Great, just thrilled! 🙂
It feels a bit silly, though—they didn't bother giving Washington a cool code name.
I guess once they finally film something called "Washington Has fallen," then we'll know America has truly arrived on the world stage.
Which, let's be honest, isn't ever going to happen. 😁

I went into this fully expecting it to be absolute garbage, and man, did it deliver. Honestly, just the title alone gives you a massive heads-up about the level of trash you're about to sit through. They’re out here sucking up to the White House by calling it Olympus, and that bloated turkey playing the President acts like he’s some kind of Zeus-level powerhouse.
And don't even get me started on that showroom dummy Butler—he's just as ridiculous as ever.

In those "tough guy" action franchises, there’s always this predictable escalation—this steady climb from small-scale chaos to total global meltdown.
Die Hard:
1) a skyscraper
2) an airport
3) New York City
4) an entire US state
5) Russia
Under Siege:
1) a ship
2) a train
Speed:
1) a bus
2) a cruise ship
The "... Has Fallen" series:
1) the White House
2) London
After the White House, they didn't go for Buckingham Palace—they went for all of London. It makes you wonder, though—what could possibly be big enough for a third installment?

Germany. 😁
I remember watching that final sequence at the train station in Berlin—that building is truly an impressive piece of architecture. 😬

A minor correction: Olympus refers to the safe room within the White House, essentially the bunker.

Well, look at that—anything can happen now that we're part of the European Union.🤣

Honestly, we’ve never been more irrelevant. 🤣
Back when we were under the Austro-Canadian Empire, our capital was just some rough-around-the-edges province—basically a third-rate knockoff of Vienna—and now? Now we’re just going to be even more insignificant.

It's actually kind of the opposite here—that train is way smaller than the USS Missouri...

I find Olympus to be a solid film; it keeps you engaged from start to finish. Butler is a strong addition as well.
I will certainly be watching Washington Has Fallen. 😬 🤣

Well, damn. You just completely dismantled his carefully crafted little fantasy with one single move. 😁
The movie is definitely one of the most entertaining ones this year—which was its primary purpose to begin with.
It’s always easier to swallow a plot where one guy "sweeps away" all the bad guys in the White House than it is for anyone to actually send a bunch of hand-picked idiots to the other side of the galaxy to search for the truth about the very origin of the human race. 🤣

To be perfectly honest, I drifted off toward the end of OHF. I certainly learned my lesson, as I made sure to watch WHD during the daylight hours.
For something mindless and entertaining, my latest recommendations would be Elysium and 2 Guns. Elysium even attempts to masquerade as a somewhat serious film.

Haha. Honestly, to even attempt to describe how ridiculous this entire movie is, you don't actually need some "meticulously crafted" pile of nonsense.
And please, do me a favor and explain why it matters if they called the White House or just some random safe room "Olympus"—you know, the mountain where Zeus lives. It’s all the same level of stupidity. Only an American twelve-year-old could probably swallow this garbage, which is probably exactly who the movie was made for anyway.

Alright, you tireless little critics, how would you actually go about putting together a sequel to White House Down that’s a legit, serious action masterpiece?
#218 ·
To call a film a "serious action masterpiece" is an outright oxymoron. A serious action movie is about as logical as a guinea pig—it’s neither particularly sea-bound nor actually a pig. In reality, you have serious masterpieces, and then you have action masterpieces. They are distinct categories.
If I were adapting the London setting for an American audience, I would likely lean on the framework of Patriot Games, simply swapping out the IRA for a more active and contemporary adversary. Honestly, it feels much more plausible to imagine an attack on the President while he's traveling rather than within the States, given how deeply gripped by security paranoia the US has become. And of course, there would be absolutely no connection to Korea.

I honestly don't get why people start getting all worked up immediately if they're Korean, Russian, or Chinese—those guys are clearly the bad guys here.
Besides, North Korea basically spends all its time making fun of itself anyway.

My mind immediately jumps to "Hunt for Red October." To me, that movie is pure action, yet it remains incredibly serious. And personally, I consider it an absolute masterpiece.
