I think Dust is actually even more incredible; it’s darker and somehow even funnier at the same time. It feels like a more polished version of Before the Rain. I guess Milcho knew his Hollywood career was pretty much dead in the water, but he still managed to film it without any issues.

I honestly think Before the Rain is easily the best war movie (and everything surrounding it) from the former Yugoslavia region.

You really have to see it on the big screen!!!!

The most gut-wrenching part is when the Mexican goes to visit his old school friendβ€”an Albanian girlβ€”and talks things through with her father, who is played by the incredible Abdulrahman Shalja.
Unfortunately, his name only shows up in the credits at the end of the film.

...you guys catch that Manchevski flick?...honestly, I thought it was killer...

...it’s got those Pulp Fiction Tarantino vibes, and since they dropped around the same time, you gotta wonder who actually pulled a fast one on whom...πŸ™‚...

This soundtrack is incredible, Anastacia-Before the rain is such a vibe. πŸ™‚
Honestly, one of my all-time favorites. I’ve actually got it playing right now.😍

...man, I feel the same way 😍

...I have this vague memory of the movie, kind of like looking through a fog... but seeing this thread actually pushed me to go hunt it down again πŸ™‚

Such an incredible movie, and honestly, the soundtrack is just perfection.
When you look at Milton's track record, he actually started filming several projects in Hollywood, but he ended up walking away from them after clashing with producers. One of those specific projects was that horror-western, Ravenousβ€”starring Guy Pierce and Robert Carlyleβ€”which ended up being finished and credited to Antonia Bird instead.
And then there’s the lead actress, Katrin Cartlidgeβ€”who was absolutely brilliant in major films like No Man's Land, Breaking The Waves, Father Hell, and several other Mike Leigh projects (he's really the one who put her on the map)β€”but sadly, she isn't with us anymore either. She passed away back in 2002 when she was only 42.
