So, I'm looking to pick up an SSD specifically to load up with my game library. I’m trying to keep the budget under $333 if possible.

I definitely want to buy it from Best Buy! Thanks 😁

I’m honestly not sure how that works out for you 😁 unless you’re mostly playing lighter titles—because let’s be real, modern AAA games will absolutely devour 250GB before you even know it. I mean, Quantum Break alone ate up about 170GB on my end... but regarding your setup...

But wait, won't they just keep eating away at it forever? haha 😁

Honestly, you’re just throwing money away if all it does is make things load a little faster—you aren't really gaining any actual performance from it. If I were you, I'd put that cash toward a better graphics card, a beefier processor, or maybe a faster SSD instead... you know? Anyway, what kind of build are you running right now?

MSI Gaming GTX 1060

Intel Core i7-4770K
8GB DDR3 RAM (2x 4GB) 1866 Mhz
Gigabyte-970A-DS3P AM3+
Power Supply: XFX TS Series 550W 80+
Cooler: CPU cooler LC-CC-120

I'm planning on making the jump to a new Intel setup toward the end of this year or maybe early next. I have a few other things on my plate right now that need my attention first, so I'm focusing on those priorities for the moment. Once things settle down, I'm looking at a budget of roughly $1,100. That should cover a new processor, a motherboard, and whatever else I might need to swap out if the new parts aren't compatible with what I'm currently running.

Intel won't be the only game in town by then, so luckily 😛

I'd probably go with a 480GB or 512GB drive instead, maybe something like

I mean, if 😁 we see how things look about a month before I actually pull the trigger on the purchase, we can jump back in here and figure out the best setup 😉
But at this point, I definitely need to swap out the processor. Once I get that sorted, we'll have to see what else needs an upgrade to make sure everything runs smoothly together 🙂

As for an SSD, I might just hold off until I'm ready to grab the CPU, so I can just pick up the whole bundle at once.

Is that CPU gonna bottleneck you during gaming?

Oh, for sure. My Intel Core i5-4670 is definitely bottlenecking me in GTA V—mostly because I've paired it with a much beefier graphics card, an NVIDIA GTX 1070.

But honestly, an NVIDIA GTX 1070 can push well over 60fps at 1080p.

If I remember correctly from YouTube, an AMD FX-8300 overclocked to around 4 GHz doesn't see any massive FPS drops below 60.

It’s not happening in every single title, but you can definitely notice those FPS drops in some of the newer releases. You really start to feel that bottlenecking kick in 😁

For that kind of money, you’re basically looking at a 480-525GB SSD. It's actually pretty interesting how much more sense those make, especially since you barely notice a price hike compared to the smaller drives.
