How to connect a laptop and a tablet wirelessly?

So, I've got my HP notebook 15 and an Asus K00F tablet running Android 4.2.2, and I'm trying to get them talking wirelessly so I can swap some files back and forth. I've already messed around with a few different apps, but nothing seems to stick—I tried TeamViewer and MyFileExplorer, but they just won't work on this tablet.
I'm hitting a total brick wall trying to find a single app that actually functions on this device.
Does anyone out there have a clue how I can get these two connected wirelessly?

We're talking about a close-range connection (maybe 10-15 feet) and just doing it every once in a while.

First off, you gotta establish a physical link—Bluetooth is your best bet here.
Do you know how to set that up?

With Google Drive, you’ve basically got file sharing and access from pretty much anywhere, no matter what device you're using.

Is there even a compelling reason to go wireless?

If not, just use the tablet's charging cable (USB to the laptop, wider end to the tablet). You should see a folder with the tablet's files pop up on the laptop
(specifically, the tablet should show up under the drives in the 'This PC' folder on the laptop).

So, when I try to hook them up with a cable, absolutely nothing happens—my computer doesn't even acknowledge they're there.
And get this: if I turn on Bluetooth on both my tablet and my PC, they can't find each other at all, even though they're picking up every other laptop nearby.

You can set the tablet up to act as a media device or just use it for charging—it's possible the settings are stuck on charging mode.

It’s pretty straightforward to troubleshoot. Just plug your phone into your PC using a USB cable. If the laptop actually recognizes the device and your phone pops up a prompt asking you to allow data transfer, then you know the hardware and the cable are working fine. At that point, it’s just a matter of digging through the settings on your tablet to find what you need.

Can other devices actually see the tablet's Bluetooth signal? There is such a thing as an invisible mode. Typically, there is a six-digit code required to make it "visible"... at least, that was the standard for factory-set devices back in the day.

Give AnyDesk a shot.

The issue is probably that the Android version on your tablet is pretty outdated. Most newer apps are optimized for more recent updates, so things tend to glitch out or just run poorly...

Are you using the same Google account on both your computer and your tablet? If so, honestly, the easiest fix is probably just using Google Drive...

I’ve got the same Google account synced up on my computer and my tablet.
Just to test things out, I uploaded two videos to Google Drive from my PC,
but when I log into Google Drive on my tablet, there’s absolutely nothing there. It just shows an empty window saying "No items."
Having this set up would be the perfect way to swap files, but I’m totally stumped as to why they aren't showing up on the tablet side.

Are you going through the Google Drive app or just using a browser?

I'm just gonna use the browser since it won't let me download the Google Drive app.

Why not just go with the easiest fix? Use an SD card.

Everything is just totally broken, things feel super weird on here. I've tried a few things already, so let me walk you through this mess and show you what's going on:

- So, I signed into Gmail- and sending or receiving mail works perfectly fine, no issues there.

- Then I logged into Google Drive
But instead of my stuff, I get this empty window saying "no items" even though I definitely uploaded some videos from my laptop earlier.
Then this message pops up at the top:

there was a problem communicating with google servers , try again later

- I hopped onto CNN.com and the whole page is just blank, except for the CNN logo at the top and this:

- After that, I tried going to https://send-anywhere.com
and it tells me "SSL connection error and you are offline". Like, seriously?

- I even opened Google Play to grab some apps like Skype, a file manager, or Herewego, etc.
But whatever I type in, I just get no results found for "....."—it's the same thing for every single app I search for.
Plus, an exclamation point pops up at the top, and when I tap it, it says error retrieving information from server. DF-DFERH-01

The biggest bummer is that Google Drive isn't working, because that would be perfect for swapping files with my sister who lives in another state.
I honestly have no clue why everything is acting up like this, especially since I've already done a factory reset three times now.

So, was all of this being done on a tablet?
Something clearly isn't working right with that tablet of yours. Maybe try switching over to cellular data instead of using the Wi-Fi to see if that helps. What kind of tablet are you actually using?

Honestly, most modern Android tablets are pretty much useless as they are, and anything ten years old is straight-up junk. Even if you go through the hassle of flashing a custom ROM to get a newer version of Android, it’ll be so painfully slow that you'll just end up losing your mind. Just toss it in the trash; there's really nothing smart you can do with that crap.

Look, I know this thing is ancient, but I’m totally stumped—why can't it connect to Google Drive? It’s like, the exact same account works perfectly fine when I'm just checking my Gmail, right?
I've even seen older tablets out there where everything runs smooth as silk without any hiccups.

The plan was to hand this over to my sister. She’d mostly just use it to binge movies that I upload to Google Drive.
