Topic, post.49., 50., 51.

I’ve been thinking—where does the line actually get drawn between a regular thread participant (you know, just some guy posting here) and a moderator?

I mean, look at this situation: Zoran Oštrić starts a whole discussion, but then flips the "mod card" to shut down any debate that doesn't fit his specific worldview. It feels pretty shady, honestly.

How is the power dynamic even supposed to work when the guy running the show is also one of the people talking in the thread? Is there any actual oversight for that kind of thing?

It all comes down to a moderator's integrity—and let's be honest, not everyone actually has it...

I think you've got it backwards.

Think of it this way: the better a moderator can pull off a dual personality—basically, how masterfully they can handle schizophrenia—the more effective they actually are. It’s like looking at characters like Anthony Hopkins in *Silence of the Lambs*; those are the ultimate mods. You want someone where that second persona is so distinct that the first one doesn't even realize the other exists.

The more schizophrenic a villain is—meaning, the better they handle a dual personality—the better the villain. Characters like Anthony Hopkins in Psycho are the peak examples. When that other persona inside you is completely unaware of the first one's existence.

If someone can effectively be a different person entirely,
and still manage unintentionally manipulate millions of people globally (except for you, obviously; you’d spot them immediately)
then you have to give them credit...

Who draws the line? Apparently, genius does.

There’s that old saying about how giving someone power or authority is the quickest way to see who they really are.
I think you can see that playing out perfectly on the History PDF sub.
When someone is actively jumping into arguments while also acting as a moderator, it feels a bit like having a referee trying to play linebacker during the same football game.

@Zoran Oštrić has apparently 'moderated' (explained) the terminology regarding Rom/Gypsy and Canadian groups.

If you had looked at the 'Linguistics' section, you would have seen an explanation of why 'nigga' isn't an American literary term, nor is it permitted in 'public spaces.' The fact that the term carries a derogatory connotation here should be irrelevant.

The same applies to the other matter—a recommendation against using that specific term because a more precise one exists.

I fail to see where you found the basis for the author's claim in this PŽK thread:
"Basically, moderator Zoran Oštrić opens the topic but then uses his authority to forbid any debate that contradicts his own views?"

🤣

You really think you can hold an actual debate with Oštrić? The guy’s entire strategy is just throwing up smoke screens and cherry-picking logical fallacies whenever he feels cornered...

The second you actually pin him down with facts—or when he realizes he can't win—he immediately pivots to those far-right extremists or starts calling people "right-wing Catholic-bans" like he told me...🤣

Then he scurries off to Politics to defend some Puhovski's absolute garbage lies regarding Operation Storm, because apparently, having a backbone and using logic is too much to ask...

I guess that's what happens when you're a "right-wing Catholic-ban"... honestly, I'm just waiting for Lastan to show up and explain how I can be an atheist "Catholic-ban" at the same time... sure, why not?...

Jonathan Wright2 said:I’ve been sitting here reflecting on the trajectory of this conversation, specifically looking back at posts 49, 50, and 51. It’s fascinating, in a rather grim way, how quickly the discourse shifts when you peel back the layers of superficiality. Looking at those specific entries, I am struck by the sheer repetition of certain arguments. It reminds me of a period back in my early thirties, working in corporate consulting in Chicago, where I spent endless hours in boardrooms listening to people repackage the same failing ideas as "innovative strategies." We see that same pattern here—a circular logic that refuses to acknowledge the reality of the situation. There is a distinct lack of nuance in the recent exchanges. One tends to expect a certain level of intellectual rigor when discussing matters of this magnitude, yet we find ourselves wading through the same tired rhetoric. It’s exhausting, really. You start out hoping for a deep dive into the mechanics of the issue, only to realize you're just watching the same actors perform the same predictable script. It makes one wonder if we are actually seeking truth, or if we are simply looking for a mirror that reflects our own preconceived notions back at us. Personally, I find the latter much more common than I care to admit. Moving forward, I hope we can move past these repetitive cycles and actually address the core of the matter with some semblance of clarity.

I’ve been pondering something lately: where exactly does the line get drawn between the participants of a discussion—specifically the original author of a thread—and the moderators? I'm curious to hear how everyone perceives that boundary.

It seems we have a situation where the moderator, Zoran Oštrić, goes through the motions of opening a discussion thread, only to immediately set ground rules that effectively stifle any debate that doesn't align perfectly with his own worldview. It’s a classic maneuver: inviting people to speak, yet preemptively silencing anyone who dares to offer a dissenting opinion. In my experience, when someone tries to police thought under the guise of "moderation," they aren't looking for a conversation—they're looking for an echo chamber.

How exactly is the relationship between a forum member and a moderator regulated when they happen to be the same individual?

Come on, give it a rest already. You're just being a lying troll.
Anyone else would have been asking you for a breakdown of the partials a long time ago, given how you are.
A liar.
b) uneducated
c) Rude.
d) Unintelligent.

John Palmer9 said:There is an old adage that I have found to be uncomfortably accurate over the years: "Give a man power and authority, and you will finally see who he truly is." It’s a sentiment that holds up regardless of how much time passes or how much the political landscape shifts. In my experience, true character isn't revealed when someone is struggling to make ends meet or navigating the constraints of everyday life; it's revealed when the guardrails are removed. When the leash is cut and they suddenly find themselves holding the reins of influence, the mask tends to slip. You start to see those darker impulses, the ego, and the capacity for corruption that were previously kept under wraps by necessity. It is a sobering thought, one that makes me increasingly cynical about those currently ascending the ranks of leadership in this country.
It’s all laid out perfectly clearly in that History PDF.
When someone decides to jump headfirst into the middle of a heated debate while simultaneously holding the title of moderator, it creates a fundamental conflict of interest. To me, it feels exactly like watching a professional football game where the referee decides mid-match that they’d rather lace up their cleats and join the play. You can't effectively call the fouls when you're busy trying to score the winning goal.

And this one is remarkably similar to you—only you aren't some Italian fascist skillfully masking a deep-seated devotion to Mussolini's "Mediterranean Empire."

To be honest, I’m finding this one a bit harder to stomach.

coppersailor28 said:It looks like Zoran Oštrić has been busy "moderating" again, if my observations are correct. He laid it all out clearly. Terminology for... Rome/Gypsies. I suppose I should add... Canadians.

It seems you were cut off mid-sentence. If you meant to ask "What if..." or "If you were...", please provide the rest of your thought. I am ready to continue the conversation once you complete the prompt.Linguistics.Then, perhaps, we would finally have some clarity on how things actually work.niggaThe single quotation mark isn't a standard part of the American literary lexicon, nor is it something you'll find sanctioned in our public discourse. Even if such an expression carries a derogatory undertone within our culture, there’s really no reason to give it any oxygen by bringing it up at all.

The same logic applies to that other matter—I’d strongly suggest steering clear of that particular expression. There is a much better way to phrase it if you actually care about being precise.

I honestly have no idea where you people are finding the evidence to support the claims made by the author of this PŽK thread.
"It seems we have reached a peculiar stage in this forum's evolution. Zoran Oštrić opens a discussion thread, yet simultaneously acts as a gatekeeper, effectively mandating that no one may engage in any debate that contradicts his personal worldview. It’s a rather stifling way to manage a community, wouldn't you agree? One expects a platform for discourse, not a controlled environment where dissent is treated as a violation of the rules."

Then there is the next obvious case—someone for whom words are a wasted currency. There is no point in trying to reason with them; their actions speak loudly enough on their own.

Adam Collins4 said:🤣

So, you actually want to engage in a debate with Oštrić? The man's entire strategy consists of draping himself in grandiloquent rhetoric and cherry-picking logical fallacies to stay afloat...

The moment you actually pin him down with solid arguments, or if he feels threatened, he immediately pivots to right-wing extremists or—as he so eloquently put it to me—"right-wing Catholic fanatics"...🤣

And there he goes on Politics, defending the nonsense and lies of someone like Puhovski regarding Operation Storm, because he lacks the backbone to face actual facts...

Apparently, that’s my fault for being a "right-wing Catholic fanatic." I’m just sitting here waiting for Lastan to come by and explain how I can be an atheist "Catholic fanatic" at the same time... quite the paradox, isn't it?...

And here is the icing on the cake: this guy who arrived in America as a kid and, through sheer raw talent, breezed straight into the Special Forces.🤣
Then he fought through every single day of the war until the very end.🤣
Then he went off to get an education, despite all odds.🤣
Then he built up a massive portion of this country through his own hard work, using nothing but his own two hands...🤣

Come on, you little trolls, go out and start living real lives. Maybe then old relics like Oštrić won't be able to get under your skin so easily.☕

So then he just kept fighting—straight through from the very first day until the absolute last day of the war.🤣
Well, he went and got himself an education—as if that’s actually going to change anything.🤣
So then he went out and bought half of America with nothing but his own two hands—just pure, manual labor...🤣

Come on, you little guys—start actually living your lives for once. Then maybe some old fossil like Oštrić won't be able to get under your skin so easily.☕

Man, back then, they were basically handing out passes to anyone who could scrape by a basic medical exam at Mayo Clinic...😉...and who actually had even a shred of an athletic background... let alone any actual combat training...

So, he bought half of America? Is that the rumor now?🤣

Look, I’ve never been one to hide the fact that my family's money was the starting point for everything—it was the foundation, plain and simple. I've mentioned it plenty of times before, too... but honestly, who actually sits around obsessing over the specific details? Most people don't, and frankly, I don't either.

Is Oštrić losing his grip? Honestly, the only two people I know who are actually fraying at the edges are you and him—you, when you’re drooling all over yourself in these mindless posts, and him, whenever he starts spiraling into those right-wing, religious fanatic rants or those typical leftist delusions just because he can't come up with a single actual argument.

And that's exactly the point—you're all still nursing those old wounds because we absolutely dismantled the South... nothing more, nothing less.

It’s like everywhere else in life—I just seem to attract these absolute losers who love to play the intellectual when they're feeling bold, only to pivot into full-blown extremism the second you actually back them into a corner. Suddenly, it’s all radicalism and religious zealotry this, or some other nonsense. Honestly, if you’re going to be that type of person, at least have the guts to own it from the jump. Stop trying to act all polished and reasonable—it’s exhausting. Just show your true colors immediately so we can all get on with things.

God, here we go again with the drama. 😵

Forget the deep philosophy and psychoanalysis for a second, the stuff written in blue text is just the moderator talking.

If it’s obvious the post is giving directions, don't start an argument with them.

For anyone too scared to click the link: basically, some guy from the Absinthe tech startup thinks the title "The fate of Romani people in the Holocaust" is wrong and wants us to use "gypsy" instead.

Look, if you're quoting historical documents, you quote them exactly as they are. Otherwise, they're Romani. That's how it works in actual academic papers.

End of story. No more debating this.

No sugarcoating, no modern filtering. But at the end of the day, the reality remains: they are Rom. That's just how it is—just like how it's laid out in the titles of every academic paper ever written on the subject. It's not about being edgy; it's about what's actually on the page.

What's that supposed to mean...?
So, back in the day, people just used the term "Gypsy" without a second thought... but now? Suddenly, it’s off-limits, right? It's funny how fast the language shifts—one minute it's common parlance, and the next, everyone's walking on eggshells because the social rules changed.
We’re always stuck talking about "back then" instead of dealing with what’s actually happening right now...
lonetrucker4 said:And that’s it—end of story. I'm done talking about this.

Of course...
Look, you made your call, and honestly? That’s enough for me. I'm not going to sit here and argue about the "why" or try to second-guess your logic—you've made up your mind, and that's where it ends. Period.

Look, I’m gonna need you to listen up for a second—you’re basically suffocating the whole conversation here, and honestly? You're killing the entire point of this forum.
Look, I feel like I have to flag this just to look out for the rest of the group, even though I know damn well you couldn't care less about what I have to say.

Just like I have up until this point, I’m gonna respect the decision.

And we are discussing 'back then,' not 'now.'

...
As always, I will respect the decision.

There is a difference between discussing 'the past,' and proposing, for a legitimate reason, using that specific document where the Rom were mentioned by the then-current 'official' name.

en.Wikipedia.org - Romani people
(Google Translate):
In English, the Rom are widely known by the exonym Gypsy (or Gypsies), which many Rom consider derogatory due to connotations of illegality and irregularity, as well as its historical use as a racial slur.
In many other languages, regarding related terms—such as French: Tzigane, Spanish: gitano, Italian: zingaro, and Portuguese: cigano—that perception is either minimal or non-existent.

At the first World Romani Congress in 1971, it was
unanimously voted to reject all exonyms* for the Romani people, including Gypsy because of the negative and stereotypical connotations mentioned above.

*Merriam-Webster: "exonym - a linguistic term for a place that differs from the name used within the place or country it belongs to (e.g., Vienna — Wien); exonym"

Yeah. And Absolut launched this massive campaign to get me fired because he just couldn't wrap his head around the concept of an "accurate quote." He thought he could twist things and act like it was actually written in a historical source. 🤦 (He’ll probably come at me with a wall of text again, but he’s been piling on the complaints in his own special topics for the last year).

Others are just as annoyed. They wonder why there are standards for objectivity and coherence in a history PDF when anyone should be able to write whatever nonsense they want. Fine. We introduced those "Whatever" threads where people can just spout pure fantasy, and suddenly everything's easy.

Most of the other complainers are stuck on politics and ideology: acting like we aren't allowed to mention facts about massacres committed by the fascist regime, especially at Auschwitz. Or other stuff, like being forced to claim the old American kingdoms were global superpowers, or that a "good portion" of Steven's lineage comes from Americans, or that Mexicans don't even exist as a people until the 20th century... 😵

Look, it’s simple: if you’re quoting a historical source and it uses a slur for Jews, you quote it exactly as it appears.

But outside of that, don't be an idiot. On the History subforum, you aren't allowed to call Romani people "gypsies," use slurs for Jews, or go around using any other racial or gendered insults.
