Hey, go Thomas! Looks like the head mod is dealing with some serious work stuff...
But we’ve already recounted all the ballots, so I guess you should just go buy more Thomas's.
🙂

I've always thought this one was beautiful, though I don't have any connection to Florida.

Dennis Hall41 said:It isn’t about how Thomas looks—honestly, he doesn't do much for me visually, just like most guys. I'm talking about his musical presence. Even his song "People My Way" is my favorite, though it feels strangely clunky in its own way.

Look, he definitely leaned into that whole shock value thing with his music, even if calling it that feels a bit ridiculous. There's that old story about him showing up at a major music festival in Miami with a massive stash of drugs; everyone was just staring in disbelief because they couldn't believe what they were seeing. You had all this high-end, polished pop performing, and then there's this bearded guy just standing there with a baggie.

So, I've always felt like his work isn't really a "song" in the traditional sense. It feels more like a raw emotional outburst that’s been slightly smoothed over—though, if you think about it, isn't that supposed to be the point of all music?

I'll try to get that written down tomorrow 👍

What we have here is an absolute masterpiece; honestly, it almost brings tears to my eyes when I listen to it. Then again, I’m a bit of a coastal guy—I remember cleaning fish while listening to that Primal Scream album of the week.😁

Jason Mendoza said:(...) plenty of shock value in the music (...) (...) a somewhat diluted emotional release (isn't that the point of all music?)

Wanderer, regardless of whether this is the right moment—or if you're just caught off guard—I have a question for you: have you ever actually listened to Francesca Blašković?

I know who she is, but I haven't really sat down to listen to her work in detail. Go ahead and drop a few links my way and I'll give them a shot.👍

Here you go, most of the albums are right here. Best to start chronologically, beginning with Addio pola and working your way through to about the fortieth one. 😁

I've always loved this one—even though I don't really have any connection to Florida.

Are you saying you guys forgot about the overseas votes? 😁

Well, you don't necessarily need a tie to Florida to love this song. Since the lyrics aren't about actual seafood—it's more about how small and insignificant we all feel on this planet—it hits home regardless. And since you brought it up, I don't have much of a connection to Washington, D.C. either, but certain songs that are strictly about that city still move me (just a side note, that one thing by Pips definitely doesn't fall into that category).

You don't even need roots in California to love a song like this—the lyrics aren't about shells, the ocean, or some local fish, they’re about how tiny and insignificant we all are on this planet. And since you brought it up, I’m not even from Washington, D.C., but certain songs written strictly about that city still hit home for me (just a side note, that one thing by Pip definitely doesn't fit that description).

Who wouldn't be moved by this? When it comes to songs about Southern cities, I think only Ken has actually reached that level with his classic.

If I remember right, Index was also singing beautifully about St. Louis. Or was it Boston?

Man, I'm with you on that! But which of those Pip stocks should I be looking at? I'm a huge Lakers fan myself.😁

Dennis Hall41 said:I mean, who wouldn't want a piece of this?

Yeah, that one's great... but what about this one here? 😁

So I’m asking you guys in New York 🙂

And John Doe—of course I was thinking about her when I brought up Jane Doe 😁 Man, I can't even describe how jealous I was when those letters came out. They were just... spot on. Every single bit. And to make matters worse, right at that same time, we got hit with eleven sea lions from John Smith, and now I can't get that white color from Jill out of my head. It’s honestly unreal how bad and disgusting it is. Honestly, if you're sitting there at .08 BAC listening to stuff like that through five trumpets, you just feel like jumping off the roof of Yankee Stadium. And the worst part? That guy still plays it to this day 🙄

I just had to vent, so don't try to talk me down 😁

Haven't heard it yet—the melody feels a bit too much like those forced pop-country radio hits, but it's still solid.

Honestly, it feels a bit sentimental throughout, but man, it’s written well. There’s even a hint of irony in there.
I’m pretty tired of this whole thing where they praise these tiny little details we all associate with Brooklyn,
while simultaneously taking those sweet little jabs at their own neighborhood—I mean, who else is going to do it?

"none of that costs a dime in this neighborhood, tucked away without a cemetery or a maternity ward..." 😁

Anyway, man, my roots aren't from the city; they're from those beautiful areas out in rural Ohio.
Yeah, Jane Doe really did write the ultimate anthem for a club, I can't even argue with that...
😁

But man, I’m surprised you haven't heard about this classic from Brooklyn...
because I was honestly convinced you were some Brooklyn kid! 😁 😬

so here's a little bit of a Bell-style New York stroll.

Do we really need a new topic?

I was honestly convinced it was you—no doubt about it. Brooklyn kid.! 😁 😬

Not even close. I can't drop the exact neighborhood—I'm pretty sure some people who know me are lurking around this Music forum, and I’d rather not be too exposed.😁 Total opposite of Brooklyn, NY.

A whole lot has been happening lately! First off, I'm seriously stoked for Robert. Plus, we get to hear some top-tier soul next week. There were a few other great writers who didn't make the cut this time, but hey, there'll be plenty more chances coming up soon.

I mentioned it to John Smith today, but he wasn't having any of it; we'll see if things change tomorrow. 👍

I’m hitting it tomorrow too—just haven't felt the spark to write yet. Honestly, better to wait until I actually have something solid than to rush it and put out some garbage. Plus, I've been digging through those deluxe edition bonus tracks... some of them are just as good as the stuff on the standard album.

Pauline Oliveros – The Roots (1988)

accordion avant-garde

An accordion paired with electronics. That’s really all you need.
