It’s basically about two dancers teaming up to get revenge on some Wall Street guys who happen to be their clients. We've got Jennifer Lopez and Lizzo and Card leading the pack, along with Constance Wu, Liti Reinhart, Keisha Terrence Palmer, Julia Stiles, and Oscar Mercedes Ruehl. The whole story actually pulls from a New York Magazine article from back in 2016.

Honestly, whenever I see a movie starring her, my immediate gut reaction is just... yeah, it's going to be garbage

This looks like one of those movies that relies way too heavily on a forced all-female cast

The premiere just went down at the Sundance Film Festival last night.

The Guardian:
Lopez slinks through Hustlers with a deceptive ease, as in control of the film as her character is of her situation. It’s the sort of role that only a true movie star could pull off, so much of it reliant on a rare, intoxicating magnetism. It’s all too easy to view her acting career as starting and ending with Out of Sight and she has coasted in some frustratingly mediocre films since, but she’s always remained a captivating screen presence. She’s so perfectly calibrated as Ramona that it feels like she’s been unintentionally building toward it for years. Awards attention would be deserved but a far greater result would be a more expansive set of roles in her future.
She’s the shining neon star of Hustlers, a shrewd, deliciously entertaining pop culture caper that kicks off the new season with a splash.

Other critics are overlooking a potential early Oscar nomination for Lopez.

Looks like nobody saw this one coming. A total dark horse for this fall and the upcoming awards circuit.

This could be J. Lo's first Oscar nod. She did get a Golden Globes nomination back in '97 for Selena, but I think critics weren't huge fans of how bold she was being with her comments after that one, lol.

While I can see her grabbing a nomination here, I feel like her upcoming role in The Godmother might be a stronger contender for an Oscar. Still, this is a massive first step in winning over the critics who wrote her off after Selena because she spent so much time in rom-coms and mediocre thrillers (aside from Out of Sight with George Clooney).

#Hustlers just crushed it at the box office, pulling in a massive $13 million on Friday alone. That’s officially the biggest single-day haul in STX Entertainment‘s history. Pretty wild, right?

The budget was only $20 million, so honestly, you could call this movie a win already.

I won't even get into how much sense it makes for Hollywood to be making movies that take aim at Wall Street... 🙂

Constance Wu was honestly tragic in this one. She had zero percent charisma—not even a hint of the magnetic energy needed to pull anyone in. I caught her in Crazy Rich Asians once, and she was totally underwhelming then, too. I really hope she doesn't try to make a career out of this, because that was just such a massive fail.

Now, Jennifer Lopez didn't do a bad job acting, but the movie itself is mediocre at best, so you can't really blame her.

I'm giving it a 4/10. It was pretty forced.

The plot is just terrible. The only decent part is the interview format. Constance Wu is also boring. I haven’t seen her in anything before, but the whole time I was wondering why she was even cast as the lead.

Jennifer Lopez killed it, and I honestly think she’ll land an Oscar

It seems to make little sense to produce these types of "women-led" films with only half an effort. It results in chaos. Perhaps Molly's Game might have worked... but the rest. 👎👎

The movie was alright—decent premise, but it definitely could have been handled better.

I don't see why anyone would think Jennifer Lopez deserves an Oscar for this.

I watched it too, and honestly, it wasn't anything special. Given all the hype and those reviews, I was expecting at least an average movie, but this was just okay.
