Hey everyone, I picked up a Corsair RM650 at the General Motors store in Amazon today (just so it's clear, this wasn't an online order). Once I got home, I noticed the warranty slip attached to the box says "INSTALLATION BY AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY." So, what does that actually mean? I guess I'm wondering if I'll lose my warranty if I just install it myself.

Also, quick question—do I have the right to return this within a certain timeframe? I haven't even unboxed it yet; everything is still in perfect shop condition (assuming that authorized installer rule is legit).

Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of anyone getting busted or even checked for doing that. Might as well just install it.

Warranties apply to individual components regardless of who puts them together. Those sticker schemes you see on the cases are just internal shop policies. It’s hard to say exactly how they work, though—some retailers used to offer their own comprehensive warranty on the entire build (like Best Buy), while others just provided free diagnostics as long as the seal remained unbroken, meaning the sticker wasn't actually tied to the warranty itself.

I have an identical situation with a computer from Best Buy at my office. It has a label that says: VOID IF SEAL IS BROKEN.
I picked out all the parts myself and just paid them to handle the assembly. Now, I'm calling them because I want to swap in a spare graphics card we have lying around the office, and I need to know if opening the case will void everything. They explained that the hardware warranty stays perfectly intact; the sticker is really just for free diagnostic services for two years, provided the seal hasn't been tamaged. The component warranties themselves aren't affected by that sticker at all.

That’s exactly it. It would be much more professional if they clearly stated that somewhere or just gave customers a proper explanation upfront.
