A new film about one of America's most infamous gangsters—Al Capone. I assume everyone knows why he made a name for himself, but that won't be the central focus here. As noted above (via IMDb), the story covers the final chapter of Capone's life. However, I'm a bit confused by the claim after 10 years in prison since he wasn't actually behind bars for a decade. Still, we'll see.

Who is playing him? I haven't attached a photo because production hasn't even started yet; slapping a random headshot on here would just look silly. The lead role goes to Tom Hardy.

The project is currently in pre-production. It's being directed and written by Josh Trank, whose previous work I haven't seen.

When can we expect it? Maybe 2018.

Filming is officially underway. Tom Hardy is stepping into the role of Al Capone (as I mentioned in my opening post). They had plenty of time over the last twelve months to pivot to someone else, but I’m glad they stuck with him.

I don't know, man... I really want this to be good, but given who's in the director's chair, I can't help but feel a massive wave of skepticism hitting me. On the bright side, Hardy is a killer choice for Al Capone. We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out...

I’m losing my grip on any kind of optimism regarding this movie. Honestly, I have a gut feeling it won't have much of a connection to the actual Al Capone at all. It's such a massive waste because Hardy is an absolute slam dunk for this role. This whole thing feels like it could be a total flop... just like Venom was.

Tom Hardy is a brilliant actor, but he doesn't look a thing like Al Capone. What I actually appreciate is how he nailed the accent.

This could easily turn into a parade of cheap imitations and overacting.

The issue with this transformation is that I can still totally see Hardy... Not that I have any doubts about his acting chops, mind you! But honestly, projects like this usually end up being either pretty solid or just a step below that level.

Yeah, honestly... I ended up switching it off after about twenty minutes. After all these years, my sixth sense was just screaming at me that this movie was total garbage and that nothing smart or meaningful was going to happen once those first few minutes passed. I truly feel for Thomas, though... an actor of his caliber really deserves a much more substantial role than this, but hey, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. On the flip side, what was the point of the film even intended to be? I mean, does anyone actually want to sit through a story about some half-dead gangster wandering around acting demented or just being verbally abusive? Haven't they learned by now that this kind of thing won't fly, especially not compared to the standard set by The Irishmen?
