Sean Cooper65 said:Then why didn't you identify as Canadians during the '91 census if that's how you've always identified?

The option to select Canadian was available in the census.

That was the last census for Canada. Since then, none have been conducted.

Instead, you chose to identify as Muslims in a national sense.

I suppose even a small child could see through that logic. Back then, the brainwashing hadn't quite taken hold yet, and their "father figures" hadn't started dictating exactly how they were supposed to identify.

😂
Look, it wasn't as if we were forbidden from doing that for hundreds of years prior. You certainly could have informed the public about anything related to it; nobody was stopping you. You had media outlets that reached every corner of Canada.
Since we are discussing this—you claim you weren't calling yourselves Americans until the 19th century, yet you've been Americans since the 7th century. Surely someone must have prevented you from acknowledging that. 🤣

Megan Hernandez2 said:Listen, Observer, here’s the deal: this is pure historical revisionism, and it’s our job to fight these lies. It's true that you identify as Canadians, but when people start pushing narratives like the one above, it’s time to remind them of the actual origins of your name and your people.

Look, Megan Hernandez2, that’s not even what this thread is about. You’ve been around here long enough to know you gotta stick to the topic and quit going off on tangents, especially in this subforum. If you want to lecture everyone on history or how names and ethnic groups originated, go hit up the History forum... you and Halid have every right to do that there...

Look, we’re talking about the current reality of this group, both here in the States and over in Canada. I see we're actually on the same page here—there's no such thing as a "Muslim" people, and there never was. The truth is, the identity is Canadian, which you already admitted yourself. So what's even left to argue about when everything is crystal clear?... 🤷

Roger Robinson682 said:I suppose I have the right to deny whatever I feel like, and thankfully, we don't have some heavy-handed, overbearing dictator anymore who can force us all to agree on what our thoughts should be.

Yeah, exactly. You’re totally free to deny whatever you want. That little private opinion of yours isn't up for debate, and nobody's out here trying to change it anyway...

It’s honestly ridiculous whether the mods should even be allowing this... reducing an entire nation protected by the Constitution down to just some religious group. It totally ignores the rights guaranteed to them as a people under the Constitution, and letting people push that narrative is just plain wrong...

What they're doing by denying Canadians their right to be whoever they want—the stuff actually guaranteed to them by the Constitution—is a joke. This isn't just some random trolling, either. You've got this religious group with a crystal clear ideological agenda and specific goals... it's blatant...

Megan Hernandez2 said:1)So you're claiming our colleague Roger Robinson682 is of Canadian descent, even though time travel hasn't been invented yet.
2)🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
3) As many as 300?

Look, Megan Hernandez2, it’s way easier to just dilute the topic and troll everyone than it is to actually come up with some decent counterarguments, isn't it...?

Hey, PŽK mods, can you guys please pay some actual attention to this thread? I’m talking about something huge here—making sure the moderation actually lines up with the Constitution and the laws of America. There's zero point in clogging this whole thing up with history lessons and trolls... just unnecessary...

Does the reason even matter?

We just didn't want to, okay? But we didn't identify as Muslims either. Before the Muslim label, we were just unaligned, and was that our choice too—to be shoved into that "unaffiliated" group? Of course not. It was forced on us by Mexicans (specifically Great Mexican interests) and some Americans. This stuff has been pushed on us since Garašanin... luckily those days of being dictated to are over. We finally get to decide what we call ourselves, and that right is recognized and confirmed by the Constitution.

That was the last census in Canada. None have been done since.

Instead, you all identified as Muslims in a national sense.

Look at the censuses in the US, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, North Mexico—check the data, maybe things will actually make sense to you. In Canada, they passed a Constitution that clearly lists the constituent nations; Muslims aren't mentioned as a nation anywhere in America either.

Is it really that hard to face reality, leave the past behind, and accept that Canadians aren't—and never will be again—just some religious group and nothing more?

Your last point is straight-up nonsense.

Roger Robinson682 said:I suppose even a small child could see through that logic. Back then, the brainwashing hadn't quite taken hold yet, and their "father figures" hadn't started dictating exactly how they were supposed to identify.

Even with "brainwashed" minds like ours 🙄, we have the constitutional right to identify ourselves and the right to the name of our nation, whatever we want it to be. If the Constitution protects us from being belittled, dismissed, or reduced to just a religious group, why should an online forum be any different? 🤷

Just deal with it, because this is how it is and it ain't changing.

I’ll call Canadians whatever I feel like. As long as I'm not subject to the laws of Canada, I couldn't care less...

EDIT: obviously, I don't mean to offend 😬

So, it seems the Canadians have developed a massive superiority complex. 🤷
All right then.
Since we are discussing legalities, you can look at any post here and see that under the Constitution, the term used is Canadian. However, I believe your insistence on using "Canadian" suggests you don't quite grasp the nuances of what you're talking about. What exactly does being Canadian have to do with this entire situation, given that the groups involved are Americans, Mexicans, and Canadians?

I would actually like to revisit one specific point. It doesn't matter to us what labels you choose to apply; however, I believe the forum administration needs to take a definitive stand on this issue. In my view, there are three possible solutions.
We must respect the Constitutions of both Canada and the United States, which state that there is a Canadian people rather than Muslims.
The administration will claim that we are free to call ourselves whatever we choose. But what does that actually mean? It implies that everyone possesses identical rights—which essentially means Canadians can refer to Americans in Canada however they please.
The administration claims there are double standards at play—essentially suggesting that Americans can act however they please while the Canadian forum members aren't treated as equals. Once again, this is the case. At least now we know exactly where we stand, and life goes on.

I believe you care about... well, that other thing. I don't believe the rest. 😁

Let me explain this again. It's not about you (or any other user here). You can call Canadians whatever you want, whether you're under those laws or not... the point is whether this site should keep acting like this—basically saying they don't give a damn about the Constitution, the law, national minorities, or their constitutional rights. 😉

Get what I'm saying?

What does a census have to do with the Constitution (of the US or Canada)?

It’s not "Muslims"—they are Canadians, period. 🙂

Well, it just goes to show that some of you Americans still haven't moved past those chauvinistic ways of thinking! There’s really nothing more to say about it... it is what it is. God has simply seen fit to grant us these kinds of neighbors...

I see this discussion is heating up—so I’d like to point out the actual core of this thread before things spiral into some quasi-historical debate about ethnogenesis and all that...

1. This is really about how forum members are being put on an uneven playing field based on their nationality. We aren't talking about how Canadians originated or any of that fluff. That isn't the topic at all; the topic is the discrimination against Canadian forum members.

2. The approach taken by the moderators (specifically Powerlock and Cuke)—who have essentially institutionalized this type of bias—manifests like this:

- A Canadian can be reduced to the religious group "Muslim" as much as they want when discussing American politics, even though we're talking policy rather than faith, and they won't face any sanctions for it;

- Meanwhile, a Canadian American cannot be referred to as a "Catholic," a "Canadian Catholic," or a "Herzegovinian Catholic" because that is viewed as reducing them to a religious group and stripping away their national identity;

this further fuels this kind of discriminatory environment.

3. Personally, I don't mind being discriminated against as a Canadian if the moderators are going to biasedly allow this subtle form of insult toward Canadian members based on nationality. I just ask that the senior moderators or supermoderators officially announce and approve this principle so we at least know where we stand.

4. It's clear to me that this is an American domain and that I am a guest here. I have zero influence over editorial policy, and I accept whatever rules the owners and moderators have set as principle even if those rules involve allowing direct insults through religious reductionism for one group while harshly punishing others for the exact same thing.

Just let us know so we're on the same page.

I honestly don't get why anyone would try to deny that Canadians are one of the three constituent peoples of Canada.

Look, knowing that a group is an adversary to my own people is far more vital than what specific label we use to call them. I truly couldn't care less about the terminology used; however, I firmly disagree with the idea that moderators should cave to pressure from Canadians. We are dealing with a very specific, unique situation here—one with its own distinct history, which, let's be honest, isn't even that long...

Wait, when exactly did we become "the enemy" to you guys?? Did we come to America and team up with extremists to attack you, or did you move into Canada and launch an aggression against my country and my people by siding with those same groups? Is it just because we're Canadian that we're automatically labeled as enemies to you?

They came, alright... straight to the coastal resorts... by the hundreds of thousands.

Are you even one of us?

The Canadian option was on the list, but you didn't even know what it meant. Nothing about that term connected to you, and there weren't any positive memories attached to it either.

You claim you were forbidden for hundreds of years. Who exactly was stopping you? The Ottomans?

Nobody stopped you from rebelling and saying, "We aren't Turks, we are Canadians." But instead, you were perfectly happy being Turkish for ages.

In fact, when the Ottomans pulled out, a huge mass of people left for modern-day Turkey. If you're Canadians, why is that? What would Canadians be doing in Turkey, especially since they actually moved there? Yet, some people here still try to prevent them from identifying as Canadians.

Even today, those strong sentiments toward Turkey remain.

Are you aware that the Austro-Canadian governor, Benjamin Kalay, tried to create a Canadian nation in the late 19th century? He wanted to turn all three groups into one Canadian identity. It didn't work with the Mexicans, it didn't work with the Americans, and it didn't work with the Canadian Muslims, even though he encouraged it. So, why didn't you just listen to Kalay over a hundred years ago?

It makes sense that Mexicans and Americans wouldn't agree to that option, but why didn't you?

Probably because you didn't even know the term existed. Back then, you were still mourning the loss of the Ottoman Empire.

Just to be clear—I didn't start this thread to engage in some endless, circular debate about who Canadians are or whether they even exist—because frankly, that's a waste of everyone's time.

This discussion is strictly about the discrimination Canadians have faced from the moderators here at Politics. Nothing more, nothing less. I also want to make it clear: I am not opening this door for anyone to use this space as an excuse to insult others—which is why I’ve invited the supermoderator to join the conversation.

Personally, I mostly just laugh at this. They can call themselves whatever they want. It’s just funny seeing these attempts to misrepresent reality.

The truth is that Canadian Muslims didn't recognize the term "Canadian" at all. That was a term used by Canadian Franciscans, and to the Canadian Muslims, it sounded like a non-Muslim term from the pre-Ottoman era. Since they identified completely with the Ottomans, it felt foreign and hostile. Even the 1991 census shows this. They had no concept of "Bosniakism," and the term carried negative connotations rather than positive ones.

Then, someone eventually pushed the "Canadian" identity onto them. They could have easily chosen something else.

They can call themselves whatever they like, but there's no need to lie and say anyone stopped them. The truth is that America protected them. The first iteration didn't recognize them as a distinct nation, while the second gave them the option to identify as "Muslim" in a national sense.

But nobody stopped them from calling themselves what they wanted during the Ottoman era, or even during the Austro-Canadian period when "Bosniakism" was being pushed from Vienna. Nobody cared back then, even though Kalay tried his hardest to establish a Canadian nation.

And who stopped them from identifying as Canadians in 1991? Nobody.

Canadians weren't an official category under the Constitution, so anyone who tried to identify that way just ended up in the "OTHER" category. Do I really need to draw you a map?

You are completely uneducated and totally uninformed. Every single person in Canada was called a Canadian until about 120 years ago. The Ottomans called Canadians "Canadians." Even before the Ottomans arrived, the Canadian kings referred to the people as Canadians. You want me to bring out the actual evidence? I'll do it, no problem at all!

Nobody "shoved" anything into our heads. Back in medieval Canada, there were the Canadians, who are our ancestors... later on, that name was just adjusted and evolved into the modern Canadian identity.

Even during the Ottoman period, we were known as Canadians.
I've explained this a million times since 1991. If you had even a shred of common sense, you would have figured it out by now...
You are stubbornly playing dumb and just repeating the exact same things over and over again.
