And sadly, we’re looking at a disqualification draw for the winner of the next race...

It’s gonna be a toss-up between Webber and Perez...
but honestly, I'm betting they just get slapped with a 25-second penalty instead of a grid drop.😍

I totally missed them checking out Perez during the race.🤷

Alonso was complaining about the team favoring Perez, so yeah, they’re definitely looking into it.😉

So, if we’re strictly following that rule, shouldn't every single DRS overtake be double-checked afterward? Just to make sure some other team didn't mess with the tech or cheat the one-second gap.
Or honestly, why not just scrap this whole activation/deactivation headache? It's hit or miss as it is.
The fairest way would be to let every driver use DRS whenever they feel like it, regardless of the gap. It would become a standard part of an F1 car, just like the gas pedal or the brakes... instead of this constant "is it on or off?" nonsense where you have to wait a lap only to lose the slipstream anyway. Look, man, just floor it, brake, hit the gas whenever you want. You want speed? You need grip? Use your head! It would feel much more like actual racing. Right now, it’s just "the system isn't working, so just handle it yourselves and we'll pretend everything is totally fair."

Susan Alvarez94 said:Jerry Rogers6, if I’m supposedly too dense to locate the specific rule that happens to suit your argument, why aren't you simply posting it here yourself? Either the regulation doesn't actually exist, or you are simply incapable of the basic task of pasting a link or quoting the text from the article. If you find yourself struggling with the text, I suppose I could even translate it for you.

6. If yellow flags or lights are displayed in either DRS activation zone, “DRS DISABLED” will be
displayed; from this point, drivers must not use DRS in either activation zone until the message “DRS
ENABLED” appears.

If necessary, I can handle the translation.

I am discussing Alonso’s penalty today, not Vettel’s from last time. In my view, Vettel shouldn't have been penalized back then either.

I already told you what went down during the last race regarding this stuff.
What happened in Austin was just a bad call by the refs. It’d be pretty stupid to penalize anyone for it.

And here's another thing for you:
Stewards said there were mitigating circumstances, stating there had been a one-minute delay between the displaying of yellow flags until the notification that DRS had been de-activated.

Maybe by being notified before the race even started that there was an issue? 😍

You've got it wrong.

stormybadger8 and I were actually debating whether Vettel was allowed to use DRS in Austin under the yellow flag.
He wasn't. Yet he used it.
The reason he—and those other seven drivers—didn't get flagged was due to those three specific "mitigating circumstances" already mentioned.

The stewards pointed out some mitigating factors, basically saying there was a full minute gap between the yellow flags popping up and the official notice that DRS was actually deactivated.

When those yellow flags or lights go up, the "DRS DISABLED" alert hits the screens. Drivers aren't supposed to touch the DRS in either zone until they see the message "DRS
ENABLED"
.

The rulebook explains exactly what went down here.
The "DRS disabled" alert lagged, so everyone kept using it like usual until the message finally showed up. That’s why nobody got slapped with a penalty.

Not quite. If nothing happened in China during that situation, then it’s simply an official's mistake.
Everything else failed, but the officials didn't.
They waved the flags when they should have, where they should have, and for the reasons they should have.

We could talk about the light timing you mentioned earlier.
Do you want to go there?
I don't think it's necessary.

Maybe that’s why this race turned out like this too...
Here we go again, same kid, different day.

I mean, what's next? Are they going to tell us everyone can just use DRS whenever they feel like it?🤣
At the end of the day, this was an FIA screw-up.😁 🤣

Regarding any potential penalty stemming from that incident, I believe the situation was far too ambiguous. In my view, whenever a scenario is this unclear, we should lean toward what Americans would call the presumption of innocence.
I was merely building upon certain arguments suggesting that Alonso deserved a penalty today. My apologies if that came across poorly. However, it seems to me that in cases like this, neither side possesses sufficient evidence to justify a sanction. As for post-race penalties, I find them to be utterly pointless. This is especially true regarding weather-related penalties that seem to have no bearing on the majority of the drivers. While adjusting the grid for the next race might make sense, I personally wouldn't go that far either. If an error actually occurred, then a drive-through, a stop-and-go, or even a black flag should suffice; anything else is unnecessary. What are the rest of your thoughts on the matter?

Shit 🙂
I didn't even record the race 😵
Damn it, I completely lost track of the timers and everything else.🙂

I'll try to find a replay later and see what actually happened.

Penalties are just dumb in general... especially all that nonsense involving gearboxes and other garbage...
They should just let them race like they do in IndyCar or whatever, and only hand out penalties for actual bullshit—like when someone intentionally rams another driver off the track and it's crystal clear what happened.

As for DRS, personally, I think they should allow it anywhere on the track, just limit it by time—kind of like how KERS worked for a set duration per lap...
That way, every car on the track has it, and they can manage their usage to defend against an attack in a DRS zone...
Maybe keep that specific DRS zone where you get a 2 or 3-second boost if you're within a second of the guy in front.

Yes, that would certainly make things much easier to follow and control.
